Why Is It A Double Standard To Watch Movies For Hours But Taboo To Play Video Games For Hours

Why do movies have no problem showing boobs but have such a problem showing penis?

Showing a penis for more than just a few seconds can easily earn a movie an NC-17 rating, which is considered a box office death, considering so many movie-goers are under 17.

A reasoning I've heard for such is that a penis is considered more "aggressive" than female nudity. A better, I think, reason may be in the types of movies you typically see extended female nudity, they're films targeted towards men. Movies with male nudity aren't necessarily those targeted towards women, though and they don't usually show male nudity in a sexual way.

You will notice, that, while movies may show the crotch area of a woman, you will rarely if ever actually see vagina.

What is the most misogynistic movie, video game, TV show you have ever seen?

Grand Theft Auto seriesIt pains me to say this as a lifelong player of the GTA games, but without question they are the most misogynistic pieces of popular entertainment that continue to endure. With very few exceptions, women exist in the GTA games as sex objects, irritating naggers or as people among the crowd that can be killed. Honestly, the women that work behind the counters at the in-game barber shops and clothing stores are more well developed and autonomous than any others. The writers behind the series will tell you that the series is made to show people at their absolute worst. The men in the franchise are depicted as violent barbarians. That’s fine as a statement, but at least those men are acting of their own freewill, rather than just plot objects or puppets like the women. It’s inexcusable that after 20 years and more than a dozen games, they’ve never included a playable female character or even a memorable female character.Saying women aren’t capable of the kind of behavior shown by the characters in GTA is sexist in its own right and is not an example of painting women in a more positive light than men, as GTA apologists would argue.Grand Theft Auto could truly be the greatest video game franchise ever created if the writers didn’t spend so much time thinking with their dicks. Satire only works if it feels like you’re actually critiquing the behavior you are supposedly lampooning, not if you reward the player for indulging in exactly the kind of behavior you’re supposedly making fun of.Cut the bullshit strip club lapdance mini games, add some male prostitutes into the mix, put in a memorable playable female and some new fans might pick up the series, making Rockstar and the Housers even more money than they already have.

Why do black people have weak ankles?

For his article, "An assessment of black is best', Kane assembled copious data and marshalled the support of medical scientists, coaches and sportsmen. The result is an argument organized in 3 categories, all of which connect the idea that sporting superiority is racially linked. This in itself of course, is highly problematic since the concept of race is regarded by contemporary social scientists as, at best, misleading, at worst, viciously destructive to understanding. The argument therefore ..................

Kane's first category of race linked physical and physiological characteristics........he dilineates them as follows: longer leg lengths, narrower hips, wider calf bones, and greater arm circumference among black atletes than white athletes, a greater amount of tendon to muscle among blacks, giving rise to the condition commonly termed double jointedness, a relatively dense bone structure, a basically elongated body structure among blacks, enabling them to function....

Any Mainstream Movies that show Female Genitalia? (tired of penises)?

The Watchmen doesn't count, that was a fake computer generated bluetube.

Female nudity has been far more common in mainstream movies for decades that's probably why more of the male variety has been shown recently. It has greater shock value- for example, in Sideways.

Before porn became a multi-billion dollar industry, unrated and softcore films of the 1970s and 1980s had more nudity than you could shake a blue radioactive stick it.

Mainstream movies:

Showgirls, Blue Velvet, Beter than Chocolate,The English Patient, Cold Mountain, Road Trip, Basic Instinct, Short Cuts, Half Moon Street, Holy Smoke, Betty Blue, Personal Best, Eyes Wide Shut, Quills, Species, Cider House Rules.

Here's an exhaustive list of sex in mainstream films (different thing, but may assist in your quest)

Why is there so much more female nudity in movies than male nudity?

The standard answer is to appeal to men, but there is more to it than people usually consider. First, a topless woman is considered nude, but a topless man is not. If you compare how often you see a topless man in a movie you will find it is far more often than women. People just react more to the women in this case.

The next thing is that there are some rules written restricting showing genitalia. Because of physiology it is much easier for a woman to be nude, and still not show her genitalia than it is for a man, for obvious reasons. Too much male nudity will bump the rating up and while an R rated movie will do alright, if it crosses in to X no major theater will carry it.

Of course there is also that a woman's form has a wider appeal than a man's, even among women. You do need to also consider the use of the nudity in the film though. In some films nudity is used to show vulnerability rather than sexuality. Men are seldom seen as vulnerable, even when nude, instead they are usually defenders or aggressors.

When this question is asked it is usually with the thought of commenting on a perceived discrimination on the part of the film makers, but it is driven to a large extent by both audience reaction, and rating/censorship rules.

How would you like to change the regulations? Less female nudity, or more male nudity? You can start a petition to change the laws, or campaign to change public opinion. Most people would not be in favor of adding more restrictions and it would be rather strange to require more male nudity in films. Perhaps removing the restrictions would allow things to balance out some, but it would take time for public perceptions to change and there is probably some of it that is in human instinct.

Why are movies allowed to show a penis but not a vagina?

Sorry Mark, but you are definitely off base on this one. The MPAA will allow a penis up close, for an extended period, in good lighting, and now semi-erect, (Hall Pass / Bruno) whereas the vulva, labia, clitoris, or vagina have been shown a grand total of ZERO times (unless you want to count the "did I see what I thought I just saw" moment of Sharon Stone in Basic Instinct or Rosario Dawson in Trance). If a female's pubic region is clean shaven she will be required to wear a merkin (pu**y wig) so as not to show any vulva cleft and get the dreaded NC-17. As for shaving throughout history, take a look at nearly all surviving art from the Roman and Greek empire days and you will find many nudes have no hair down there or a thin landing strip. The ancient Egyptians also practiced this. Goggle it. As for the "camera angle" play out this scene; a women seen from the back bends over to pick up a pencil...VOILA. There are thousands of ways for women to be exposed. I was an art major in college with a concentration on the human form. A model in the yoga position shows more than her knees. It's a shame there is such a fear of the vulva in American mainstream movies because there are times when it could be very effective. In the Crying Game, the main character was exposed as a man that the audience thought all along was a woman, when we saw his penis. In Boys Don't Cry, the main "male" character was discovered to be a female, and we see a side view of his/her thigh with a few pubic hairs exposed. Not nearly as dramatic. I could go on for a much longer time, but, as for myself, I think there should be a lot less penis in film I also feel it's time to start ditching the merkin on occasion. Any thoughts?

Why Sex and nudity is very much acceptable in Japan? & is it less tabooed than US & other Europe?

It is more open and accepted in Japan than America. You commonly see middle-aged Japanese men riding on the train with magazines showing teen age girls in bikinis and "love hotels" are a dime-a-dozen and in plain view. Yes, America has these things too, but it isn't openly conveyed in public. In America, you don't see 50-year old guys in public looking at soft-core porn mags, but in Japan it's a common sight. However, that said, I do agree that America is a bit too up-tight about showing nudity in films, yet violence is okay. It gives the message that violence is good, but sex & nudity is bad.
