Why does my dog lick his paws?

there can be many reasons dogs lick there paws. cleaning them is one of them but it is usually a obsessive behavior. they get in a habit of licking and they tend to do it when they are bored. the saliva is what turns their fur a rusty reddish color if they do it all the time. liking can also be caused by allergies. many allergies can cause the pads of dogs feet to be very tender and slightly swollen, they are trying to make them feel better. or because they have hurt their paw. your situation sounds like either the Obsession or allergies. if it is allergies they may have a light rash or redness in their groin or arm pit, as well as an ear infection. if not is the Obsession. the "stop licking" sprays can help this but you have to be putting it on all the time as habits are hard to break, just like chewing your finger nails. i hope this helps
