What do I do if my car is leaking gas?
Why do all the smart asses seem to know nothing about cars? First before you drive it find out just where the leak is comming from. Is it just a loose fuel line, or a hole in the gas tank.Is the fuel pump leaking or is it something else. If thy( you dident say who) wants it moved then that is what it will have to do, Have it towed off the property to a safe place and have it fixed. If it one of the above I just mentioned then fix it yourself. NOTE: do not start the car just turn on the key. If it is fuel injucted( you dident say what kind of car it was) the pump will show you justy where the leak is. Owner of Dons Auto
My Car is leaking gas when I fill it up!?
You did not say what kind of car, but I had a truck that did the same thing. Mud that gets on the fuel tank sticks to it and the moisture from a wet road keeps re-wetting the mud. This wil cause a very localized corrosion and result in a little dimple with a pin hole in the bottom. I dropped the tank, after running it nearly empty so it wouldn't be too heavy, and used a two part putty made for gas tank leaks that is available in most auto part stores. After it hardened, I sanded the tank to remove loose rust, painted it with metal primer, and then applied undercoating that is available in aerosol cans at the auto parts places. The total cost was less than 10 bucks. Replacement of the tank is quite a bit. If this is a fuel injected engine the electric fuel pump is often mounted on the top of the tank. I saw one rust around the ring where the fuel pump was mounted. The tank had to be replaced because it was in such bad shape. It was between 300 and 400 dollars to have this done. Don't let this go too long. If the hole is very big, water, sand, dust, and dirt will get in and will hopefully clog the fuel filter instead of damaging your engine. Or if it is leaking and ignites, you will have more flames coming off of the back than an F-14 with full afterburners on.
Should I drive my car if it's leaking gas?
Short story: '98 Ford Taurus Filled my tank up to full Lost a quarter of a tank and only drove 6 miles. After a half a tank it was fine. Refilled my tank up to full. Now, its leaking bad. Propped the right side of my car up on the curb, it doesn't leak anymore. Until I put it back on a flat surface. So the question is, will it be able to drive 2 in a half hours on the expressway? I need to get back to school in one piece.
Why would I be smelling gas inside my car and the check engine light be on after being rear ended in my Nissan Cube?
Your gas tank has a series of vents to route fumes from the car back into the car’s gas tank instead of the air.If your system isn't leaking and you smell fuel really bad the issue is probably with those lines or your emissions system.Just leaving the gas cap off can switch on your check engine light so it would make sense especially after an accident. It's leaking vapor and pressure so it turns on the check engine light.I would double check the car for actual fuel leaks and get it repaired, if you do drive it keep the windows down… if the accident wasn't severe enough to make the car inoperable it could still be bad enough to cut one of those vapor lines or a connection to the tank.
Car leaking gasoline out the exhaust pipe?
I have a 2000 Pontiac grand am,2.4 l.4 cyl engine. well the car was running great until it blew the head gasket. I got the head gasket replaced when i started the car the huge cloud of white smoke from the gasket being blown was gone.also the rough idle . but now there is another problem now it is leaking raw fuel out of the exhaust pipe as well as small puffing clouds with a constant papapapapapapa puffing sound. the check engine light also came on. i purchases a scanner to get the code for the check engine light. But the scanner shows no codes for that problem the only ones i got were for the chassis DTCs system which were. c1215,c1221,c1236,c1246,c1257,c1265,c1... and a U1016(loss of communication with engine control module). please i need help figuring this out i have tried talking to several mechanics but they all say it is impossible for it to be gasoline.which is annoying since i am looking at it. it smells like gasoline and it ignites like gasoline. Gas leak from the front of my car?
I have a 1996 Honda Civic. I was driving when I realized that my gas was draining and that I smelled gas. I got out and saw a trail of gas from where I was driving. The gas lead up to the front left of my car, where it was dripping. The gas was leaking a lot, not just in drips. There was a clear trail of gas. I also just got a new gas tank so it coudn't be that.
