Why Does My Car Sahke

Why does my car shake at 50 mph?

If 50mph is the resonant point and there is little or no shaking above or below, then I would prioritorize looking at your tyres and wheels.Start with your tyres.  You may have a damaged tyre, either uneven tread wear, a bulge, a foreign object.  Incorrect pressure. Or;- a wheel may be unbalanced, you can see where a wheel balance wieght has come un-attached.Or;- a wheel is not properly attached to the vehicle, check the bolts/nuts holding your wheels on. Unequal tightening may present a distortion to a rim.Shock absorbers, or dampers, when out of gas or oil become useless, and a resonating bounce can occur.  Broken springs.Track rod ends, rotules, steering joints, universal joints, constant velocity joints,  when worn will develop play, and possible vibration.Engine and transmission rubber mounting blocks when worn or damaged can produce vibration. Exhaust mountings.Piston damage. Bodywork that is coming loose that flaps or resonates in the wind.  Virtually everything on your car, when not up to standard condition can be the source of vibration.  About two thirds of the nuts, screws, bolts and fastenings on a car are there to stop it vibrating/shaking etc. Transmission defects, the drive shaft spiders or CV assemblies.Worn wheel bearings. Loose or defective brakes.Almost anything can cause a resonant vibration on your car, but the majority of causes come from the wheels. Then other elements that spin, then mountings, then bodywork.  Because the actual condition of your tyres is probably the most important thing on your vehicle, start there and work out.  If you are not qualified mechanically to find a vibration after that, take the vehicle to a proffessional, it may be a severe problem.  I am qualified, and I always, but always find the problem as soon as is possible. If you are unsure of what you are doing do not drive the vehicle until you or qualified personel have found the cause.  As usual, the advice is to find the cause as quickly as possible. Vibration can be a sign of something harmless or severe, and as you are responsible for the safety of other road users vis a vis any incident that might be provoked by your vehicle, then you must address the problem quickly.

Why does my car shake after i pump gas?

I have a 02 Ford Focus and just recently it started shaking after i put gas. It shakes as if it were going to stall. It never stalls but once i started driving it runs smooth. Any suggestions?

Why does the front end of my car shake?

If at highway speeds it could be a tire that threw off a weight and is out of balance, or more likely that your car needs an alignment. If it is shaking that bad it is likely the latter. Also if your car pulls to the left or right then it is almost surely the alignment. If it is off enough to shake that bad get it checked and fixed immediately. Nothing will chew through tires faster than a misalignment. If you notice this while you are braking, then a brake rotor is warped or you have a caliper stuck. If one of your brake calipers are sticking there is an easy way to check. With the BACK of your hand, cannot stress enough that it is the back, place against the wheel near the center. If it is hot to the touch that is normal. If it is very hot that is not. Check all four, although if its shaking its probably one of the front two. If one feels noticeably hotter than the rest there is your guy. PS don’t ever reach through the wheel and touch the disc. Made that mistake once and got burnt pretty good

Why does my car shake and pull to the left?

My car did that once upon a time and I think it was a tie rod that I had to have fixed.

worn tie rod ends can cause wandering, erratic steering, and excessive tire wear. If tie rod replacement is necessary, a wheel alignment is also required because tie rod replacement disturbs the toe setting.

Why does my car shake when in drive?

Sounds to me like a bad engine mount.

WHY DOES MY CAR SHAKE WHEN I DRIVE OVER 60 MPH?

I DRIVE A 2008 HONDA CIVIC SEDAN LX. I HAVE 60K MILES ON IT. ONLY WORK I'VE HAD DONE ARE OIL CHANGES & REPLACED BREAK PADS & A ROTOR. WILL I NEED NEW SHOCKS OR STRUTS? WHEN I DRIVE OVER 60 MPH MY CAR SHAKES OR VIBRATES IT'S ANNOYING & IT SMELLS LIKE BURNING TIRES WHEN I GET OUT THE CAR. WILL I NEED TO GET MY WHEELS BALANCED & TURNED? MY TIRES STILL ARE UNDER WARRANTY SO IF THEY NEED TO BE REPLACED IT WILL BE FOR FREE.

Why does my car shake between 70-80 mph, but if I go faster it does not?

The answer is likely a wheel that is "out of round" or not well balanced. When you buy tires, they are never perfectly balanced, which is why all tires require "balancing". This is simply done by adding weights to the rim of your wheel to offset the uneven weight distribution of a naturally imperfect tire.

Like a slightly out-of-balance spinning top will wobble at a certain rotational speed, so will your wheels when you hit that specific speed (wheel rotation.) Major factors that affect what that "magic" speed is are size (outer circumference) of the wheel and how out of balance it is.

Things that will bring a wheel out of balance include skids, (out of) alignment issues, heavy braking, weights falling off, improper balancing, and defects in the tire. There are others, but those are biggies.

The solution is to either replace the tires (replace in pairs or fours, never just one) or have them rebalanced at your local tire shop.

Why does my car shake when I put it in reverse?

I have a 1998 Toyota. Everything was fine when I was parking the car, until I put it in reverse. It started shaking - the entire car. When I put it in drive again, the shaking slowly went away after about 30 seconds. What could cause this shaking? What is the estimated cost of repair? I'm taking it to the mechanic tomorrow and I want to have an idea of what could be wrong. Thanks
