Why Is My Cat Meowing And Just Staring Out The Window All Day

Why is my cat meowing out the window? Should I be worried?

A couple of things...

Cats do make sounds without the need for human involvement, sometimes just as an automatic response to something. For example, if you stub your toe you say "ouch", whether or not someone is around it hear it. Another example, many cats will make meowing or "chittering" sounds when they see birds or squirrels - no matter if a person is around. Your cat is probably just talking to the things he sees outside (he may have also meowed at them when he was outside).

Pets, and cats in particular, have difficulty dealing with change. When you move to a new place it will take him a while to adapt to it. Since he also became an indoor-only cat at the same time, the change is more significant and will require more time. Sounds like you are doing all of the right things to make the new home safe and friendly for him, so just give him more time to get used to things.

It is WONDERFUL that you have made him indoor-only! It keeps him safer (from fights, cars, diseases, etc), extends his life span significantly and greatly lessens your costs for health care. I have taken in many stray or feral cats over the years, and they have all been able to adapt to only being inside. It is not unusual for such cats to try to go outside when you open your front door - they are used to doing it and they are naturally curious creatures. If yours tries to go out, just gently push him back and say no. After a while of doing this he will probably stop trying.

As far as toys go, you may want to try a few interactive things. He was probably used to stalking or chasing moving things when he was outside, so he might like toys that move. My cats love chasing a laser light and sticks that have a string & feathers attached. Both of these types of toys are available at pet stores at relatively low costs.

Best of luck!

Why does this cat meow at my window?

He is attempting to get your attention and is obviously interested in your home for some reason.

I had one neighbors cat that came by and did a "home inspection" on occasions, Id open the door, the cat would check the place out from corner to corner then go to the door to go to the next apartment.

very well could be that he decided to adopt you.

I would suggest taking the screen out and leaving the window closed so he doesn't trash the screen, he wont understand you getting mad and if you are not receptive to him accepting your domicile as a hospitable location you might leave food farther away from the house each day to lure him away from your house...doesn't work very often but its a less than hostile way to not accept him in your house...

Why do cats sit at the window staring outside?

Cats love the outdoors, they will sit at windows and stare for hours if you let them.
They are probably wondering what to do next when they get let out.
They keep an eye on whats happening just in case something changes when they get outside and they may be planning their route when they go out.
Watch your cat when you open the door, i bet she will go in one direction only as if its been planned all along and they know where they are going. I think thats because they plan in their heads when they stare out of the window.
If your cat doesn't go out much then i would say she is not brave enough yet and she is taking it all in about the outside world sho when she does eventually goes out, she knows what to expect, then again, she just probably finds it so enjoyable watching the world without going out and prabably never will.

Cat staring out window and meowing at me!?

My cat does the same thing. He wants to look outside, but not be outside. The meowing is just his way of saying 'Hey look at what Im looking at'.

They're very alert that way. Cats want your life to revolve around theres so they are very particular, and if they see something, you must too.

I thnk next time this happens, try making it very obvious to the cat that you did see the birds, and then it should let you go about your business. My cat tends to stop once I talk to him [doesnt matter what i say as long as I say it in a lovey dovey voice!]

Cats; Why do they stare out of windows for hours?

This is just my idea... Cats are profound creatures. They love to sit and think, but they love to sit and NOT think even more. lol. My cat does that and watches every move in the neighborhood most of the time. Then, other times, she sits and her eyes are completely still and she stares up at the sky... either she's having a really good day dream or she's not thinking about anything at all. It's nice for them to do every now and then... Be free of all the stress of eating and sleeping eating and sleeping and sleeping and sleeping and pooping and sleeping. Ha ha!

Cat Meowing Loud outside the window!!!!!!?

do you have a cat yourself? if so, the outside cat must be in heat. it's called 'calling' when a female does it while in heat. i know if i heard a cat outside doing that, i would trap her and get her spayed. it's illegal in some places to let an unfixed dog or cat run loose outside. have you ever heard of 'trap, neuter, return'? it's a method many cities use to stop cat overpopulation in a humane way...look up info at ' alley cat allies. com ' they do a lot of tnr all over the usa.

Why does my cat stare out my window?

Every cat is different, but if your cat is anything like mine, she/he is extremely curious and HAS to know what's going on. All the time. Maybe there's something going on outside, maybe the cat is waiting until something's going on. If there's a slight chance of a bird flying by, a car passing, a flower/leaf moving...the cat HAS to be informed! LOL. I'm not completely sure if this has more to do with cats wanting to survey their territory, or curiosity. So, without a more scientific term to help you out, your cat is being a cat.

My cat stares at me then meows. Why?

When I'm sitting in a recliner, or somewhere else, I notice my cat walking around. Of course, I call for her, then she comes. But she sits with her tail wrapped around her forelegs and she stares at me, her pupils dilated. I think it's a game, so I stare back. She'll begin to let out choked out mewls and meows, staring at me with curiosity and excitement/challenging motives. She doesn't show any type of aggression with this, but she'll stand up and paw at my face. Sometimes, when she is mewling, I'll mewl back at her. It's like we're communicating. I was wondering why she's been doing this, and it's only to me. Though, she isn't my cat. She's more or less my cousin's. Though, it took my cousin months to get the cat to come to people, including her, and when I came, it took me four days to get the cat to come to me and her. It was like we were connected at first sight. It's been this way with every cat I've gotten. It's quite strange, if you ask me. Any help answering my question? I honestly think she's playing a game with me, or she's communicating with me in a playful manner.

I have a theory about cats: if you feed them an hour early just once, then they will optimistically “ask” for food (in whatever way your cats do) that early every day, whether it happens again or not. Likewise, if they have EVER seen a bird or something out a window, then they will keep going back, whether they see another bird or not.Cats are very location-oriented, so basically my guess is that they quickly come to take note of windows as locations where new stimuli may happen, and even one instance of positive reinforcement is enough to keep windows interesting for a very long time, perhaps years. In the summer when your windows are open, they probably smell a lot of interesting smells (and hear interesting sounds) in windows also. The smell component may be more important than the visual one, and remember that cats hear high-pitched sounds that humans cannot, so there may well be a cacophony of rodents calling each other at night for your cat to voyeur. They may even be able to get sound or smell through some closed windows; my cat seems to favor the windows that don't seal perfectly in the winter.
