Why Does My Cat Poop On The Carpet Near The Letter Box

Cat poops on carpet in same spot.?

The cat has probably associate a smell with that area now. If you go to a larger pet store, they have stuff that you can spray on the carpet there to make sure the cat avoids it, and I had the same problem, it worked GREAT, and was not too expensive.

If it keeps up, move the litter box right to that spot for a day or two, and then slowly move the box to where you want the box to be, and see if you can trick the cat into using it, that was my backup plan

How do I get my cat to stop pooping on the carpet? PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!?

Firstly, spanking a cat will only cause fear not a change in behaviour, it is actually likely to make behaviour worse. A tap on the nose is also bad as cats have very fragile nasal bones that can be broken easily.

I would recommend a check up at the vet, your cat may be trying to tell you something is wrong or the bad behaviour is an effect of whats wrong. One of my cats started pooping in the bathroom to make us aware he was pooping blood, another started doing it in the front room, a check up a the vet revealed arthritis, he had been in a lot of pain, he is now on slow release pain killers and hes back to chasing the grass in the wind and pooping outside, mine are all outdoor cats. The only clue that something was wrong was bad behaviour, in both cases there were no other symptoms.

Your cat has no idea what construction is, all she knows is her territory has been invaded and changed. That is enough to stress any cat. Try spending time with her in the new spaces to reassure her that its still her territory. Encourage her to rub her cheeks on things in the new space, marking them with her scent.

Each cat in a household should have thier own litter box, this is a territorial thing.

There are a few things to try, if she has a favourite poop spot, get a citrus smelling air or fabric freshner and spray on carpet. This could just cause her to find somewhere else to do it, continue with the spray.

Next, to try, is putting poop and cat in litterbox at same time, re-teach her where it goes.

You could also try a small water pistol, but this would mean watching and waiting to catch her at it, then take aim and shoot.

The tin foil already mentioned is good aswell as cats will not walk on it.

Behaviour problems are usually caused by medical, environmental or psychological problems. Find out whats bothering her, correct it and she should return to normal.

Good luck to you xx

Why does my young cat poop next to my pillow?

How often does this happen? If it is declawed, or has/had a uti, it could be associating the litter box with pain. How often is the litter box cleaned, and what type of litter and litter box do you use? The litter box could be too small and the litter could be uncomfortable, or if it’s scented it could be too strong

My ferret craps on the carpet and not in the litter box, any way to make him stop?

First off, even the best litter trained ferret will only hit the box about 80% of the time.

Your first option, buy more litter pans. Put them throughout the areas where your ferret is allowed to play.

Second option, instead of litter pans, use newspaper. This can easily be picked up and thrown away when your ferret goes back to his cage.

Anyways, ferrets claim their territory by going potty. Typically a ferret will pick thier corners/areas to potty pretty quick and stick to them unless another ferret starts using them. That and they will pick more than one spot.

My ferrets (I have 5) have free run of the house when I am home and awake, so putting a litter box in all of thier corners is a little nuts. Plus I have the issue of cats. Typically, a ferret will not use a box if a cat has used it. I use the newspaper. This is very easy. I just pick up the soiled paper at the end of the night and replace it with clean. That and when I have guests, I don't have litter pans all over the house. I just pick up all the paper and put it back when they leave. But, I don't usually let the ferrets out when there are guests at the house. Too many feet to step on them.

Now, one bad note. I have a 9 year old ferret. Age can be a problem with this issue. An older ferret might not be able to make it to a potty spot. Sometimes it gets to the point where they can not hold it long enough to get to one. This means possible "presents" in the middle of the floor. I have put down more potty areas for my old boy, but it still doesn't always help. I just keep a roll of toilet paper in almost every room to clean up the "presents" as I find them.

Well, I hope this helped a little.

Why has our cat started to poop near our Christmas tree?

He ither thinks hes outside or hes trying to tell you "Christmas is over people!"

My cat pooped on the carpet twice, in the same spot?

Cats that have been going in there litter box and suddenly start pooping outside there box could have many different things wrong with them. They could be sick, mad at you, or they may not like the kitty litter. Did you change the kind of kitty litter that you normaly use? There is some stuff called "Complete" for cats that you can spray on the area on the rug that the kitty pooped on to remove the stains and odor and there is something in it that is supposed to make the cat not want to go to the bathroom there again.

Why does my cat scratch the wall after 'going' in her litter box?

It could be an attempt to cover the litter as in displaced burying behaviour but it could also be an attempt to get your attention to let you know it’s time to clean the litter box. Watch to see if there’s a pattern and try to figure if your cat is really doing this to communicate with you. After going in the litter box our Sasha would come out, even into another room, and scratch at cardboard. It took me a long time, as in two years, to figure out what she wanted. She wanted ME! She wanted me to clean that box and get rid of what smelled! She had little tells. Licking plastic meant she wanted food. Scratching cardboard or plastic meant she wanted the litter box cleaned. You know, she understood most of the things I said to her, but, despite having a Harvard education, it took stupid me two years to decode her messages. Here’s our late and much beloved Sasha. I’ve written about her before, notably as the third section of Have you ever seen your cat doing something remarkably intelligent? where I describe how she learned to imitate a human kiss. That cat was a very good communicator and a very resourceful creature. She once dragged a bed out of a closet and across the floor to set it up beside a heating vent.I write often about cats. My cat just pooped on the carpet in my apartment for the first time. Does this mean he’s trying to assert himself?

If there aren’t any significant changes (you just moved, you’re gone a lot more, new roommate, loud new neighbor noise or bumping connecting walls, new brand of kitty munchies or litter, relocated box), he may be trying to tell you he’s sick.More obvious possibilities are:Litter box needs more attention (one clump or log may not seem like much, but think if you’d be OK digging in there with your bare feet and hands…)Brand or type of litter irritates his paws or undercarriageBox needs to have more privacyFood or water needs changingIf he really had a grudge, he would’ve dropped the deuce on your bed/pillow. If he’s asserting his alpha in the place he’d urinate, which is far, far worse.

My cat keeps pooping in the exact same spot on the carpet. This has happened over 15 times. Help?

I have this exact problem with one of my three kitties--her favorite spot to poo on the carpet is next to the front leg of my favorite chair in the front room.

My problem, as well, started up in a new house, and all the information I've found tells me that it's simply because the smell of another animal is there and threatening her--that another cat may have gone to the bathroom there before we bought the house, and the faint traces of it left over bother her. So she covers them up.

Something else I've learned about it is this: cats are extremely fickle, and they operate on a hierarchy much the same as we do. But cats are far more condescending than we are, and, in a word, snarky. Often times it can be a territorial action, but it's not necessarily the other cats--it can be you. As silly as it sounds, to put it in leyman's terms, if your cat thinks he's better than you he'll spite you by pooping on your carpet instead of the designated area. He may think he's too good for the litterbox.
