Why Is My 3 Months Old Saint Bernard Puppy Always Hungary

I just got my 8 week old Saint Bernard puppy. What and how much should I be feeding him? He weighs 25 lbs.?

You need to feed the pup what he has been getting for the time being. Sudden changes in diet can really upset his stomach. Whatever food you decide to give it must be introduced slowly. At this age I feed my pups four small meals a day. Then at four mos. I cut it back to three but slightly bigger at six- eight mos. I feed only two meals a day (of course with snacks) I always feed my Saints twice a day so they never get hungry enough to gulp. Bloat is a major concern. I also remove their water at least a half hour (an hour is better) before and after meals. I dont allow them to be too active at least a half hour before or after meals either. An adult Saint once fully grown will not eat anymore than a large dog. They tend to get lazy and dont burn as much energy. My Lab eats more than my Saints. I feed mine about two cups in the morning and two cups at night. Good Luck and feel free to email me if I can help. Oh and 25 pounds at eight weeks is huge. My male that is now 209 lbs was only 19 lbs at eight weeks and I thought that was VERY large. Good Luck with that.

I have an 8 month saint bernard and was wondering at what age to they quit growing?

saints tend to finish growing around 2-3yrs as they are a giant breed. The head will indefinate get large or "break" as they say,at 2.5yr.As for height a tip that was given to me to tell if my saint was still getting any taller was to look at his front legs and if you can clearly see his knees then he will grow taller.Hope this helps, and enjoy your lovely saint!

My puppy always seems hungry and goes insane for food, is this normal?

Daphne is a 13 week old F1 GoldenDoodle. We feed her 3 times a day normally, twice a day with 1 cup of dry food and once a day with a cup of pumpkin, boiled chicken and rice mixture. The people who we got her from recommended we give her 1/2 cup of dry food twice and some type of fresh mixture so we are already feeding her more than they recommended but she still seems like she is starving. She will eat everything and anything, she plots way to climb onto the table when there is food there and will try and knock it out of your hand when you are holding it. She is ravenous when she gets her food and will scarf her portion down and instantly and go try to get steal the food from the other dogs when we feed them all. We don't know how to stop her and nothing we tried has helped.

How much should my saint bernard puppy weigh?

His genetics will have the greatest impact. At what maturity rate did his parents grow and what is their adult weight. (as well as grandparents)

Large breed dogs grow a lot in height in the first year and then fill out slowly over the following year or two.

He sounds about right. Let him grow at his own rate, slower is better. You want to be able to feel his ribs. Long as he is healthy and eating fine then don't worry he will fill out in his own time.

How much do i feed my st bernard puppy?

Hi. I would feed her 2 cups three times a day. Are you feeding her Large breed Puppy food, or Large breed Adult dog food? One of my male Pups was hard to feed, if there was the slightest distraction while he was eating, he would stop to investigate then refuse to finish his meal, out of all my Saints he was the only one like this ever. I find that when feeding a St. pup it is best to take them out to potty and romp around a few minutes, BEFORE each meal, they seem to eat better & clean their bowls. Hope this helps ~ Please make sure if your feeding kibble, that it is Large Breed, very important for their growth! Take Care!

Hyper saint bernard question?

any dog should typically have at least 10 minuets of "high energy" play time. just like a person it takes 10 mins to get the hart going and when your done with your dog try to have a "cool down time" if you just stop playing they may get super tiered at first but an hour later be in your face ready to go. and if they just want to play all the time (like my dog) a specific time to play has helped a lot. they know schedule, and just like us they can depend on it.

all puppies should be energetic, if they are not there could be a problem. MAKE SURE YOU DON"T GET A PUPPY MILL PUP!!!

For how long can I leave my 2-month-old puppy home alone?

3 hours tops! The rule of thumb is age of the dog in months plus one. This rule is for an average to large dog. Small dogs can’t hold it that long most of the time.Crate: Someone told you really, really wrong. Learn that a crate is a “safe place” for animals that den. Dogs den. If you are doing it right, your dog should see that is HER safe place. There are dozens of articles on line and in magazines on how to crate your dog. Read them. who ever told you that you”shouldn’t let her in an enclosed crate” doesn’t merit your attention.Roaming around the house freely: would you leave a 4 year old child roam around the house freely? The dog will not be reliably house trained for months, perhaps as long as a year, depending on the breed. You can’t get pee out of shoes, or pillow, or sofas ….Back yard is fine IF you know that the dog will likely be stolen in a very few days and may only be resold or it may be used as a bait dog in a dog fighting ring. They don’t euthanize the bait dogs but just let them bleed out. Think about it.

HOW DO I KNO HOW MUCH TO FEED MY SAINT BERNARD PUPPY?

First of all turn off the caps lock key when you type a question. It makes it hard to read and comes across as yelling.

Second, how much does she weigh? My dog is listed up there with giant breeds and he eats 6 cups a day divided into two meals. It also depends upon what you are feeding her. Is it a higher quality food with no corn, wheat or soy? You generally have to feed less of these foods as they are not packed full of fillers. I think on a crappier brand of food my dog would be on something crazy like 11c of food a day as opposed to the 6c he is on now.

has she been tested for worms? This can also effect weight gain.

ETA: You get all this great, different advice and you choose to ignore it and focus on the fact that people asked you to not write in all caps in the future because it is annoying? Granted, some did it more nicely than others, but still...

I just bought a St. Bernard Puppy, 11 weeks old.?

With every puppy crate training is very important.

-You want to get a proper fit crate. I would recommend one that is for all life stages. So you can buy just one crate. You want him to be able to turn around, sit, stand and lay down.

You do not want to let him have any food or water in his crate. Also do NOT put the puppy pads in there as he will get confused.

You may give him a toy such as a Kong or a Natural bone. Stay away from rawhides as they are unhealthy for dogs and puppies.

He should only be in his crate when your not home or can not watch him closely.

The crate is NEVER to be used to punishment. It should be a happy and safe place that he wants to be in.

-You want to take him out as soon as you let him out of his crate or 15 mins after he eats or drinks.

Reward him when he goes outside! Give him a treat and lots of loven.

NEVER shove his face in his mess if he has an accident. Also NO HITTING it will make him aggressive.

Just use a strong WRONG or BAD BOY! Then take him right outside.

-Now for him not wanting to come in after he is done going potty. Have treats ready. Call him to come. Say his name and then come. If he does not answer you go closer to him and repeat until he comes to you. When he does say GOOD BOY! and give him praise.

-Now for feeding him you want to make sure he is on a healthy puppy food. Nothing that contains Corn, Wheat, Beef, By Products or Fillers. These ingredients are very unhealthy for the dogs and puppies and hard to digest. Some examples of bad food are Iams, Purina, Science Diet, BilJack, Kibbles and Bits and Alpo.

Good foods are Natures Recipe, Nutro Max, Lassie Natural Way and Royal Chain.

I personally recommend Natures Recipe as they have it for all life stages. Natures Recipe is all natural and is completely healthy and easy for your puppy to digest! It leads to a healthy body and shinny coat. Natures Recipe also cuts down on shedding, bad breath and the amount of stool they produce.

On the bag it will tell you how often and how much to feed him.

-NO HUMAN FOOD! Not a good thing to get him started on as it is unhealthy for dogs.

- I would also recommend training classes. St. Bernards can make wonderful pets if they are trained well at the right age.
