Why Does My Iphone 4 Say This Accessory May Not Be Supported And Wont Charge

'Charging is not supported with this accessory' Why does my iPhone 4 keep saying that?

My iPod touch already died because of that message six months ago (but that's probably because I dropped the bottom of it into soup...) and now my iPhone 4 is doing it. Sometimes even though it has that message it still charges but others it doesn't, like last night. I plugged in my phone at 10PM when it was 38% battery life and when I unplugged it in the morning around 6:30AM it was only 54% charged, so I moved the plug around and by 7AM it was 74%. Why is my phone doing this? I'm pretty sure I haven't wet it except for one or two droplets of water and I do drop it a lot but it never cracks. I've had my iPhone for about a year and a half now and my phone company will let me get a free one after six more months. Is it my phone's age that is making it mess up or did all my dropping it mess up the inside circuits? Also, my charger is about six months old. Could it be that too?

What makes an iPhone charger say ‘accessory not supported’ how can you prevent it?

There are generally two reasons you get a message like this:The cable or charger is not a MFi certified device (Made for iPhone/iPad/iPod) and is therefore simply not supported. Non-MFi devices can be very dangerous. Sadly, a lot of them are labeled MFi even when they are not, especially on Amazon and other third party sites. Look into the manufactures and find out if they actually are MFi certified. If they are not, steer clear of them. The cable or charger is damaged in some way, so the iPhone is reading it as a non-MFi device. I have a few cables like this that are of poor quality, in spite of being MFi certified. As they start to fail more and more, I have started getting that message pop up when I try to use them. They’re just low quality and failing. If so, replace them. I even had this happen to an Apple charger that came with my iPhone.

IPhone 6 This accessory may not be supported ?

I just bought a new battery case for my iphone 6 but when I plug it in it said this accessory may not be supported. Do you guy have any suggestion what I can do ?

How can I fix this error, “This accessory may not be supported in an iPhone 6.”?

Solution 1: Change the CableIf you have a spare cable (like iPod Touch cable), you can always plug it into the power socket and charge your iPhone. Notice if the error still appears. If it doesn’t, you are good. If it does, go through the next solution.Solution 2: Remove Dust From Apple’s CableYou can use a pushpin to carefully insert it into your iPhone or iPad charging port, and clean out the pocket lint or debris from the charging port and try charging your iPhone now. You can always use an old toothbrush to get rid of those internal dust.Solution 3: Switch ON Airplane ModeFirst, connect your iPhone to the charging cable. The error message will appear, so dismiss or ignore it. Next, turn ON the Airplane mode in your device. Now switch OFF your iPhone. Wait for another 2 minutes and switch it ON again. You will no longer receive the error message.Solution 4: Change Power SupplyRaymond explains: “Your USB port on your computer may not be providing enough power. My iPhone will charge from my computer, my iPad will not because there is not enough power. Not all USB ports provide the same amount of power.” So if you are using iPhone 6 Plus or iPhone 6 that will require different power supply, you may want to use a different power source.Solution 5: Use Bypass AddonIf your iPhone is jailbroken, then you can use Bypass Unsupported Access addon available in Cydia. The process is simple: Open Cydia, add new repo — http://canolli.myrepospace.com — and search for the Bypass Unsupported Access. Download and install it to get rid of the error message permanently.

What does this accessory may not be supported mean?

So I was charging it yesterday when a message popped up saying this accessory may not be supported and my phone looks fine it doesn't have any damage or wire coming out because it has a protector so it won't bend and break but I don't know why I got that message twice yesterday even if I move a little it the same message popped up but when I was in my room charging it's working good and I didn't see the message again it's just sometimes it vibrates even if I turn off my vibration and email and notification to preserve battery life so what does this accessory may not be supported? Is my charger broken? What does the vibration mean even if you turn off your vibration or notification off?

IPhone: charging is not supported with this accessory?

All was well in my world. I was getting the juice I desperately needed from the plug, and I could carry on playing Angry Birds and logging long bike rides again. Bliss.

Some time had passed, and poof like that it stopped charging itself again. And there I was... looking at that stupid yellow exclamation point again. I picked up the other phone and called Apple... Right after hearing that first automated voice system, I hung up with Apple. I shrugged off their Apple protection plan 2 years ago when I purchased my phone. I was already formulating my own CS talk track for genius bar repair...

Next thought was that it was software related as I had physically cleaned it and then had tried all sorts of different power plugs with no success. Frustrated, I left it alone and I started to research the webz about iOS power management and my ageing device. Nothing really good came up except people experiencing this same issue, a seemingly prevalent one.

This is when I began to think my phone was really on the verge of death. So I synced my phone immediately and then nervously started exploring contingency plans like buying another phone or upgrading my plan... but none of those options made economical sense with the new phone about to come on the market.

DANETERRELL3the usual way to dela with that is by

1.try other USB cable,or charger.

2.Replace dock flex connector.

3.Reball/Replace PMIC.

Anything after that could be turning into a board level repair, due to failed SMD components, like the diodes. Hope this helps, good luck.

Can't seem to find guides on dock flex connector or PMIC. Starting to wonder if not better off replacing phone?

DANETERRELL3, Nov 23 2012

PMIC=Power Management IC dock flex connector= the cable on your dock connector. Check the connector on the board. Are you pretty handy with a multimeter and a soldering station?

I am having problems with my iphone as well. It kkeeps saying charging is not supported with this device. I have tried restoring it and a lot of other methods online. I also read that it could be the dock connector. I was just wondering if anyone knew any other methods to make this go away before i buy a new dock connector. Any input would be greatly appreciated thanks sandy.

Why does my iphone keep saying this accessory may not be supported when i try to charge it?

I have the iphone 4. I havent even had it a month, theres no damage to it. I had the original charger, and after two weeks it started saying this whether it was plugged into the wall or my laptop. So, i got a new cable cord. almost two weeks later, its saying the same thing!!
Im getting super irritated.

** If it was water damage, then it would happen all the time, not be fine a few weeks then quit then be fine when a new one comes along.
Any idea what this is or how to fix it?
Ill be calling sprint later anyways.

IPhone 4 iOS 7.1.2 "This accessory may not be supported"?

So for about two months, my iPhone 4 has been not charging AT ALL, unless its off but even then, it only charges to like 23%. Ive tried so many different cables and bricks, and none work. What the heck do I do? I've tried factory reset, hard reset, and literally over 5 third party chargers and 2 Apple "supported" chargers. None work. I can't contact Apple about it because they charge ridiculous prices to contact them. What should I do? I can't afford a new phone.

There's no water damage at all, or dust/lint in the charging port. I'm positive its the software update.

Is there any way I can downgrade to iOS 7.1.0 or 7.1.1? I'm 99% sure it worked flawlessly before the update.
