Why Is My Car Making This Clicking Noise

Why is my car making a clicking noise?

Heating and Air ConditioningA car's climate control systems include components that can can produce a clicking noise if they fail or require service. One of these components, the heater plenum, contains devices called blend doors that control the mix of cool air to warm air as the user switches the controls from one climate setting to another. These blend doors run on an electric actuator that can produce clicking noises when it fails. The air conditioner compressor may also make a soft clicking noise if its refrigerant supply has run low.Belts, Joints and SupportsMany of the support systems on a car can cause a clicking noise if they malfunction or wear out. Struts and shock absorbers include hydraulic dampening valves that will click or rattle if they lose their internal oil pressure. Worn CV (constant velocity) joints on the front axle can also make clicking or popping noises, Damaged CV joints make a pronounced clicking noise when accelerating or making sharp turns. Additionally, a loose serpentine belt can cause a clicking sound. Replacing the belt's tensioner can alleviate the problem.ElectricalLow voltage from the car's battery can lead to rapid clicking or ticking noises when the driver tries to start the car. As a battery ages it may lose its ability to deliver a consistent 12 volts of electricity to the starter. In this case, when the driver turns the ignition key, the starter turns itself on and off rapidly, resulting in a rapid succession of clicking sounds. The driver may have to replace either the battery or the alternator that supplies electrical charges to the battery. In short there are many reasons it could be doing that .Today's cars have complex systems with many components, many of which can cause a clicking, tapping or rattling noise when they start to fail. Drivers experiencing this unusual sound may have to let a mechanic examine the ignition, climate control, electrical, exhaust or other systems to track down the cause of the problem. Some clicking noises signal a simple replacement part, while others may warn of imminent engine failure. However I don't think anyone will be able to help you here without knowing a bit more information. Please tell us the vehicle in question . Make model year ? Also when does this clicking noise take place? Thank you and Good luck.

Why is my amp making a clicking noise?

Turning the sub off on the head unit will only prevent signals from being sent to the amplifier through the rcas. It won't cut the power to the amp. Typically you will wire the remote turn on wire running to the amp to the blue/white wire from the radio or to a switched 12 volt wire in the car (ignition, cig lighter etc...). When you say clicking noise is from the amp not the sub, are you saying that the amp is physically making a clicking noise and that no noise is coming out of the sub? Will the amp make the noise if you disconnect the sub from the amp? If you are blowing fuses you will want to check your ground point to the amp, make sure it is screwed to clean metal. Also make sure that your 12 volt power wire to the amp is not being pinched at any point. Make sure that the power wire, ground wire, and remote turn on don't have any frayed wires that are crossing over and blowing fuses when the radio turns on and sends 12 volts through the ground wire. Lastly check, or have someone check your subs, get a multimeter and check that the ohm resistance is normal.

Why is my car making a clicking noise but not starting?

This is a common problem that can happen to a lot of cars. And there’s 2 main problems that are related to when your car makes a clicking noise but doesn’t start.(1) Faulty starter. The starter helps with igniting the vehicle, so if you’ve ruled out that the battery is fine and the car still doesn’t start and it makes a clicking sound with the lights on, then it’s likely a faulty starter and you’ll need a starter replacement(2) Ignition switch. If you know your battery is working properly, but your car doesn’t turn over on the first few tries, you might have a problem with the ignition switch. You can try to narrow down the cause of your issue by turning on your headlights. This is because your car's battery controls your headlights and dashboard, and if it's the case that they turn on your engine isn't able to start start, then a bad ignition switch is the likely culprit.Hope that helps!

Why is my car making a loud ticking noise from the engine?

