Why Does My Scarred Cut Still Hurt

Why do my self harm scars hurt?

It sounds like an indiciation that you could have needed stitches or steri-strips. Steri strips act as stitches but you can do it yourself and they can be bought over the counter and in most supermarkets, when you cut deeply i would suggest (from personal experience) that you invest in these or at least put a wound dressing on to help seal the cut as otherwise, for 1 it may get infected and 2, it will take longer to heal and yes, will hurt if you touch it for a while, and most likely be a more long term scar depending on depth; I know it is one of those things, personally i always thought it was a crazy question when therapists or others ask 'do you care for you cuts afterwards' and i would always reply that no, why on earth would i? i have such little appreciation for my body, i don't care if i live or die and to be honest washing and dressing a wound isn't the most important thing i am thinking about whilst self harming or following, but actually now i have had to go to hospital and been stitched up there and had blood clots and at the age of 21 can not expose legs, arms, wrists, stomach or chest unless i don't mind awful looks and looking like a purple zebra... i wouldn't suggest it myself... get some steri-strips and just apply a couple if you do cut deeply, honestly it does help and nobody needs to know as you can apply them yourself very easily, it reduces risks of complications and in a way others finding out etc. All the best, and i hope that one day you find acceptance within yourself and not need to harm yourself Rara x

My cut is healed, but the scar still hurts?

A few weeks ago I got a cut in the cartilage of my ear. I didnt go to a doctor and it healed without stitches, but I have a scar there because the cut was gaping open and healed in a bad position.

Anyway, the scar hurts when I touch or press on it. Its like a sharp sudden pain. Is this normal for a cut that only just healed, or is my ear permanently messed up now? Im afraid that even though the skin closed, the cartilage under it is still damaged.

Why does my scar still hurt sometimes? (and some more questions)?

I have an 8 inch scar below my jaw line on my neck, and it's about 4 or 5 years old (I'm not in the mood for math right now... it was the summer of 7th grade, and I'm now a senior in high school).

So it's definitely healed, but sometimes if it gets pressed on it hurts a little, like a bruise. For an example, the doctor needs to press on it if he's checking for glandular swelling if my throat is sore, or if I'm rough housing with my friends or something and they are pretending to choke me). Why is it still more tender than the other side of my neck? Or sometimes if it is poked (like my necklace jabs into it or something) I will get a sharp pain followed by a dispersed tingling feeling shooting through my neck. I just don't really understand why it still reacts to stimulation differently than the rest of my skin.

Another question............... why do scars even form, permanently? Skin sheds and grows back, so why doesn't it just end up being flat smooth skin again? And why is it still a more pink color, instead of regular pigment?

One more question......... so supposedly scars are tough, strong networks of skin tissue and stronger than regular skin (or so I thought, I could be wrong... like when a bone breaks and grows back, it's stronger and more dense in that area than before). If this is so, why is there the possibility of scars tearing/reopening when traveling at MACH speeds (if that is correct... not sure)? Wouldn't they be stronger?

If you cut yourself, how long does it take for the scars to go away?

It depends what you use to cut yourself - razor cuts are thin and heal easily (although this also depends how deep you go) I have seen many "cat scratch" cuts from a razor - which take, on average, a week to heal. Deeper ones do heal - although the skin is permanently damaged - also depending where you are cut. Soft skin such as on the wrists, abdomen will scar easier and be more noticable. Try tissue oil (bio - oil) anything high in Vitamin E will help with your scars, sun light also helps the skin tones blend in.
Above that - I would suggest finding an even better solution to aviod cutting at all (taking into consideration I do not know your situation or do not know if this was in fact an accident) If not, get some professional help, perhaps talk to an adult you trust, or a close friend - obtain a support system! Take Care

Sometimes my old cutting scars hurt?

It was kind of strange, I was writing an angsty poem about a disheartened person who cut herself and I guess it made me think of when I cut myself a couple months ago, anyway I got a dull throbbing pain in my arm, very dull, so dull that it doesn't really even bother me, it just kind of reminds me its there, and this isn't the first time it's happened it throbs like this a lot actually constantly reminding me its there. Am I imagining this pain or is it real?

Why do I love my scars?

im 15 depressed and anxious girl. Been cutting since last month, now I have more than 10 cuts. I don't cut for attention it's like people say, people do it to show how much pain their going through. That and cutting for attention has a lot of differences between them so I don't cut for attention. I don't appreciate sarcastic comments and answers thank you. So when I cut I love each and every one of my scars and wounds, it feels like they're my trophies that I'm still collecting, is it normal? When one fades I feel sad it's like one of my trophies has been stolen or something. When I look at my scars before cutting I feel happy about how many scars I have and I'll have one more very soon, I get that feeling. Is it normal and I'm addicted to cutting? Thank you.

You will have a life-long scar regardless of how lightly it is done. The amount of scarring and bleeding depends on a few factors in addition to intensity, taking care of your cuts (not picking at scabs, applying scar screams, keeping them out of sun) plays a huge roll in reducing the level of scar formation and the time of the healing process.Side note, using scissors is a crappy idea, when you decide to re-evaluate how you treat yourself there is a chance you will have to remove scissors from your house if they become one of your preferred self-harming tools. Speaking from experience… I have had to use kiddy scissors for everything the past two years (and probably for many years to come) and it sucks.

My self harm scars itch and hurt??(six months healed) they are also raised scars?

I cut deeply. Never had stitches. Never been hospitalized because I was good at keeping them hidden secrets.
But, I'm recovered(still get thoughts to do it badly) for six months about. They always hurt, they are sensitive, raised, they switch from red to purple to almost black at times. They are very noticeable. They all don't itch and hurt. Only the raised ones. I have four flat scars, two raised very VERY bit(like the tiniest raised) and then two huge raised scars...all on my right forearm(wrist area).
Why do they itch and hurt? Are they infected?

Haters will be ignored greatly :)

Cutting will generally always hurt no matter the blade or depth of the cut.The blade you’re using will make a difference though. In my experience, using a blunter blade will hurt more, whereas using one sharper will decrease the chances of pain, but consequentially increase the amount of blood.I don’t want to be the person who tells you to stop cutting/self-harming when you’ve already been told a dozen times. You should know it’s not condoned.I hope you stop self-harming and get the help you need!
