Why Does The Post Office Ask If You Want Tracking Then Add It Anyway

Can you pick up a package at the post office before it's scheduled to be delivered?

Yes, at my office people do it all the time. We are a small office in a rural area & how it works in my office is we receive packages transferred from both Fedex & UPS midmorning-afternoon after the carriers have already left for their routes. So, these packages are scheduled to be delivered the next day, but if you are following your package’s tracking information it would update with a message to the effect of “Arrived at local PO for delivery”. Often once people see that message they come in & pick it up so they don't have wait for individual delivery the next day. Also, people track their parcels through the PO & sometimes come in at 9 (when we open) & pick up their package instead of waiting. Most of the time this is no big deal & as a carrier I appreciate having a few less packages to handle, but when we're busy (around the holidays) & people call repeatedly & bother the already harried clerks to locate their package among the hundreds stacked around, it is more than a little annoying. Usually I'm okay with accommodating impatience, packages are fun to get even if it's just laundry detergent & paper towels!Edit: I was told, based on this answer I’ve never worked at the post office. Please, tell me what I’ve been doing the last 6+ years? And yes there are (at times) parcels stacked all over the workroom floor, we are located in a small rented building—in a town of 1,200 people.Ignore the random donuts censoring my coworkers. There were, indeed parcels stacked all over. Plus, I was essentially boxed in my case.I’m just irritated enough here’s a pic of my badge. It says Seattle on it, because I’m in the Seattle district. I covered the barcode on the side because it’s used to set up my scanner each morning and I don’t exactly want that info out there. Oh and for good measure, notice I’m in my right hand drive Jeep:

Isn't the post office supposed to scan in a package when you drop it off even if it's "pre paid" online?

I'm a letter carrier, so I can't answer definitively about what the window clerks are supposed to do. But I wouldn't worry about it.

Why?

Because, in addition to the entry point scans - which may indeed be obviated by the fact that you've done the postage electronically - parcels are scanned once they arrive at the distribution center from the facility where they were dropped off. They are scanned again upon leaving the distribution center. I don't know how international shipments are handled, but I assume that they are scanned once more before going on the plane. What happens overseas is anyone's guess; it's different everywhere. But there's always the final scan. That final scan can always be blown by the delivery person, and sometimes it does, but there will be other scans along the way to let you know the progress.

One other thing: Ordinary Priority packages are not trackable, therefore, there is no scanning done. Only domestic delivery confirmation items, and all items requiring signature, have scannable tracking numbers. These are extra-fee services. If you don't buy them, there's no tracking. You didn't mention any of these services in your question.

Response to your edit: I repeat, you said nothing about purchasing an extra-fee option which would provide tracking. International Priority, by itself, is not trackable, and is not scanned. For international shipments, you can add Registered service, or send it EMS, both of which require signature at the delivery point, and have tracking.

I am a letter carrier. We do NOT scan packages into the system. We only scan items at the time of delivery, and enter a code for delivered, attempted, refused, or undeliverable as addressed.

We DO scan a sheet of paper with a bar code on it when picking up packages at a residence or business, upon customer request. We note on the sheet how many we picked up, or if the items were not picked up (and why not). A copy is left with the customer, and another is returned to the supervisor. BUT...this is NOT scanning of the packages. Only packages with tracking barcodes are scanned, and that is done by the receiving clerk after we bring them in. No barcode, no tracking service bought and paid for...no scanning.

USPS - tracking says package delivered but I didn't receive anything?

Wait because it could say delivered but the delivery man might of not gottan around to your place. It is probably at which ever post office is nearest to you and probably you will receive it tomorrow or monday since it's a work day.

How can I find out my tracking number for USPS if the sender lost the tracking number?

This probably has been covered, but it would be really odd not to be able to recover a ‘lost’ USPS tracking number if it existed. Note lots of mail is sent without a tracking number. You have to pay extra or be using a class of shipping that includes tracking. I would be real suspicious if I’d inquired with a vendor, about an overdue parcel, only to be told that the tracking number was ‘lost’.We commonly use USPS and it is an on-line process whether you do it from the post office, work or home. The tracking number is on the receipt from the post office and is on the shipper’s “history” on-line. Additionally an email is sent to the shipper with all the order details - including the tracking number as a hot-link. A shipper need only log onto their account with USPS.com, enter their credentials and go to their shipping history page if the email confirmation was deleted.

