Why Does My Brain Feels So Lazy Sometimes

I am concerned because sometimes it feels like my brain just completely refuses to focus on the task at hand. I am aware of the repercussions and yet, I can't get myself to work. I feel sleepy more often. I thought I was just being lazy. Strangely, I do fall asleep. Am I depressed? Do I have some sort of anxiety disorder?

Consider your day to day life. Is this a very normal thing? Maybe It's only once in a while?FOR ME, this exact issue comes in waves. I have a great couple of weeks, then for a few days, I will sink into a depression. It's absolutely inconvenient and seems out of my control. Naturally, you must take care of your body and balance your nutrition. On top of that, it is imperative to track your feelings and reactions. If you do indeed have anxiety and depression, you will recognize your own patterns! A therapist helped me, but seriously if I had just paid attention to my moods and triggers, I wouldn't have needed a doctor. Understand yourself. Your thoughts control you and you control your thoughts!

What is the cause of all laziness? Why does the mind feel lazy for doing good things?

The most difficult things in this world to define are ‘good’ and ‘evil’.There are as many definitions as there are people.I have yet to come across a single sound definition of good and evil in any dictionary. However, if I have to attempt to define good and evil in my own way, I shall define them as following:-Evil is something that produces instant resultsGood is something that produces results slowlyLet me now explain my definitionsIt takes years to become a moral person, it takes only a moment to become immoralIt takes years to become a man or woman, it takes only a second to kill a man or womanIt takes years to be faithful to a person, it takes a single act to become unfaithfulIt takes years of experience to become wise, you can spoil all wisdom by a single foolish actIt takes years of workout and diet control to become healthy, it takes a single mistake lose good healthEvil things are by nature very tempting and attractive and provide instant pleasures and gratification.Good things are dull and boring as they take years to bear fruitsMost people don’t have patience to wait so long as they are addicted to instant pleasures and instant results.Hence, most people often can’t motivate themselves to do good things. They keep postponing the good things in life for the next day and so on.Only a wise person knows the importance of sowing the seeds of goodness, even if he would not be able to enjoy its fruits. The French Army General ‘Marshal Lyautey’ was visiting a forest that had been devastated by fire.He said, ‘We must replant cedars.’His friend said, ‘You can’t mean that. They take two thousand years to grow to their full height!’‘Two thousand years?’ said the surprised Lyautey. ‘In that case, my friend, there is not a minute to lose. You must get on with it right away.’[1]Only you have a vision of the future, you can motivate yourself to do good things in life. You would, then, never feel lazy again in your life since there are so many things to do in this world that a million lives would not be enough to compete the task.Footnotes[1] The Secret Red Book of Leadership

Why do I sometimes feel too lazy to think?

I’m assuming that being ‘lazy to think’ means zoning out as I write this answer.I'm sure that every once in a while people will zone out(not think of anything) but I’m assuming you get it very frequently.Every time I'm on the public transport whether it's to work, an outing or just to get somewhere, I would almost definitely have nothing in my head - just an absolute blank. I'm THAT lazy to think/focus on something along the journey. In my case, I think I'm just the kind of person that really doesn't care about my surroundings that much.So basically, the answer to your question could be that you just don't care about that math question or what your friend was talking about. And/or u could just be zoning out much more easily like me as compared to others. Now, to solve the problem would be pretty challenging depending on how willing you want to get rid of it. One of the solutions that I've personally tried for the frequent ‘zone outs’ is meditation. You could possibly try downloading an app like Headspace to help ease you into meditation. Through meditation, I've managed to stay more focused and alert especially in capturing information.Another way would be to play brain stimulating games that you can easily find in the Play store if you're an Android user or app store if you're an Apple user. Examples of such games that I play would be Word Cookie and Left vs Right which was on the Play store but I'm not sure if they're available on the app store.Last but not least, try to converse with other people such as your friends, family members or work colleagues. Do take note to register bits and pieces of the information in your head by repeating the IMPORTANT WORDS that give context to whatever they are talking about. The reason why this works is that conversing takes up quite a lot of the brain’s processing power and this can train your brain to be stimulated for longer periods of time.Hope my solutions will be effective for you as it has for me (although I’m still zoning out, its at a lower frequency nowadays :D)So tl;dr, either stimulate your brain to think or calm it down to allow it to be more alert and focusedPS. this is my very first answer on this wonderful platform known as Quora!

