Why Does My Computer Turn On And Off

Why does my computer turn on by itself?

My computer is a custom built cyber-power PC with a windows 8 OS. Recently, it has been turning itself on at random (Or so I believe) times during the day and at night while I sleep. However, when it turns itself on, the computer won't let me type or use the mouse and then I have to force it down and flip the switch in the back before I can turn it on properly.

I changed the BIOS settings so that it wouldn't wake up by other means (LAN, mouse, keyboard) and opened the task scheduler to make sure nothing was forcing it on. But neither of those would explain why it freezes when it starts itself.

Also, not sure if this would affect the problem in any way, but it didn't start having problems until I bought a Samsung 24'' monitor.

Any help would be appreciated.

Why does my computer turn on by itself?

Several possibilities. First one that comes to mind is you have some sort of remote assistance software installed and enabled. The list is long, but some are: AMMYY, VNC, GoToMyPC, GoToAssist, TeamViewer, Chrome Remote Desktop, LogMeIn,... And Windows has Remote Desktop built in. My personal choices - I do this for a living - are TeamViewer, RDP, and Chrome Remote.Again, the list is long, this is just the first few that popped into my head. Some have good reputations, some (like AMMYY) have bad reputations that they don't deserve. But reputation doesn't matter much for this question, what matters is: do you have something like this installed, and how is it set up?Most remote access software can be configured to run a service or process at boot, that allows a remote person to log in and access the machine. If the laptop is sleeping or hibernating, the Network Adapter can be set to Wake On LAN. In fact, it's set that way by default on most machines. And remember, you need not have anything installed, Windows RDP can be setup to allow this without any additional software. Remote Desktop (RDP) Hacking 101: I can see your desktop from here!Obviously, if this is happening you need to put a stop to it. Look at all your programs, see if one of them is a remote access tool. Refer to the above article and make sure RDP is off, or set correctly to prevent this. If you can't figure it out, take it to a pro. Or just reinstall Windows, and then turn off RDP.This is not the only possible explanation, there are others that are probably less disturbing. As I said, it's just the first one that comes to mind, probably because I do this every day, helping my clients and accessing the servers I admin.

So I have been having problems with my computer turning off, when I shut it down the power supply would keep running and GPU lights would still be on, after I cleaned it out a bit it was working fine but now it’s doing the same thing But before it would boot up when I press the power button even though the power was still going. Now it won’t turn on even when I press it. I want to know if I have to replace the power supply or not it’s an EVEA 500w thank you

Why does my computer turn off when I paly Age of Empires 3?

check your hardware , get PC CHECK and run it before loading windows ...burn it on a DVD and boot on it ! do a complete scan if nothing turns red to FAILED, go back to windows and run a program called WINSTRESS ...it does exactly what you're thinking ! it stresses the computer using everything aspect that windows might. if your computer shuts down during winstress well ...do another pc check if nothing procede with hardware elimination , try new RAM , PSU , GPU and remove all optical drives you have.

check the games specs and requirements if you meet them , well ...check if you have a good graphic card and if it needs a bigger power supply sometimes people forget to change power supplies.

go to your bios right after the computer shuts down and check its temprature !

anything else ? reinstall windows and see if the game does it again ...update all software you have to make sure youve got the latest patches up and running ! and by updating , i also mean windows updates !

How do I repair a computer that turns off by itself?

Most common cause of a computer turning itself off is overheating. Here’s how i personally remedy such a situation.Open it up and see if both the cooler and chassis fans are moving. They should also move really fluidly. They shouldn’t be dirty and dusty. All that serves to slow them up or make them cease causing overheating.Next, swap the SMPS. That will be the Switch Mode Power Supply unit with a similar rated one, output-wise. Dont connect the peripherals - hard an optical drives - initially. Switch on the PC and monitor.Problem persists, remove the front cover and see that the power on-off button is also well greased and not getting stuck in either the on or off poaitions. If it does get stuck, spray some good brand degreaser like the good old WD40.Problem should be sorted by now but if not, so not fret. Check the memory slots. If you have more than one memory modules, remove all then slot in just one. Power up the PC and see. Same problem, swap with another one and try again. Do it with all the DIMMS till you’re done.If no memory chip fires up the computer to the end, then we have the possible culprit as your motherboard. Now there are ways to also diagnose further and isolate the motherboard and the processor chip but, story for another day!