How do you track a US priority mail package without a tracking number?

If you were the sender, it would be paramount for you to leave the PO with the tracking number in your possession. One answer said that all priority mail has a tracking number. That is true in my experience. If you went to the postal window with a package that you had pre-addressed, they would weigh it and charge you the postage. They would ALSO apply a sticker with a tracking number to the package. This may be true even if it is NOT sent via Priority. Generally, they should offer you a receipt with this tracking number on it. If you were the addressee and have not received the package, check with the sender. Some catalog/online companies make it a point of “making good” on these cases by sending a duplicate order and making sure you receive a tracking number. If the sender has repeated difficulties sending to a specific area, they may modify their practice and INSURE the shipment. That gives the recipient (who would pay a larger postage amount) some protections, but there would still be a few “hoops to jump through” to receive your item or compensation. If it was ordered online, you would generally expect to receive tracking information from the sender.Almost all of these postal questions would best be answered in a conversation format, so the person doing the answering could ask clarifying questions to better hone in on the best answer. There are a lot of permutations to these shipping questions.

Can I track the mailman?

Not unless you put a tracker on him. You need to learn to be patient. If you're not home when a package comes the mail man can leave your package on your porch or you can pick it up at the post office yourself.

Is there any way to track a USPS priority package if you lost the tracking number?

Hi, if you lost your tracking number, i can hardly say there is any other way to track your packages. However, this article may shed some light on this How To Track A Parcel Without A Tracking Number.

Ordered an item from China, USPS tracking still says pre-shipment?

Hi, I ordered two items from China, and the first item was tracked basically through it's entire process. I also received it in a timely manner.
However, the tracking information for my second item has said "processed through sort facility" in China on November 9th. Then it says "origin post is preparing shipment", and that's it.
It hasn't changed for over a week and I'm getting a bit worried about this item... Probably because the other one came right on time and was tracked!
Just wondering if anyone had the same problem, but their package was delivered anyway? I don't order things online often so I'm not sure if this is normal or not.

I want to enlist in the army?

This is an official US Army Manuel for Medical Standards of Fitness from Army.mil website: http://www.army.mil/usapa/epubs/pdf/r40_...
This is what it says about your condition:

2–11. Miscellaneous conditions of the extremities
a. Current or history of chondromalacia (717.7), including, but not limited to chronic patello-femoral pain syndrome and retro-patellar pain syndrome, chronic osteoarthritis (715.3) or traumatic arthritis (716.1) is disqualifying.

It appears to be disqualifying but they usually have waivers at MEPS if it's not bothering you anymore. However, if you need any prescription medication in order to live in recruit training or if it's still hurting, you won't be allowed to enlist at MEPS. The MEPS government doctors, medics, and Corpsmen do a serious check up on potential recruits at MEPS. You should seriously listen to mingling and Bob's post. I went through Marine bootcamp but Army basic training is probably also non-stop physical activity where you'll be standing a lot in the position of attention, a lot of running, and marching. Talk to your recruiters about it. And if you go to MEPS, talk to the MEPS doctors, medics and Corpsmen about it also. Don't lie about it because if you get injured in basic training or they do background check while you're there and they found out that you didn't reveal about your knee problem at MEPS, you'll get kicked out of the military for "Fraudulent Enlistment" which could effect some of your future job choices. Specifically if you want to work for the government like US Post Office, US Border Patrol, or Secret Service. If you don't get accepted at MEPS, go on with your civilian life and go to college or a voactional school. Not every can join the military and the military is not for everyone. Good luck!

Selling problems, buyer wants money back, GunBroker?

i would tell them i'm not refunding anything until the gun shows up. when it gets to his place, if he is still sore about it, he can send it back, when you get it back, send him his money. chances are he is just upset about it, and when it shows up he will be fine.

dont give him a dime until your gun comes back. it also wouldnt hurt to tell him that you cussed out the FFL for his incompetency. after all the FFL screwed up, you guys should both be complaining about him.
