Is my baby bearded dragon fat?
No, his weight looks okay. The real concern with superworms and mealworms is that they have a LOT of chitin. Baby bearded dragons have a digestive tract that winds perilously close to their spinal cord. Oversized prey or lots of chitinous prey can create a lump moving through the intestines which can damage their spinal cord and even cause permanent paralysis of the hind limbs - so it's very dangerous to feed insects larger than the space between the bearded dragon's eyes, or too many insects with a lot of strong chitin at once. Baby bearded dragons eat insects at least twice a day, in addition to a mixed green salad (there are plenty of instructions on which greens can be used - no lettuce or spinach). Their incredibly high metabolism and super fast growth rate means that proper nutrition is absolutely essential - proper UVB light and calcium supplements, sufficient insect meals and greens are needed for them to grow properly. They will not get fat. That's an issue you have to watch for in adult beardies, but not fast-growing babies.
Can bearded dragons overeat and get fat?
I read a while ago that bearded dragons don't over eat. They eat until their full., then they stop. I'm just curious . I feel like my beardie got a little chub going on. She's plenty active but i may need to cut back on the wormies? she frequently finishes her food up but sometimes she won't eat at all or she'll only eat a bit. dunno.
Why did my bearded dragon suddenly get fat?
How sudden? If within a week and hasn't pooped, could be impacted (life threatening). If she is just hitting a growth spurt, that is normal, and she can shed once a month if in a growth spurt. Why she didn't grow for a year worries me though, unless she is an adult. Is the cage warm enough, but not too warm , with a basking light? Has it been hotter than normal the past two months? Has she been eating more? How old is she? We need a lot more info.
Bearded Dragon Feels and looks fat/bloated?
Ok, most of you will think that he's impact after that description but he just pooped earlier today so I know he's not impacted. He's not mad as he's walking around just fine but he looks and feels fat. Any ideas?
My bearded dragon is small?
You are right and normally they are bigger but it really depends on what kind of breeding stock that she came from. In other words both parents could have been small and if that is the case there is not much you can do about it. The kale and carrots should not be an everyday food. Please look at my list and maybe you can get some ideas from it. If I can help my email is open. Oh Hi Seth, I think I remember emailing with you. How do I get my bearded dragon to lose weight?
You don't say how much food she's eating now....however reduce her food intake by 1/3. Also, get her food items she'll have to chase like crickets, and make sure they're gut loaded. This way, she has to chase her food. Get a lizard leash and let her roam around as much as possible. Make sure her cage has things to climb on. More veggies, fewer insects is best. Get a sun cage and sun/exercise her in the cage out in natural sunlight. Most bearded dragons, when exposed to natural sunlight get excited and more active. Be sure you don't have her in direct sunlight.
Am I overfeeding my bearded dragon?
Try giving him some more excercise, like let him run around and run for his crickets. That's what I do with mine, he has to catch the cricket if he wants to eat it, just like the wild. Try that with his normal eating habits, though it all really depends on the metabolism for him, every beardie has a different metabolism . If that doesn't work then I would lower down on the eating and reduce his cricket to maybe 5 and feed him two-three times a day. In the morning give him the veggies, when 12:00pm comes around feed him the five crickets, at 6:00pm feed him veggies again.
