Why Does My Speedometer On My Mini Act Up

Why does my engine RPM increase downhill?

Going to take a moment to talk about standard transmissions before automatics....The engine of a car is physically linked to the wheels via the transmission.  Normally, feeding fuel into the engine forces it to run faster, sending power through the transmission to the wheels, forcing them to turn faster.  When going downhill, gravity accelerates your car, driving the wheels faster, which in turn drives the engine faster.  This is independent of the throttle, as you can have your foot all the way off the pedal.  When doing this, you are essentially cycling air through the motor, with little to no fuel burning.  This is called engine braking - where you let the friction involved in spinning the engine slow the spinning of the wheels. And on to automatics...and I've heard of this in particular with Honda / Acura vehicles...Most cars with an automatic transmission will not engine brake when in Drive (vs Low or 2, etc.).  Hondas have a Grade Logic system, which forces engine braking when you come completely off the throttle while going downhill.  The idea is that you won't have to ride your brakes to maintain steady speed and control, but the downside is that you don't get the acceleration from gravity that you would normally expect.  When you blip the throttle or apply just a little pressure, it switches back off.

What are the symptoms of a bad transmission speed sensor?

On some vehicles, there are sensors that function specifically for certain parts of the vehicle. Sometimes a bad speed sensor will mess up the function of the ABS brakes (causing them to overreact or not kick in at all, which usually creates a light on the dash), other times it can cause erratic speedometer readings and/or (for auto transmissions) cause inconsistent shifts and it shifting completely out of gear into neutral at random. Some vehicles it will do all of these things at once, but you should get a CEL (check engine light) or ABS light to show up on the dash if one of these things are becoming problematic enough to cause issues.

Why is driving so hard?

You are just like me!
I'm 18 too ,but I am now good at driving.
I know it is so hard at first, especially if you are nervous.
I cried a lot while I was getting yelled at by my dad for being a bad driver.
I even hit a bush. (thank god it wasn't a tree)
The first thing you must do is RELAX.
If you don't relax no matter what you do you'll be stressed.
I suggest you to practice just going back and fort in the parking lot first where there is nothing that can harm you. (don't do is when people are driving there do it when there are almost no cars)
Then practice turing both left and right.
Practice breaking for emergency, try to make a mark where you want to stop and try to stop at that mark.
Then try to drive backward... (I don't know why ,but it helped me. It helps looking around better.)
Also, just sit in your car and practice looking side ways back and everything.
I had to practice those things to be natural at it.
These are really basic and I had to do these for weeks before I got on to the actual roads.
Then you just get in the most country side road and drive anywhere and I mean any where just drive stright. (but don't get lost)
I get that you can't "calm down" ,but that is the only way.
I don't know what kind of car you are practicing with ,but if you are driving a big car then borrow a smaller car from your parents or grandparents.
I started with a mini van and when I drove a smaller car, I was like why did my dad bought a mini van! Smaller car = easy ,but they say learing with bigger car makes you a better driver later.
Also, some people perfer bigger car when they can see a full view like my aunt and my dad.
While I perfer small car ,but that doesn't always mean you see better with bigger cars.
I can see much better with smaller cars.
Well good luck!!! Anyone can drive when they get used to it

Do I need to have a key buried in my ignition when I have my remote start installed?

I'm having a remote start installed in my wife's van tomorrow and it just dawned on me that while I called around for prices, Best Buy told me I had to have a key "buried" in my ignition, presumably so the code on the chip in the key could be read so it would work with the remote start. However they are the only ones to tell me this, but I only have one key to the van, so I kinda need to know. I'll ask them myself when I go to drop it off, I'm just hoping someone can clarify this so I know ahead of time. The start will be installed in a 2004 Ford Freestar mini-van. Thanks in advance for the help.

Can a faulty speed sensor cause other problems in your vehicle?

Speed sensor is only for speedometer in old car's .The ECT electronic controlled transmission is integrated with VSC vehicle speed sensor ……sp 1 and sp 2. Malfunction of speed sensor can trigger engine check light ,vsc light ,abnormal gear change. If engaged in high gears can burn clutch linings. The trouble indicating codes can be p0500.

How will bigger tires affect my car?

I'm thinking of increasing my tire diameter, same wheels, but bigger tires. This is on an 04 mini van with awd. I'm thinking of going up about 1 inch. Assuming bigger tires will fit without rubbing, how will this affect my ride, safety, and mpg? Also how expensive is it to get my speedometer and odometer recalibrated?
