Why does my cat pee on the towels and rugs left on the floor?
Is he just trying to tell my kids to pick up their dirty laundry or does he hate the detergent scent? Anyone else have this problem? He is a male fixed cat. I have three and he is the only one that does it. I will leave no towels or rugs in the bathroom for awhile and think..AAAAHHHAA!! I can put it back down. Two minutes later he pee's on it and I have to start all over again by washing. What the hell is it? I need my rugs on the floor since we have no carpet in the house!

Okay so I've had my cat for a few years now and she recently started peeing on towels and the rug in the hallway. For towels, if we leave them out on the floor of the bathroom or anywhere, she WILL pee on it. Also, a lot of time she will just pee somewhere (often in the same spot or around the same area) on the rug in the hallway and she keeps doing it no matter what, and she has her litter box very close by in the bathroom. My parents are really getting tired of it. Why is she doing it? Is there a way to stop her from doing it? Thanks! :)

Do check with the vet to rule out a UTI or crystals, as that would cause the cat to pee out of the box, and the urine doesn't have to smell bad, or he doesn't have to be straining. That is of course step one. The box is of course kept very clean and uncovered? You haven't changed the litter? It does sound though as you are already taking care of this, but is there a time when you neglect the box, and is that when he pees on the rugs? There are some cats who just like peeing on bathroom rugs. I've had a number of them - they are not sick, they do not have a URI, their box is clean, and so on and so on. The just like to pee on the rugs. The only solution to that unfortunately, is to remove the rugs. With some cats, removing them temporarily works, others will continue to do it when the rug is replaced. I have one cat who will pee on any rubber-backed bathroom rug. We changed the rug to one without a rubber backing, and it's now not attractive to him anymore. Rule out the health issue first, but then consider taking up the rugs for a while.

My cat is declawed and fixed but she won't stop peeling on rugs, carpets, clothes ect.. I just got done showering so I put my towel on the floor to soak up water, I left the bathroom and then about 5 minutes later I went into the bathroom and I caught her peeing on the towel!! My parents are getting so tired of it.. But I really don't want to get rid of her.. Any ideas on why she's doing this and how to make her stop?? Thanks!! Ps. Her litter box is scooped everyday and it was just cleaned about an hour ago ._.

OK - The cat does not have an infection. He is a male. He is altered (neutered), therefore is is not spraying. He is about one year old. He used to pee on the old rug too, but this is a fairly new development - He never did it when he was a kitten, he just started doing it about a month or so before I re-did the bathroom. I cannot keep the bathroom door closed - His litter box is IN the bathroom. I clean it about every other day so his box is pretty clean. There is a second box in another room. He STILL pees on the bathroom rug. I'm gonna try the Indoor No or Natures Miracle to see if it's the scent of the rug that pisses the cat off. Other than that, I am totally at a loss.

Consider changing it.Youre using an electric cat box and the cat is scared of it. If so, try a non motorized box.The litter box is in a spot where the cat doesn't feel secure. How to get cat pee out of my bathroom rug... why? And how can I make them stop?
My cats are sneaky lil buggers. Last week I found out my cats had been using my upstairs bathroom rug another option to relieve themselves. We had no Idea they were doing it. It smelled bad in the bathroom but we just assumed it was because the litter box is in the closet. Anyway, once I did find out I threw the rug out because it was basically destroyed. This week I found our new bathroom rug in the downstairs basement freshly peed on. Why are my cats doing this? And how can I make them stop? Also - If you know, can I put bathroom rugs in the washer? They have the rubber bottom... or is it not worth it. I've heard from some people say that you cant get the pee smell out no matter what.
Why does my cat pee outside of the litter box?
9 times out of 10 this is a litter issue. Cats are EXTREMELY sensitive with their paws. There are certain textures that a cat will just hate and if that texture is their litter pox sand then they won't use it. If you have a covered litter box that could also be an issue, because some cats don't like going to the bathroom in an enclosed space. It is going to take a little trial and error to figure out what exactly the problem(s) are, but in the end its going to make a happier cat, and a happier you!

Your cat has soiled the mat, and it's virtually impossible to get the smell out of fabric.
