Why Does My Cooling Fan Stay On

Why does the cooling fan on my '84 Saab 900 Turbo not turn off at the time it's supposed to?

The fan is supposed to stay on for 5 minutes after the car turns off to cool the turbo and engine. But the fan right now keeps staying on. I could run it forever until the battery drains out. Is there a bad relay? I'm just annoyed with having to pull a fuse to turn off the fan every time.

My 91 accord cooling fan stays on after its off?

Probably normal......I had an '89 accord that did the same thing....
Unless your engine is running hot while driving, the "Check Engine" light is on, or if the fan stops working, then I wouldn't worry about it.....especially on a car that old.

1996 Ford Taurus cooling fan stays on?

The PCM does control the cooling fan relay, turns it on or off, depending on what the PCM tells it to do. The constant control relay module actually contains the cooling fan relay. The relay module is mounted to the side of the battery. A strap clamp holds it on. It is a black metal box about 5 inches square. A quick test you may try, with the car off, and the cooling fan still running, take something like a wooden handle and tap a few good licks on the metal relay box mounted to the side of the battery, don't destroy the thing, just a few good licks. If the cooling fan stops, hey you may just need a constant control relay module because the fan relay is sticking. If it doesn't change it, then the PCM is actually commanding the fan to run all of the time.

What would cause 1999 sunfire cooling fan to stay on?

When you drive the water pump circulates the coolant in the engine. When you stop and shut off the engine, the circulation then stops. Coolant in the head gets hotter(just like water on the stove)-it boils. This trips the cooling fan to come on and suck air through the rad, cooling the coolant and blows that air onto the engine cooling it down. This is "normal operation". The cooling fan will come on while you drive to aid in cooling (especially when you are driving in stop and go traffic) at city speeds.. This is normal as the engine sensor is telling the fan to come on because the engine is getting up in temperature. To drive into your yard after local neighborhood driving, or hauling a trailer up a hill, and have the fan start running is normal.
Pulling out the fuse is not correct thing to do. It will only run for a few minutes and then shut off.
This is normal. . Not enough power is taken from the battery to cause you any grief. More grief is caused by you removing the fuse.(as you will possibly have head warpage) However, first thing in the morning, see if there is coolant in your overflow container. If there is none, you are running low so add some. I would say remove the rad cap, except I can't be sure if you have a removable one.> And only do it in the morning before you start the car< If you can see inside the rad and it does not have coolant right up to the rad cap, you need some and can add some that way as well.as well as making sure the overflow container has coolant in it too.

Possibly your water pump is leaking. coolant. Get it checked out.

How soon should the car cooling fans come on if you let the car idle?

Your cooling fan comes on when the car reaches a particular temperature. The trigger is the thermostat in the radiator of your vehicle. It is what sends the signal for the fan. Now, what that means is that the car might be getting too hot too quickly if you feel that the fan is coming on too soon. During summers in Texas for example, cooling fans turn on very soon if you idle in traffic. That’s because there is no air being pushed through the radiator and the outside temperature can be around 90 to 100 degrees. So, it all depends on where you live, the car you drive and how old it is.Most cars will switch the cooling fan when the coolant temperature reaches 85 degrees Celsius (185 degrees Fahrenheit). That is considering having the air conditioner on. If your car reaches those temperatures too soon you may have some issues with your water pump.

Cooling fan problem on my Pontiac G5?

Just bought a 2007 Pontiac G5 2.2L with a known issue. Basically, every time after shutting down the engine the cooling fan stays on for about 15 minutes, this happens "every time" even if i just turn the car on and off in the mornings when the engine is completely cool. Now, temperature gauge works perfectly fine and temperature indications seem normal for each driving conditions, I've already done some trouble shooting like checking the cooling fan relay which also seems to be working perfectly, I also checked the coolant temperature sensor, what I'm left with would be the thermostat. but before I decide to replace it I would rather look for second opinions first. Mechanic we'll charge me 195 plus labor and parts and i cant afford that right now. please help me if you can, thanks.