Why do I always feel lazy to use my mind?

Maybe because of two reasons( As per my assumptions)One - You haven't tried using it. Yes I know it contradicts your question. But the brain is programmed to choose the easiest actions that you have done all your life instead of making you try something hard. It's like,You — hey brain let's try something new and hard like chess! Then you try playing it for sometime & lose interest soon.Brain — Umm chess? Bah I am done. Let's do something that was more easy to do and more fun so it won't be a burden to me.Now there are two things that you can do, either give up and go back to doing something easy like well say eating pancakes? Watching TV? Or perhaps you can decide once and for all that, no this game is interesting and fun. I will keep practicing it. Even if my mind tells me to stop playing as things get tough, I can't give up. I need to be one of the best( FYI - This is why I play chess, your reason can be anything as long as it's strong enough)Now what's gonna happen is that new connections will be made between the neurons in your brain and your IQ will increase(Just gave you one more reason). But that's just an add-on. Unless you keep doing something for a long time, you'll never be able to instill it into your body and mind, you’ll never understand it's use, you'll never get better at it.Two - You might be a prodigy(or close to one, or you possess a high level of intelligence) and everything might be easy for you so you haven't been able to use your brain much (as per your standards). OR you are simply an intelligent being and it bores you to even try something unless you find it really useful. Many Intelligent people are kinda lazy because the brain gets overheated by the overusage which it's not used to, so it makes the person feel lazy to get back to normal.PS - The first part was not biased towards me trying to make you play chess. Lol.Ja Mata Ne. Bai bai. Sayonara..

Why do I feel like my brain has slowed down, I am 26 only and follow good diet and regime?

HiSo it really depends on your situation, I had like that feeling a few months ago. I found out, that the problem for me was, that I restricted my fat intake too much. So instead of having about 20–30% of my calories from fat, it was around 15%.If that isn’t the problem, than maybe your not getting your nutrition in, where fruits and vegetables, or supplements surely can help.Cheers

Is this laziness or something else?

I don't really recognize it, but I always choose tasks that require the least amount of brain power. I can't seems to pick up on new material as quickly as I did 3 yrs ago. Being a college student, this causes a number of issues.

I can't even remember what I ate or did yestersay...it would take me quite a while to sit in solitude and remember what I did vaguely. The day before yesterday feels like months ago, and last week feels like it didn't happen.

Im only 24 yrs old. I stopped trying to self diagnose myself because many people said it was bad. And because my dr is always booked it takes ages to get an appt (sometimes i even forget to call cause my memory sucks so bad).

Others have labeled me as lazy, cause i dont feel sad or look depressed. I can still get around and go shopping, but im quite empty at times and it feels like im drifting...my brain just doesn't have the energy to be challenged.

Is this not a big deal? Apart of being an adult?

I feel extremely sleepy and lazy even after sleeping for 7 hours daily. I even have severe headache when I get up in the morning at times. What should I do?

I can understand your condition because I too had similar problem. And oversleep usually causes headache.Let me list out different probable reasons and solutions for this:Your brain might not be getting enough oxygen.  So make sure you sleep in a room where you get enough air. Try doing pranayamam every morning or go for a morning walk (preferably in an area where trees are plenty). You might be having Vitamin D deficiency. Vitamin D deficiency causes sleep disorders; unexplained awakenings to light sleep, inappropriate body movements during sleep. Buy a good pair of running shoes and go for running everyday, in morning sunlight. Exercise regularly. Whenever you feel sleepy, start exercising or go for running. Or start dancing for your favorite dance number.Your food habits might be affecting your sleeping pattern. Try changing your food pattern. Take more fruit & vegetable servings and limit the intake of sugars and spices. Drink plenty of water all the day.Your life might be quite boring without any goal or any motivation. So first work on listing out your goals or passions or interests. If you have something interesting to do the next day, it will motivate you to wake up early in the morning with lots of energy. Plan something or chart out a time table for each week with interesting tasks that you would love to do.There might be any depressing incident or series of incidents which is sucking your energy. If yes, put an end to that as soon as possible. Leave the past right now. If you are unable to overcome it even after trying hard, talk about it with your family/friends or consult a psychologist. If none of these work or if there is no difference in your condition even after you change your life style, consult a doctor and seek medical help. All the best.
