Why Has My Ankle Been Hurting-over A Year

Sprained Ankle Still Hurts 2+ years later?

I believe that your ankle sprain did not heal properly. Since you are doing a lot of sport, I believe you are only agitating the injury further or you have since re injured the ankle. You really need to treat your ankle properly by using ice for any swelling for 15 to 20 minutes three to four times a day. Wrap an Ace bandage or an ankle brace around your ankle for support. Elevate your ankle while you are sitting down or lying in bed. Try to keep as much weight off of the ankle as possible. If you keep having a lot of problems while you are walking, you may need to use crutches. You really should be taking it easy right now and let your ankle heal so you do not have problems for the rest of your life. I also agree with the above post about physical therapy. PT could help strengthen your ankle and keep you from injuring yourself further.

My ankle has been hurting for a year now! Help!?

I hurt my ankle in January. I was in gymnastics and they had the vault facing the wall. I was doing a handstand flatback and I vaulted too far and my feet hit the wall. So I have been to about 7 doctors. So far, I have been diagnosed with 1) ankle sprain 2) severe ankle sprain 3) flat feet 4) bone contusion (bone bruise, closest thing to a fracture) and now 5) plantar fascia. I am having orthopedic shoes/ insoles (idk what they are) and it is hurting so bad that every night, I practically cry myself to sleep.
HHHEEEELLLLPPPPPP!!!!

My left ankle, that I sprained over 2 years ago, still hurts in the cold. What could be the reason for this?

My right ankle that I sprained in 1978 still hurts in the cold. The reason is that I sprained my ankle, badly, and didn’t get any real rehab for it.You could look for a physical therapist or equivalent and get a program of rehabilitation. You could consult a doctor to learn if there is any damage beyond a simple sprain that might not have healed on its own.Or you could accept that you have an ankle that hurts in the cold because you sprained it and didn’t get adequate rehab at the time.

How can I fully recover from an ankle sprain from over a year ago that is still lingering and doesn't feel 100% healed?

See an orthopedist and share your concernsConsider reducing your sports activities. Sometimes people have to give up certain sports (=basketball, for ex) permanently after an ankle injuryIt doesn’t sound like you’re overweight, but if you are, lose weightMy experience: I had a severe ankle sprain (fell down some stairs, landed with the ankle twisted under me). I was very, very careful with it while it healed. After a year I thought, Well, it’s not 100% but it’s good enough. Maybe 90–95%. I’m in my 40s, I’m overweight, I’m lucky to have made this good a recovery. I’ll be okay. Then I got on the balance board. Worked up to 2 to 3 minutes/day just trying to hold my balance on a very wobbly board. I felt like it returned to 100% within a month of doing this. It was like magic; the whole ankle seemed to tighten up and become alert again. It feels completely normal now, but I’m not someone who engages in cut-and-run sports. Also: a PT I was seeing for something else tested my ankle and said there’s still a little more give in the joint on that side. So although it feels 100% to me, it’s not quite the same as the un-injured side.

Sprained ankle still hurts after 7 months?

i had the same deal. not sure if you had shots of steriods and the other injection they give you for the pain. its been over a year now since ive worked. they said it was a sprain n to go back to work after a few weeks but it still hurt. it finally hurt so bad i had to go to a specialist and what it came down to was me being on it, i did more damage to it and had surgery to tighten legament n tetdens. that surgery didnt event work. i have nerve damage now to from working on it and from the injections i recieved. the injections killed the tissue around my nerve in my ankle and exposed my nerve. i say see a specialist right away and dont let them give you the shots in your ankle..good luck and i hope what happened to me doesnt happen to you...have it checked right away..its been to long for it 2 still be hurting

Year old sprained ankle still hurts expecially in the cold?

Tendons and ligaments can take a long time to heal. Be mindful in your activities because you are still healing. RICE: Rest, Ice, Compression and Elevation is standard treatment. This far out from original incident means you may consider seeing a specialist, which your GP can refer you to.

However, as a long-time athlete and now an RN, the only advanced therapies which come to mind are electrical stimulation. Not using the injured area for the next 6 months is probably what any specialist charging $400 will tell you.

Aleve or naproxen, taken with food or tums to buffer stomach while it's passing through, may help.

How do I get rid of pain in my ankle, which got fractured 2 years ago?

Cause of pain could be:Some bone has joined slightly misaligned and the weight bearing line is now passing through non weight bearing surfaces leading to pain. Some kind of screw/ implant put for fracture healing, causing pain now.Ligament damage during fracture and the damaged ligaments now unable to support and butress the joint which is bearing your entire weight. For the first and third, an ankle binder might help.

I sprained my ankle and it has been months but it still hurts when it's in some positions, what can I do?

Sprains take a lot longer to heal than breaks do, because there is poor blood supply to tendons and ligaments which are what is damaged in a sprain. It can take over a year to heal fully. You can check with your doctor and see if you should be splinting it or having physical therapy for it.

How do I get rid of excruciating post-surgery ankle pain when it has been over a year already?

It’s a bit unusual to have severe pain one year post surgery. Will need to go through your x ray to see if there is any implant penetration in your joint. Or if there is any unhealed component of fracture or a loose body on ankle joint. One reason of excessive pain is reflex sympathetic dystrophy, in which excessive immobilisation can give rise to hypersensitivity to pain. Please share your x rays tobhave more clarification
