Why Is It So Hard To Be Accepted And Make Friends On Staten Island

Why is it so hard for me to make friends?

This might sound sarcastic or silly but it's not. But perhaps you find it difficult to make friends BECAUSE you find it difficult to make friends. I'll tell you a story about me:For a long time I had no friends and I was all alone in this world. I connected with nobody not even family. All I had was God (but we'll leave my religious beliefs out of this because that's kind of a spicy subject). I wanted to have friends so bad but nothing I tried worked. Then I realized I was trying way too hard. I was nice to everyone, did favors for nothing in return for everyone, and in the end ended up becoming a doormat for nearly everyone around me. You see we live in a world where whoever cares the most loses. But there was a time when I hit rock bottom so hard I finally realized I couldn't go any lower and that's when it hit me. I had nothing to lose... at all! Why not be completely and utterly myself? I did and sure enough I was seen as weird by a lot of people but you know what? That caring the least thing really worked out because I remember during my last year of high school something my friend told me (that's right I said it friend). I don't know how it came up in the conversation but it did he said "Jordan, you're popular." I instantly denied it but then thought about it for a moment. A lot of people knew me and not only that I had no enemies, I was invited to my share of parties, plenty of girls liked me, and I had a reputation for being the "funny guy."If I kept trying to please everyone else and not myself I would've been nothing more than a pawn. Thing is I'm not one and neither are you! You've got a unique personality and when you decide to stop caring about the things that make you think you have a hard time making friends you'll appeal to people so much more. Don't try to act like everyone else. The world wants you to think that in order to be cool you have to dress like her or act like him or speak like them. You don't just be you because you have something unique to put on the table and maybe you won't attract everyone to you like a magnet but you'll attract every right person to you like a super-magnet. If you act and dress like celebrity A you'll attract friend meant for them not you.I hope this helped.

Why is it so hard to make friends on staten island and ny?

Well for starters why do you not join some groups that you will not be leaving, such as your local library. Libraries usually have reading clubs, book discussion groups, etc.

Volunteer. Join the volunteer group of a hospital, seniors' residence, charitable society/foundation, etc. Get on internet and google volunteer groups staten island. You will get to know a lot of people when you volunteer.

Google cycling groups staten island, scrabble groups staten island, board game groups staten island, badminton groups staten island, and on and on. Find a group that interests you. Stick with two or three of them and you will make friends. If you like sewing google quilting groups staten island.

You could volunteer at the local historical society.

Don't worry about yourself. You have just met some shallow people. People are so busy with their lives, even in small towns, that they barely have time to live. You might meet some people in the groups I mention, who have more time to spare.

Cheer up, girl! Things are going to perk up quickly for you!

Best wishes.

What is a staten island girl????

Think female Guido. Loud, obnoxious, 20- something party girls still living with their parents over some deli or under some overpass. Almost as bad as Jersey girls. Trust me, they are not rich, the majority of them are middle class uncouth girls with fake Louis Vuittons. I know these chicks well.

SHSAT RESULTS - 9th Grade. So I got into Staten Island Tech now, but should I go?

First of all, CONGRATULATIONS!!!

Okay, Staten Island Tech.

Think about it, Regualar highschool or specialized one?

You can always make NEW friends, and it's only ONE year of Japanese.

Besides, I know A LOT of people that want to go there, but didn't make it.

Just think about how lucky you are.

Do you want to go into Staten Island Tech or another school (and just drop this once in a lifetime chance event?)?

You decide, it's up to you.

Should I retake the SHSAT for 9th grade for Staten Island Tech?

Results came this Thursday. I had a 478 and got into Brooklyn Latin. I was crying the entire day, even though my guidance counselor and parents kept telling me that it's great that I got into a specialized high school even if it's not the one I wanted, because a lot of people didn't get into anything. I'm getting my score checked and reviewing the test with a DOE assessment specialist soon, and I was accepted into Wagner Scholars, which is where I am going. However, I still really love Staten Island Tech. I don't care about Stuyvesant or Bronx Science. Most of my friends are going to Staten Island Tech, and I was so close to the cutoff but still didn't make it.

When I approached the math portion of the SHSAT, I felt really sick and went to the bathroom and almost threw up. When I came back, there was only 45 minutes left and I had to finish the math questions, and guessed on almost half of them. But I was pretty sure I nailed the verbal, well, apparently not. :/

So is it worth it to take the SHSAT in freshman year? I don't know if I still want to go to Tech then, I might love my high school, but it's humiliating that so many of my classmates got into Tech yet I didn't.
