Look at Analogy for Evolution(http://imgur.com/gallery/oAnfA)  and tell me which letter is the "missing link" between red and blue.  That's how evolution works - gradual change so slight that you can't see it from generation to generation, or even from millennium to millennium (in most cases).  You can only see that at one time there was read and now there's blue, and if some of the letters between the first and last "fossilized" we still have huge gaps in the record.  (Only about 0.1% of species leave at least one fossil - the rest of the bones get eaten, crushed, rotted and otherwise destroyed.)We're not talking about a needle in a haystack, we're talking about a needle in a huge meadow filled with needlestacks - and you have to find a particular needle without knowing where the meadow is.We know that the fossils of early creatures that branched off from our common ancestor with the chimpanzee should be somewhere in Africa, but that's a lot of territory to cover.  And we can't just say "dig here", we have to wait until weathering exposes a fossil and be lucky enough to see it before it completely weathers out, falls to the ground and gets stepped on by hundreds of passing animals and is reduced to rock dust and tiny shards. Our ancestors lived in the vicinity of the Afar region of Ethiopia about 2.8-2.3 million years ago, and that the y lived in the area of (IIRC) the Congo about 4/2 million years ago.  (And in the Olduvai Gorge area about 3-4 million years ago.)  But they didn't leave us road maps, so finding a fossil of a transitional somewhere between 6 million year old ancestor and 100,000 year old modern human is more a matter of luck than anything else.  (The Hadar formation was discovered in 1972.  Almost 2 years later, Johansen found what looked like the end of a fossilized piece of shin bone sticking out of the rocks.  That's considered about as fast as the Wright brothers going from that first flight in Kittty Kawk to interstellar travel in a few years.  Some sites are worked over for decades before anything is found, and then it's part of a skull, or a toe bone, and that's all that's there. If anyone can invent a "dowsing rod" for anthropoid fossils, he'd win the Nobel prize.

I got a hack here :)I just ended up in the same situation where I shortened a URL and posted on social media and a couple of other places. But later after some time I realized, that the bitly is landing to a 404 page because in the destination URL there was a Slash /’ missing between the word signup and registeruser in my URL. (refer the below screenshot)Now, I can’t roll back my social media post or edit them. So, I logged in to Bitly to see if I can do some workaround to get this done. While the default product doesn’t support this, but I got some hack to get this done. The hack is simple- Edit your current Bitly URL (e.g. in my case it was - http://bit.ly/2sUgbDT) to http://bit.ly/2sUgbDT_OLDI happened the word OLD at the end to remain on the safer side so that I should not lose any existing tracking data and Bitly should not throw any error if I create a new bitly link with the same keywork 2sUgbDT.Then I created a new Bitly URL for the correct destination URL. And, after creating the new Bitly link, I clicked on EDIT to customize the bitly to the existing keyword which was there in my OLD URL e.g. here it is 2sUgbDT.Here is the screenshot of how I customized:Hope this hack helps. Dan Touchette - not sure if you are still with Bitly , but a suggestion here- I think Bitly should give some option to edit in order to cover such valid use cases.Adding Mark Josephson - I hope this will add more value to your current stack.
