Why Does My Portable Iphone Charger Get Really Hot When I Charge My Phone

Does your iPhone 4 charger get really hot?

I replaced my iphone charger 3 times already. The iPhones kills the chargers.
If your I-Phone doesn't work when you try charging it; its most likely because you need to replace the charger.

Don't put the charger by steam, water, ..etc. Its going to die out.
When it gets hot; its because your using it too much.

How to fix portable charger that won't charge?

Lipstick-sized portable USB charger with flashlight. Can't tell what brand. It has a USB port, a micro-USB port (Android phones), and a button to turn on/off the flashlight.

Okay, I did something sort of stupid: I plugged in both ends of a charging cable into the portable charger (both the micro USB and the USB) at the same time to see what would happen. After that, it wouldn't charge my phone anymore and the flashlight wouldn't turn on. I don't think the battery is dead because the charging light still turns on when I plug it into the wall.

What can I do to fix this so it will be able to charge my phone?

Please let me know if you need more info or if you need pictures. (Yahoo won't upload the one picture I have...)

Thank you.

Most power banks and other devices can be charged with either an USB or a micro USB cable. There are bigger ones (which seve as universal charger for everything, even for jumpstarting a car), which come with an own A/C adapter. You also can attach an additional battery shaped like a protective phone cover to your iPhone. This device plugs into the lightning socket of your phone. But about all of theses devices do not have a lightning socket do be charged themselves, they have a micro USB socket, so you need a different a/c adapter to charge the addional battery than you need to charge the phone itself (but you also can leave the phone in the battery cover and charge both with one charger).Apple offers an additional battery to slip on for their iPhone 6 models. This is the only one I know which offers a lightning socket, so you can use the apple charging adapter both to charge your iPhone alone or to charge the battery pack - or to charge both.

If it's getting unusually hot, and your iPhone is under warranty, get Apple to check it. If not, throw it away. It's not worth getting injured or killed because of a faulty charger.Anker chargers are inexpensive and reliable. They sell on Amazon. Search for 'Anker iPhone charger.’ If you prefer Apple's, I recommend getting a 10 or 12 watt iPad charger. It will charge your phone faster (yes, safely). If you have an iPhone 8, 8 Plus, or X, you can buy a quick charger that will charge your iPhone really fast. I think they're 15 watts. I bought one from Anker for my Galaxy S7 Edge.

Why does my phone get so hot when charging?

If you've got an iphone, or blackberry then it will got hot will it working up so much energy and electricity so there for it gets warm and if you charge it too much you and blow the battery up

Most likely this is normal. All batteries warm up when charging. The more charge you need to replenish, and the faster you charge, the hotter it gets. Worse part is that hot charging wears out the battery more too. This happens with iPhone, with Macs, with HP laptops, Toshiba laptops, IBM/Lenovo laptops, Samsung, Google Pixel, HTC, bike flashlights, Tesla cars, etc. Literally, anything with a rechargeable battery where customers want fast charging. For you iPhone, if this bothers you a lot, find a an older iPod USB charger which is rated for 500ma (aka 0.5 Amps). Because the iPhone will charge faster on a charger with higher output, picking a lower output charger will mean it’ll charge slower. Slower charging means the battery makes less heat when charging. But yeah, it might take like 4 times longer to charge.

A mobile charger takes ac power source, from the plug 220 volts and converts it into about 5 volts DC This conversion process generates heat, because the voltage conversion is not 100% efficient. There’s always some energy that turns into heatJUST REMEMBER THERE IS NO IDEAL MACHINE WITH 100% EFFICIENCY IN THE WORLDhow much energy depends on the charging circuit and the parts inside the charger.Cell chargers are small and compact, and this collects heat sources within the charger The heat usually comes from one or several chips Manufacturers put these chips near the plastic cover on purpose, so the heat can escape. Heat’s going to flow pretty fast outward from that point, and your phone charger is going to heat up in a specific point, especially when you’re charging a phone that has a high battery capacityCell phone chargers and battery packs getting warm is normal, and it’s simply an effect of the voltage conversion that occurs within these devices. It should be of no concern.Of course, heating has to be moderate: your charger is going heat up, but not enough to reach burning temperatures. You should still be able to handle the charger comfortably, and it should never cause damage to nearby surfaces. If your charger gets too hot to touch, or if the plastic surfaces start to burn that indicates a problem. It could be a serious electrical problem inside the phone or the charger, and maybe even a fault in the battery protection circuit.

Your houses power is typically at a much higher voltage than a cellphone can use. Typically a cellphone will charge on anything around 5.5 volts (this is a rough estimate based on a computer’s usb voltage). Your house’ power can be anything from 110 V to 220 V depending on where you live. The end result is that if you want to charge your phone directly from a wall socket you need to bring the voltage down to do so. Your cellphone’s charger does this automatically by means of a built in charge circuit. This charge circuit generates its own heat when it’s doing it’s job. This is why a cellphone charger will get hot.A battery works because of chemistry. When you charge it you are reversing chemical reactions inside the battery. These chemical reactions generate heat. This is why a battery gets hot. This is also why you don’t want to overcharge batteries or connect them to voltages that are too high. In extreme cases like that those chemical reactions can make a battery go pop.

What does it mean when my phone charger adapter gets hot?

I have an Android, the adapter for my charger is one of those universal USB things Samsung gave me.

Lately the adapter will get very hot while charging, it used to be on only certain outlets, but now it's doing it on all of them. The cord and phone do not get hot, but the adapter gets piping hot and smells like burning plastic, but it doesn't get so hot it would start a fire.

Is this normal, or should I look into replacing the adapter?

Its definitely not normal. There must be a problem with the USB cable if you are using the stock charger, otherwise the charger must be faulty. If you are using a charger made for any other device please stop using as it may damage your phone. If you are using a turbo charger from any company(Qualcomm or OPPO or whatever), please do not use those on your non supported phones.Okay. the hardware circuitry is very easy to understand. If your charger is providing more current than assigned then the current control circuit will limit the current to the assigned or lower and will dissipate the extra current as heat. This results in heating. The other reason can be if your charger’s USB cable is faulty and there is port head mismatch between the heads of the USB cable and Charger or USB cable and Phone.