If it is a mechanical lifter camshaft, its probably just valvetrain clatter and the valves need adjustment. If its a hydraulic lifter cam, its probably valve train clatter, and you need to put oil in your engine as there isn't enough to keep the lifters pumped up. If its either type of cam shaft, with flat, non roller, lifters, you may have a camshaft that's going flat due to the lack of certain lubrication additives in today's motor oil. In which case you'd need to replace the cam and lifters and make sure to put an additive in with your oil at every oil change to prevent that from happening again. If its an overhead cam engine with a timing belt, its possible there's a bunch of slack in the timing belt, or the belt has jumped time, and the valves are hitting the pistons because the crank to valve timing is off. In which case you might need to have a leakdown test done to make sure you don't have bent valves or busted pistons. If you do then the cylinder heads need to come off and the valves replaced, or a whole rebuilt engine installed. If there isn't any internal damage, the timing belt still would need to be adjusted or replaced. Its possible it could be a bad connecting rod bearing, but that is usually more of a deeper knocking or thumping, and usually goes away after the car runs for a minute after startup, unless its really bad, then it should be a loud and obnoxious heavy knock. It could also just be a simple exhaust leak somewhere causing the clicking noise. But even that is not a complete list of everything that could cause a clicking noise. I have seen all kinds of things causing that type of noise, and without seeing and hearing your car first hand, there's no way to tell you exactly what it is. My suggestion to you would be to take it to a reputable repair facility and have it checked out. Almost all mechanical failures can be prevented with proper maintenance, and checking out unusual noises or behavior in a timely manner…

Why is my engine making a clicking noise while running?

# 1 do you honestly think someone can diagnose a noise over the internet ? You have to go to a Dr.’s office for diagnosis & you have to go to a professional for a professional opinion .# 2 there are MANY components inside the engine and under the hood of your car that can make noises . The faster you have this looked into , the less it can cost you . How long has it been doing this ? Have YOU checked the oil level ( and all fluid levels ) and when was the last oil change ?# 3 there are as many mechanical charlatans as religious charlatans . Find someone you can trust and stick with them .# 4 forums are a good place for information . They are not a good place to ask “ my house is on fire , what should I do ? “

Why does my car making a ticking noise when it's cold?

For weeks, my car has made a ticking noise when it's cold. Sometimes it's very loud, sometimes it's only quiet, but I haven't been able to have anyone listen because obviously the car is warm by the time I get to any mechanic.

The noise sounds a bit like something hitting the spokes of a bicycle wheel as it goes round.

Yesterday evening, the check engine light came on, and I very much suspect it is to do with what is causing the ticking but there's no way I can get to a mechanic for a while and I need to know if the car is safe to drive.

I drive a 1.2 Kia Rio btw.

My car is over-heating and the engine makes a clicking noise when I accelerate. What does this mean?

I have a 1997 Ford Probe with a 4-cylinder engine. Lately, I've been experiencing some overheating problems, but I have plenty of coolant in my car. When I accelerate, the engine makes a clicking noise. Also, when I check my oil, there is oil all over the dipstick, and when I unscrew the cap to add oil, a white smoke or gas comes out. I don't know if this is relevant, but I'm trying to offer up anything I can to help solve my problem.

I'm already expecting the worst, so if you are a mechanic or know one, I would greatly appreciate your help on deducing what, exactly, is wrong with my car. Thanks!

I drove my car through water, now it makes a loud clicking noise.?

There could be any of several things that may be going on.
1) Since you noticed your air filter is wet and the water was over your hood, you most likely sucked water into the engine and have some water in one (or possibly more) of your cylinders. The water will not come out on it's own and can damage an engine if trying to run it as water is not a compressable liquid and can create too much pressure inside the cylinder and probably the causing the clicking noise. Also, the water will wash out oil from lifters and bearings causing them not to work right and probably cause clicking sounds.
2) Water may have gotten into engine oil through vents and from water in the cylinders. This will cause corrosion and lack of proper lubrication, also, the water will wash out oil from lifters and bearings causing them not to work right and probably cause clicking sounds..
3) Water may have alos gotten into the transmission oil through vents and such and cause similar problems as the engine oil.

That's the best I can think of without seeing & hearing it and don't have any idea of the repair costs.

Best of luck.

Why does my jeep cherokee make a clicking noise in the engine?

it may be something simple, like an oil change. If not, you need to take it to have it repaired, before all that knocking blows the engine!

Why does my car make a clicking sound whenever making U-turns or fast turns?

Your CV joint/s are wearing out. It is a fairly difficult job but you can DIY or take it to a mechanic to fix. You may find it is only one, normally the non-drivers side and if not too bad you can sometimes just fix the rubber boot and re grease, but it is a big job so it is best to fit a set.
