Why Does It Always Feel Like Food Is Stuck In My Throat

Why do I always feel like something is stuck in my throat?

Please ,please dont expect people on Quora, especially non medical ones to be able to tell you what’s going on. Ethical and safe doctors do not diagnose from a distance (except for properly organised telemedicine ). You cannot diagnose without a proper history and physical examination. Without a diagnosis no one can offer treatment.I can think of many things that could cause this, some are not serious-just a nuisance and easily managed- and some could be extremely serious-like neurological problems. If this is bothering you then you should see your family doctor and possibly be referred to an ENT surgeon who has the ability to examine you properly.Im not being protective for doctors. I’m trying to get the message across that Quora is not the place for diagnostic questions about personal medical problems. It’s dangerous.

There has been a small piece of food stuck in my throat for a few days now. How do I get it away/out?

Hey Brooklyn. An ENT can address your issue but it may take time to get an appointment so the best thing to do is to go to the ER. They can confirm if you have food stuck in your esophagus or if you have irritation in your throat that is giving the sensation of food being stuck in it. They may give you a drug called Glucagon. It relaxes the esophagus and hopefully will allow the food to move down into the stomach. If that does not work, you may be sedated and a small tube will be passed into the esophagus to retrieve the food. It is important to address this issue as soon as possible, since it has been there for a few days already. Infection is a big risk at this point. Good luck to you.

My throat always feels as though there is something stuck in it,I become hoarse, cough in sleep, choke on food..

I have had a problem with a sore and irritated throat for some time now, a constant tickling, and trying to clear my throat to no avail. I choke on soft foods, hsrd , and liquids when in a certain position, like it continuously goes down the wrong pipe, and will cough for quite some time. My voice is becoming hoarse, some difficulty swallowing , and continually cough when sleeping, or under sedation. The coughing will actually keep me up all night. I feel like a cat with a fur ball in my throat. Have not yet been to ENT specialist, plan on going but assume they will say nothing is wrong. I am a mouth breather, still have my tonsils, and I have to sleep with breathe right strips. Yes I am a smoker, and know that I have to quit. Taking a shower, or in high humidity causes chest pain and difficulty breathing. Cold weather causes me to start a raspy cough when I breathe in cold air, please any advice , opinions on this matter would help me see a doctor,or whether it is necessary. Thank you

Food Stuck In Throat Every Time I Eat?

I am 14 years old, for a while now, everytime I eat something, it feels like I have something stuck in my throat. No matter how much I swallow or drink something it doesn't go away. I chew my food very well and all, so I don't know what's going on. Also, when I'm eating, I periodically need to drink something to wash the food down. I'm not sure if this helps, but when I was younger, I would always get a heartburn, but not anymore. I told my parents yesterday, and I'm going to the doctor's office in 1 hour. I was just wondering if any knew what it could be. Thank you.

What doctor should see if I feel I have something stuck in my throat or esophagus? ENT?

That is a very good question,The ENT doctor will evaluate your ears, nose and throat, where a GI specialist can evaluate the esophagus into the stomach and beyond using endoscopy and a camera to visualize problems, and the little scope end has tools on it if something needs done there. ENT doctors also use scopes, usually up your nose and into the back of your throat to your vocal cords. Depending on your illness or symptom history, when it occurs, what you are doing at the time, and if you can point to the offending area, will decide who it would be est to see. Many times your PCP will refer you to the specialist that they think may show something abnormal. They would put you asleep for the endoscopy in the GI lab with an anesthetist giving you a rapid on and off anesthesia that goes into an IV. You should not remember anything of the test or procedure. For the ENT doctor, they just squirt a numbing spray in, and down your nose and put a small scope down and it is over in less than 20 minutes. The endoscopy takes a little over 1–11/2 hours and then you are recovered from anesthesia. You need to bring someone with you to drive you home, but the tests are not horrible. The doctor may give you results there, or give them to your PCPs office. Since I do not know which body system is involved, many more questions can be asked to pin the diagnosis down for a better result.
