Is the beating of students in Indian schools legal?

I got slapped by a teacher in 8th class, because some people who didn’t like me told her that I called her crazy. I thought my jaw got dislocated. Moreover, my class teacher yelled at me. It was illegal. I'm not going to write laws but yes, if your parents go to someone in a position of authority and complain - preferably aggressively - she's likely to face consequences. And it was a light slap this time, if teachers like that are not checked, they can get more violent with other students. You do not have to "get used to it" as people here would say. You go to school to learn, not to get battered. You can tell your teacher exactly how many ways she can be legally punished if you or some other student were to complain. Many teachers take out their own frustrations on students, physically as well as mentally.Anonymity : Your parents can request your headmistress or principal to be discrete, but your teacher might let it slip during gossip or something.I can understand not wanting to be the one to get her fired or arrested, but teachers are not supposed to be violent. If your fellow students tell you that it's no big deal, you need to point out that accepting oppression and violence at a young age makes you more likely to take unjust treatment as an adult.Update: So, as it turns out, a teacher “disciplining” students isn’t illegal. At least, it isn’t criminal (according to some case laws). Yet. However, I still maintain that disciplining should be left to the parents. Mine said,”Did you really do that?” My brother accepted that it was irrelevant. Depending on where you are and how much harm was done (and whether your parents are on your side), the teacher could face anything from a termination to criminal proceedings (only in cases where severe damage is done, not for the little whack on your head you get after making a smart comment.) Remember, quoting a section of the IPC should be sufficient to shut her up. Even sending anonymous letter to the school authorities should work. If you’re gonna do that, do it after someone else gets punished, so they don’t immediately suspect you. And have someone else write the complaint (or print it out). You can do a lot, but it’s very likely to highlight you as a deviant or miscreant and mess up your internal marks.Personally, I let it go. I treated her with respect afterwards and 2 years later, I found out that her son had some medical problem. I was really glad I didn’t do anything drastic.

Seasoned teachers: I need help managing a VERY LOUD 1st grade class!!!?

Here's a few ideas to try:
1. When they are too loud and getting out of control, get everyone on their feet and moving for about ten minutes. Do jumping jacks, run in place march around the room, etc. Just keep moving for ten minutes straight. Then have them sit down and breathe deeply with you. Hold up one hand and say deep breath in and don't breathe out until I have five fingers up. Hold up one finger at a time, about one per second, then breathe out through your mouth, blowing the air out with a whooshing sound. Repeat about four times, then smile and say that was wonderful! Now I'd like you all to... (whatever the next lesson is).

2. Establish a set routine and stick to it. Young children function better when they understand exactly what comes next.

3. Vary your voice level. Read a story, and make sure your voice drops down very quietly at times, almost a whisper. It will encourage them to focus so they can hear what happens next.

4. Teach them a variety of fingerplays, and when they are standing in line, do quiet fingerplays with them to keep them occupied.

5. "Catch" kids being good and reward them. Say Wow! I just love the way John and Mary are so listening and paying attention! And give them a reward certificate or note to mom telling her what a great job they did.

6. It might help to have a Relaxation Time as part of your daily schedule. Play quiet music, teach a Yoga exercise, pass out a feather to each child to play with, sit in a circle and ask each child to say something they like about themselves. You might want to purchase the Indigo Dreams CD and play a story from it sometimes for Relaxation Time. Explain to the children that We are learning to control our bodies and to relax our minds and bodies because we will learn better when we're relaxed.

7. Some kids are visual more than auditory, so you might want to try a visual signal such as lights out in addition to the whistle or bell signal.

I am a teacher and I am not sure what to do..please help?

Hi I am currently teaching Middle School at a charter school. I have a group of girls that were trying to spread rumors about me being a "pedophile". The administration was supportive initially. However a friend of mine who teaches another subject was having a discussion yesterday with his class about things that happened during the week. A student in front of the class proclaimed I was a "pedophile". Another female student supported this claim. While a few male students came in my defense. I am really upset about this. It is a small school and I am the only teacher for the two subjects I teach for this grade. My grandfather is a lawyer and said I may need to file a defamation suit if this does not come to an end. I hate this school. I really hate my job. I am leaving at the end of the school year. However I wonder if I have grounds to resign early. I am about to call the principal on her cell. I just am desperate for any help or wisdom. The four female students who started these rumors a month ago submitted letters with the first accusation. However two of them admitted it was a lie. They basically are out to get me because they think I am mean and do not like my class. It pissed me off that they did not get suspended for it. They were just threatened with arrest and expulsion basically. I told the principal I thought it may happen again. Now I have friends of theirs calling me pedophile. Please help me....
I am desperate for wisdom I don't know what to do. Thank you so much for your time.
