Why Is It That Liberals Prefer The Ambush Method Towards Debate And Would Never Choose A Town Hall

Why didn't the NRA want to partake in a televised debate, moderated by CNN, over gun control?

They have nothing to gain, so it’s that simple. They could go on the air and lose on many points, thus weakening themselves. They have no answer for the human behavior issue thatb underpins ALL killings and they can’t argue against emotions, which is what most anti-gun sentiment is based on, rather than facts. For instance if one looks at the FBI stats on gun deaths, 1/3 are suicides, the great majority are committed with pistols and only about 3% are committed with the ever assaulted assault styled weapons (they are not automatic weapons or actually assault weapons and must be illegally modified to make them so or to make them approach the automatic firing rates of real assault weapons.People forget that this nation was started by people overthrowing their own government to form the nation, and that the RIGHT to keep and bear arms, did not mean just rifles and pistols, but included cannons, etc. They forget that the 2nd Amendment is the ONLY right that protects your other rights.Free speech is nice, free press is nice and neither works when arms are used against you. Meanwhile, we approach a very similar circumstance in the US, as that of our founders, when we have government that taxes us without representing our wants and needs, supports corporate and wealthy and represents them very well, even to the detriment of average citizens, which we see again and again. That and the fact that law enforcement is out of control and serves ONLY the rich and corporate for all practical purposes, and all too often. Most of my life, I’ve noticed the slide into those same circumstances and in recent years, that slide has accelerated. Rights long taken for granted are now curtailed, as with right to privacy, right to timely jury trial, right not to be spied on by our government, right to free press and free speech, right to peaceably assemble, etc. The time appears to be coming when we will have to make the same stand and everyone will be GLAD we maintained the 2nd Amendment, though much infringed upon. And I’m a peace loving hippie type.

Why did Britain lose the American War of Independence/Revolutionary War?

The British were not yet an unstoppable empireSome ice, some desert, and a small slice of India     In 1776, the British were one of several Great Powers in Europe who were all roughly equal in power. These were them, France, Prussia, Austria, and Russia.  Below them were a few middle powers including Sweden, the Netherlands, Spain, and Portugal.  Out of these strong nations, the British were known for their naval prowess but had one of the weaker and smaller ground armies - France was the expert here.  As a result, when the 13 Colonies declared independence, the British were forced to ship soldiers 3,000 miles away and feed and supply them - no mean feat back then - to fight in an environment they were not experts in, ground wars.  So this explains why they had difficulty against just the colonists alone.  Now let's look at the international situation.     13 years before the Revolution, Britain and Prussia defeated France, Russia and Austria (there were also smaller allies on both sides) in the 7 Years' War.  In the aftermath, French colonies from North America to India were seized by the British, which upset the balance between the Great Powers, frightening much of Europe.  The British also spent a huge pile of money, which started them on the path of taxing the colonies which started the war in the first place.  As a result, when the 13 Colonies declared independence, France was eager for an opportunity to even the score with their rival.  Soon after the war began, France was bankrolling the American bid for independence. In the first year, France supplied enough muskets and uniforms for 30,000 soldiers (Larger than the initial size of the Continental Army) and 10 pounds of gunpowder per soldier.  Then, France joined in the war openly with a navy that was at the time, roughly equal to the British one.  They were eventually joined by the Spanish and Netherlands who brought even more money and soldiers to the table.tl;dr The British Army was never that strongIt was half of Europe and the USA vs Britain

Ben Shapiro has been criticized before for being a Gish Galloper. Is this true, or just an excuse to not take on his arguments?

Ben Shapiro definitely uses the Gish Gallop, and has in fact turned it into a fine art. But that is hardly the biggest problem with what he does. The main problem is that he is dishonest, petty, and smug about both of those things. He has no actual debating skills at all, and mainly gets by because his opponents also rarely do. He appears to triumph because in a debate where only one party is simultaneously rational and honest, the other side inevitably wins. His repertoire consists of logical fallacies painted over with rhetorical flourishes. If he were ever to step into a professionally moderated debate before a well-informed audience, he couldn’t lie through his teeth with impunity, and his cheap, dishonest tricks would be called out. Frankly, a school debate team would break him. But he possesses enough intelligence to never step into such an arena.Asking his opponents to “take on” his arguments implies that something of substance exits in his arguments that can be taken on. This is not the case. His favorite trick is to formulate his arguments to attack straw man versions of what he believes his opponent’s opinions are. This is only the most common tactic he uses. When he has nothing else left, he simply lies. That is crude, but effective before a friendly audience. A video of him debating could be used as a tutorial of how NOT to debate.I could go on about the racism, sexism, homophobia, pseudoscience, and other problematic issues, but those have nothing to do with his debating tactics. My final point is that one has plenty of issues to take with WHAT he says; thinking about HOW he says it is merely peripheral.EDIT:- There are a number of apologists for Shapiro who insist on defending him in the face of all evidence that he is a dishonest, bigoted, racist, xenophobic, small-minded imbecile who is proudly smug about being one. I am going to refrain from stating what exactly I think of these people since that will definitely earn me a BNBR violation. I am just going to leave this link here - The Cool Kid’s Philosopher | Current Affairs. It is a fairly succinct summary of Shapiro’s positions and statements through to the end of 2017. Kindly read it before telling me that he is not what I said he was in the first sentence of this paragraph.
