Why Is My Email Being Used On Dating Sites

How do the spam "dating sites" get my email?

The spam content is totally irrespective of anything that you do. Allegations of visiting porn sites etc are just so much twaddle.

What actually happens is that somehow you get on a list and this is passed round the spammers and scammers for use as they please.

So far, it would appear that the list you are on is limited to dating sites. They will soon pass your list to the viagra merchants etc..

While it may be possible that someone (and that includes yourself) entered your email address at a dating site, it is just as likely that a harvester found the email address somewhere else or you inadvertently left it lying around somewhere or they invented you and got lucky.

Do not get concerned over the why. Be prepared to tackle the spam. At mail, look for options and click on it then read the tutorials before implementing your spam mitigation strategy.

Why does my wife get dating sites emails, but I don't ?

Perhaps she's used dating sites before (or still is) or her email was gathered from some other source and is part of the mailing list used by that site...

If the emails are just contact/solicitation from a site, I wouldn't be concerned (and she can block them if she desires)...if contact is from subscribers on the site, then you should worry about why she's got a profile on a dating site for people to contact her through...

Why is my bf getting dating site junk mail?

I do and I aint subscribed to adult sites, lots of people get them!

Why do I receive emails from dating sites when I didn't search or sign up?

Which sites are sending you emails? I doubt top legit dating sites like Match, Plenty of Fish, eHarmony, etc. would blatantly spam you. There are a few ways this could happen even if you never went on these sitesThey purchased email lists with your email address on them. These lists would likely be compiled from hacked data or those who collected your name legitimately selling it to someone else. In Canada list purchases would be illegal since the Canadian Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL) requires explicit permission to send commercial email. However, the US CAN-SPAM requirements only need you to be e legitimate sender and provide an opt-out mechanism. You used your email address on an affiliated site and may not have read the fine print about they use this data. This means their network or affiliate sites may be able to email you legitimately. You’ve been compromised in a phishing attack and someone directly got your info because you clicked on an email link or similarly (including responding to a Facebook offer or quiz). Remember that offers that are too good to be true usually are. Also, many Facebook quizzes and contests are just to capture and mine your data.If the sites emailing you are legit you should be able to unsubscribe and be done with it. You may even want to contact them to say you want your email address removed from their database and no emails sent from any of their businesses. If the sites emailing you are professional spammers you are likely out of luck unsubscribing. In fact, using their unsubscribe may just confirm that your email is valid and they will resell it to others. In this case mark the emails as spam and then create a mail filtering rule to send them to the spam/junk folder or delete them.

My husband gets email advertisements from dating sites and I don't. Is it because of websites we visit?

It has nothing whatsoever to do with the websites you visit. It has to do with the places that know your email address, such as the forums you register on, the mailing lists you sign up for, and the number of your friends who send you "free" e-cards. Also, if your email address happens to be in the address book of someone who gets their computer taken over by a trojan, your email address gets spammed.

At work, a 65 year old grandma got spammed regularly for male enhancement products. I can assure you it has absolutely nothing to do with the websites she visited or with any sort of targeting provided by tracking cookies. Spammers spam. That's why they're called spammers. If they have an email address on their lists, they spam it without regard for the possible interests of the target.

Why does my boyfriend have emails from porn dating sites and is lying that he never talked to them?

My boyfriend and I have been together for almost a year. We have lived together for a 8 month. When I first moved here he felt weird and like I was hiding something when I checked my emails away from him. So, I thought why don’t we just check are emails together…since then we have. Recently, I discovered he had a hotmail account. I logged onto it being curious and stupid. I found all these dating sites for are city we live in. Asian sites, all kinds. They were writing him and saying they haven’t talked to him in a while. I clicked on the sites and it looked like porn girls. So, I thought maybe it was the girls that send that to guys to visit their porn sites. What do you think? Well, I confronted him later that day. He wouldn’t even look at them, and said the only way I’ll look at them is if you leave the room….”You’re very unfaithful” he added. Then, I remembered when I first got here this girl sent a picture of her breast, and said “haven’t heard from you in a while”…he said IDK who she is. He told me after his girlfriend and him broke up he didn’t have sex for a year. He talked to two girls but it never went anywhere. I want to believe him it’s just hard. What should I do?

How do you stop getting emails from dating sites and others that you dont want?

Your best first bet is to use the contact form on the site in question and ask for confirmation of removal.

If you get no response and the spam keeps coming, then you can do a simple whois @ whois.domaintools.com to find the sites information and importantly who they are hosted with.

Then send them another email or use contact form and notify them that if they do not remove you from there mailing list you will report them to there host provider (most decent host providers will not allow clients to spam and will limit there email sending abilities and even lock them in cases of too much spam).

If they still do not acknowledge you then report them to there host and to:

www.ftc.gov - just fill out the online form

www.spamcop.net - quick register and form fill online

Most sites will remove you after at least the second email and threat of report to there host, but there are some unscrupulous sites either self hosted or there host will not care in parts of the world. For that scenario you will just have to set up a filter in your email program either outlook or thunderbird for instance for the spam address eg. *@datingsitewontlisten.com and then all future emails will be automatically sent to spam/junk folder and deleted after a few days.

Hope this helps
