Why Is My Goldfish At The Bottom Of The Tank

Why is my goldfish laying on the bottom of the tank?

The aquarium is too small for goldfish, a minimum of 30 gallon is required for two goldfish h.they are very high bioload fish.Your aquarium must be high in both ammonia and nitrites. The sign your fish are showing are classical signs of high ammonia and nitrites, the gill linings of fish get burnt due to high level of pollutants,. The fish is nit able to breathe properly.Immediately get ammonia lockers from Market, check which brands are available. Also either get a bigger tank or exchange them for a single betta, the only fish that can live in a tank of that size

Why is my goldfish laying on his side at the bottom of his tank?

This could be lots of things.First, the fact that nitrates are 0 not normal, just as you suspect. Could your testing kit be expired or of questionable quality? I sounds fishy to me. Perhaps you can take a sample of the water to the fish store for a second opinion. The algae is odd. Does it easily wipe off? Is it more brown then orange? It could be a diatom buildup from changing the filter, in which case it would stop forming on its own in time and is harmless.Do you feed the fish sparingly, in more frequent smaller meals, while submerging the food and ensuring most of it gets eaten? Is the fish seeming to breath normally? If so, it could be a swim bladder problem. Read more about it here Causes and Cures for Goldfish Swim Bladder DisordeRegardless it never hurts to do a partial water change for now and each day while you sort this out. The idea of asking at a dedicated forum is also a good idea.In the end, I hate to say it, but sometimes a fish loses it’s swimming ability simply because it is on its way out.

Why are my goldfish floating in the tank or lying on the bottom of the tank?

Because they are probably dead, fish are sensitive to the water conditions, if you're using tap water in the tank you need to add tap safe, this takes out the nastiest elements in water or use RO water, reverse osmosis water, this is pure water. Also this is dependant on the type of fish your keeping. fish need to be kept at a certain temperature, fresh water, tropical, marine fish thrive in different temperatures. Know the type of fish you have. You'll need to get a water heater to keep them happy.

Why is my goldfish staying at the bottom of the tank?

What's the temperature of its tank?

Heat rises, so the coolest part is the bottom. There's no escape in a tank and it is hot this time of year.

Wait until the sun starts to set and it is cooling down outside then do a 20% water change. Water holds and releases heat much more slowly than air, so cooling down at night gives it a couple of hours in the morning while the temp builds up again. You might have to do this for a few days until the temp outside drops.

Help my goldfish is at the bottom of my tank and panting?

Lol. Donna if ever you see this again, I'd love clarification on what you mean by "too much ph imbalance".

Bottom sitting is never a good sign in goldfish. Here's some troubleshooting:

-Has your tank cycled? By this I mean, do you have the bacteria that converts ammonia into nitrites, and then nitrites into nitrates? If not, then your fish could be swimming in its own waste and showing symptoms of ammonia poisoning. To help him out, please do a LARGE water change using a good dechlorinator (Prime is excellent because it binds the ammonia to a nontoxic form, but leaves it available to your cycling bacteria).

-Is your tank well oxygenated? Do you have a bubble wand or an airstone? Fish are living creatures and they need O2 just like you. If you don't have an air stone, lower the water level on your tank: that way the cascade from your filter (assuming that you have a hang-on-back filter) will create water movement to allow more gas exchange at the water's surface. A water change is also in order: new water will not be as oxygen depleted as his.

If these water quality issues are not at stake here (if you know your tank is cycled and you have good water movement/bubblers) then you could be looking at an illness.

I will link you to a webpage with information about possible problems if your fish is bottom sitting:

The table will help you troubleshoot and hopefully diagnose which scenario is more likely affecting your goldie.

I hope this helps you.

If your goldfish's condition worsens I hope you will post on a good goldfish specific forum where they will be able to help you. thegab.org is excellent with vet techs as its mods. Here's a link to the sick fish forum:

Good luck!

My goldfish cuddle in the bottom corner of the tank- what does this mean?

Like you said theyre cuddling. I have 7 and they all sleep together like that. We've had them for 5 years and not a single baby yet

Why do goldfish sometimes stay at the bottom of the tank?

You know, it depends.  Sometimes they're sleeping.  Sometimes their belly is full.(Momentarily.  Goldfish are always looking for food.) If they're spending an excessive time still near the bottom it might be too cold, sometimes animals kind of go dormant when the temp creeps outside their happy zone. Or your fish might not be feeling well. If you're worried, check the thermometer, test the water quality, and observe your fish - is the skin bright and clear? Are the gills happy looking, not red and inflamed?  Eyes clear? If everything is perfect, you're just an over anxious keeper, which is not a bad thing to be. Nobody ever died from being cared about too much.

My dead fish is at bottom of tank?

right not all fish float if they die because of a swim gland problem they would have no air to float that's one of many examples hope this help answer your problems

If my goldfish is constantly picking at the bottom of the tank, is he hungry?

That is natural behaviour for carp species (including goldfish) which are bottom feeding fish. They dig around in the substrate looking for small invertebrates to eat. They don't forget that have already eaten. Studies have shown that goldfish can retain a memory for 6 months. The 3 second memory is a myth. They are hard wired to be searching for food most of the time, you do not need to give them any more.

My goldfish is having trouble swimming to the bottom of the tank?

Is this because he has atmospheric oxygen in he lungs? There's 2 fish in the tank. Fancy/telescope eyes. I have 2 filters. One at each end of the tank. One makes bubbles, and filters, the other just filters. I've tried turning one off thinking maybe it was sucking him up, but he continued to struggle. He's trying to get down there to eat the food off the bottom I guess. He'll swim, struggle, kinda float back up upside down, straighten out and go again. I change some of the water every day, but he still goes up and breathes at the top. Why can't he swim to the bottom? How can help to fix it?
