Hey Katie. I'm a medic so I thought I would throw some tips your way for your BF. Genital burns are usually considered more severe due to the pain. I might would decide differently if I had to visually assess the problem but from what you described which sounds like a 1st degree burn, I dont think it's anything you both should freak over. So here's the tips.. - You can apply Aloe Vera or a Hydrocortisone cream which would be best (can be found at Walmart or a pharmacy) to help reduce inflammation and itching. - 800mg of Ibuprofen to help with pain and it's also an anti-inflammatory drug itself. - Allow as much air to it as possible and stick to cotton based boxers for something breathable and non-restrictive. - Lay off on the tanning completely until it's healed. Simply because you don't want any chance of more exposure to worsen the problem. - A home remedy that might help -- Have him apply a washcloth over it soaked with cool (not cold) milk. It will help with the pain as well. I know that might sound strange but it does help with sunburns. No matter what anyone says, DO NOT apply butter as a home remedy treatment. There are some people that might tell you to do that. It acts like a catalyst to the burn and irritates the skin further. If you haven't already, think of butter on a hot pan and that will give you an idea of why not to use it...lol. If this doesn't help or it worsens in 2-3 days then tell him to drop his pride and see a doctor. It can get infected but I don't believe you're to that point right now. Just follow the tips and if it worsens or doesn't get any better with pain and/or in color then ahead to the doctor. I hope this helps you and your BF out.

If I leave an object drop in a moving vehicle, why won't it land at a more backwards point, since while it was dropping the vehicle kept on moving?
This is a problem of reference frames! While the car is travelling at 100km/h, the object you drop is also travelling at 100km/h as the car has accelerated you, and the object you are going to drop to the same speed. Ie. you, the object, and the cars interior are all at rest in the reference frame of the car. Therefore if you drop the object, it has no translational velocity in your reference frame, and appears to fall straight down. If you were to cut out the side of the car, and observe this experiment standing still on the reference frame of the Earth, it would appear that the object would translate in the direction of the car, but would still land exactly below where you dropped it on the floor of the car. Now if you were to drop the object while accelerating the vehicle the object would land at a more backwards point. This is because after the object has been dropped, the car can no longer exert a force to accelerate the object along with the car. The object will experience no acceleration, whereas the car will feel acceleration. This will cause the object to no longer be at rest in the reference frame of the car, and it will travel with some accelerating velocity until it hits the ground of the car at some position back from where it was dropped.
