Why Does It Sound Like The Water Turns On By Itself It Only Last For One Or Two Seconds.

Why does my toilet randomly run for 3 seconds and stop every 15-30 minutes"?

We replaced our old blue toilet (whatever year that was a color choice) with a brand new one last spring. Within the last 6 months or so it will randomly run for a few seconds and stop on and off all day and all night. Why would it be doing this? It is an Eljer from Menards, one of thr energy effient kind. Sine replacing the old blue toilet our water bill has dropped at least $30. But it still does not explain the random running. Suggestions?

Sump Pump turns on and off every 20 seconds... why? What can I do about it?

I agree with others here - I think your check value is not functioning properly.

When the pump and value are working properly, water will fill in the basin until a certain level. The pump gets a signal that the water has reached that level and "kicks-on" to pump all that water out. When it does this, it pushes out quite a bit of water. The check value allows the water to flow out and prevents water from the pipe from flowing back in.

If the check value malfunctions, much of the water you are pushing out may be falling back into the basin, thus making the pump work harder and more oftern.

Two other things to consider --

1. Is the pumped water being pushed far enough away so that it does not seap or drain back into the basin? Many times homeowners will think they are doing a good thing by cutting down the drain pipe or putting the drain pipe underground. The problem with this is that you could be pumping the water right back to the drain area and just doing a big re-cycling back and forth and wasting your pump.

2. Second thing to consider -- If the check value is bad - you do not need to get a new pump - just the value and they are replaceable. Don't let a plumber screw you and charge hundreds of dollars for just a check value. The pumps are not that expensive either if you need a new one.

Best of luck.

Why does my air conditioner turns off after about 15 minutes?

This issue is an issue that can be resolved by a authorized repair technician only. Here is a possible list of issuesThe compressor is leaking oil. Thus it is overheating and shutting down within 15 minutes, The oil in the compressor cools the compressorThere is grime or dirt build up in the outside condenser unit, This is preventing the heat teansfer from happening from inner unit to outer unit, causing tyhe compressor to overheat and shutdownThere may be many other points of failure, but normally (at least in India) are not solvable by self help, because the ACs are not designed for customer repair. So call the Authorized service center and get your AC unit looked at

Why does my ear get muffled with a high pitched sound for a few seconds?

Tinnitus is the perception of noise or ringing in the ears. A common problem, tinnitus affects about 1 in 7 people. Tinnitus isn't a condition itself — it's a symptom of an underlying condition, such as age-related hearing loss, ear injury, circulatory system disorder, just to mention a few.Although bothersome, tinnitus usually isn't usually a sign of something serious. Although it can worsen with age, for many people, tinnitus can improve with the proper treatment. The kicker here is that tinnitus is felt and manifests differently for everyone. Since it’s unique to each person, that means what causes it, interferes with it, or changes it is special to you as well.Reach out to the American Tinnitus Association and see what they say!

Ringing in left ear (sounds like a tv is turned on)?

i am 21 and for many months now (about 8) i have had this ringing in my left ear. i get two very distinct and different ringings in it. one is very loud and only lasts a few seconds and goes away. the other is constant and sounds like that noise a tv makes when it is turned on. i have psoriasis in my ears and use a q-tip and peroxide to clean them. i've been doing this for many years (about 10). several months ago, my ear did swell so bad it almost closed completely. i went to the doctor and got ear drops and antibiotics. after it healed is when i really noticed it. also, sometimes, my left ear feels muffled. it's hard to tell if my right ear is doing it as well however. i know it doesn't feel muffled, but the other is hard to tell because all me attention is being put on my left. i don't believe my right is doing it though. i am never around loud noises or anything either.

Is it dangerous if one of my stove burners won't light, but I smell gas when I try?

As long as the control knob is turned off, there is no danger. However, as long as you smell gas, there's a problem, especially if you have an older standing pilot unit (which I don't think you have, since you said it "clicks"). Be very careful and allow the gas to dissipate (open a window or door) after you turn the burner off. If you have left the control knob on for more than a minute, turn the gas off at the stove (and outside too, if you can), do not turn any lights on or off as you exit and get outside of the house before you call the fire department. A  minute of gas is a lot. A few seconds won't hurt.If there is water in a burner port (which I'm sure is gone by the time I write this answer), or if the ignitor electrode is wet, the burner won't light. You can clear out the water and dry off the ignitor with a can of compressed keyboard cleaner. After spraying, wait a few moments for the propellant in the compressed air to evaporate off, and give your burner a try again. If you continue to have a problem, the burner port(s) nearest the ignitor may be clogged, and a toothpick will usually work to clean it out (try not to break off the toothpick in the holes). If it still doesn't light, it's possible that you need to re-position the ignitor to be in better spot. This is more likely on propane than natural gas, and there is a way to do it, but I'll leave that for another day.

Motion sensor light on garage won't turn off?

Sometimes those things have to be cycled in order to restore them to the motion sensor operation. A lot of them are designed to come on and stay on if they have been power-cycled for a certain amount of time (if you turn them off and back on within a couple of seconds, they go to an always-on state). Cut the power to the light for about 10 seconds and turn it back on. That might bring it back to motion-sensor operation.

Most motion sensor lights also have a sensitivity adjustment. There's usually a slide or knob adjustment that makes it more or less sensitive to movement. If the sensitivity is turned all the way up, that might prevent the light from shutting off.

Black water comes from my tub faucet?

Inky black water comes from my bath tub faucet. It has been ongoing for about two years. We have lived in this house for ten years. The black water is coming from my master b.r. bathtub faucet. I happen to have a background in both plumbing and water treatment as a profession. I managed to capture some of this black water. It has no odor. Some of it appeared in small chunks which feel rather greasy but they do not stain the fingers when rubbed. Much of it was in a 'dissolved' state well distributed in the water. It only discharges occasionally, about once a month or so. And it appears only when the hot water arrives and heats up the pipe. It never comes from the shower head. It does not appear in other faucets of the house, only the master bath tub. It discharges only for a few seconds when it appears. The discharge is not uniform. Sometimes only a sort of gray discoloration appears, other times, the water is pure black and completely opaque. Sometimes the discharge is a single spurt, other times it is in several spurts, coming a half second or even two seconds apart. It is probably not coming from the hot water tank as a "bottom sludge" since none of the other faucets in the house have demonstrated it. What ever it is, it is specific only to the one faucet. I have not been able to interest my city water treatment plant in helping me find out the specific source of this water contamination since it is obviously happening on my side of the meter.
What I suspect it is: I believe this is a mold growing inside the faucet. It most closely resembles a sooty mildew, although I have never detected a mildew or “dirty” odor from it. I believe what ever spoor it is, grows until it is affected by the stream of water and breaks off when the water turns hot. I have never heard of anything like this. I am quite familiar with iron eating bacteria and have smelled it in several different forms. My house has no iron pipes, it is plumed all copper. The house is about 30 years old.
Actions being taken: I am now video taping the faucet every time I turn it on trying to capture the discharge when it happens. I am also collecting via a large bowl the initial discharge so that I can get another sample of it. I will try to grow it experimentally for samples to take over to the University for testing so I can be sure it is not harmful and can learn how to get rid of it.
