Why Is My Puppy Shedding So Much

Why is my westie shedding?

Every dog sheds.

At least yours is little.

I have an 80 pound Great Pyrenees/Australian Shepherd mix. AGH! It took me TWO HOURS to get him completely fur free.

A furminator from petsmart (running around 50 dollars for a medium) can be a life-saver. I have five large breed dogs, all of them shed, but they only shed ONCE a year with the furminator.

A good groomer can help you with your shedding problem, a certain clip, shampoo, food, vitamin, or brush can reduce the amount of hair lost.

Why is my PitBull shedding so much?

My boyfriend and i adopted a white female pit bull almost 3 months ago and she sheds like crazy! ive always had German Sheppard's and other dogs that shed a tremendous amount and the amount that she sheds is equivalent to what they would shed. We feed her Nutro which is a high quality food and she has issues with her shoulder so we give her The Missing Link Plus Canine Formula with Joint Support in her food every day. this also has omega 3's and a bunch of other vitamins which should counteract any lack of nutrition that she might not be getting from her food. we have a soft bristle brush that we bush her with but that doesn't seem to do much. She's also very high energy (as most pit bulls are) so we take her on 5 mile walks/runs a few times a week and if we don't have time for that she gets at least an hour walk at one of the nearby tracks. She does get crated while we're at work (an average of 1-5 hours 5 days a week) because she has bad separation anxiety from being in the shelter and being moved around so much. if we leave her out she is very destructive which is an entirely different issue we're dealing with. im not sure if the shedding is stress related or not but if anyone has any suggestions i would greatly appreciate it.

Why is my Australian Shepherd/Red Heeler mix puppy shedding so much?

This is why. The aussie is really hairy and that’s pretty much it. Hotter weather will encourage heavier shedding but there will likely be hairs all year coming off.Straight heelers arent as bad but you can see they are a bit fluffy as well. A mix of the 2 means your dog probably has a bit of a long coat but not as long or as short as either counterpart. Unfortunately the undercoat comes with it!With those genetics, enjoy! My heeler has an aussie grandparent and I cant bathe her indoors; all that hair clogs my drain. On hardwood floors, sweep ~weekly at least or there will be an unsightly buildup. Get a comb with a button so you can quickly brush and dispose of as much shed hairs as possible. (Alot comes off the top of the dog like the neck, withers, spine and bum) Will likely have to do that weekly as well, maybe more if you really want to be ontop of it.

Corgi/Shih tzu (shorgi) puppy shedding hair?

I just bought an shorgi yesterday from an elderly lady who's health is in bed condition. The adorable baby girl is shedding hair all over the place. She's gonna be an inside dog of course but I have carpet and suede couches. How can I minimize her shedding. She's 2mo old. I know bad grooming or more likely no grooming can cause this and I know brushing her on the regular helps but I don't know how often and are there other products that can help? And also how often should I give her a bath with out drying her skin out. Wats the best shampoo that has good fragrance and won't leave her smelling worser than she does now?....pls forgive me. I have never had an inside dog before so just like an 1st time mother I'm learning step by step. Thank you in advance!

Why is my Pomeranian shedding?

Shedding as in “dropping fur everywhere?”Did you shave or severely trim your dog?Normally, a Pomeranian sheds, but the long coat catches the falling fur and holds it, so that it doesn’t fall onto the floor. You then brush, comb, or rake the dog, and that pulls out the dead fur, which you then dispose of.If you have had your Pomeranian a few years, and it is just now dropping hair on the floor, all I can guess is that you must have shaved it, or cut its fur back enough that the longer overcoat is not catching the dead hairs anymore, so they are falling out everywhere.Just keep brushing, combing, and raking as you did (or had done) previously, and as the long coat grows out, you should see fewer hairs laying around, and many more in your rake/comb/brush.

When does a St. Bernard puppy start shedding? My puppy is 7 weeks old and he already started shedding hair. Is this normal?

I rescued a St.Bernard puppy when she was 3 weeks. And she started shedding at 2 months.Saints have some special characteristics - they shed a lot and drool a lot. To reduce shedding, you should comb/brush her twice a day to take off the loose hairs. Any good pet store will have special combs & brushes - start with the soft side of the brush so as not to hurt the soft skin. You can also give him these two: Omega+ and SanCoat, both vet medicines which will control shedding and improve coat alongwith make it glowing. I use these whenever the shedding gets out of control (my baby is 2 years now). And ensure your puppy does not swallow his own hair - or a hairball problem may develop which might be fatal if unnoticed.Otherwise you can add extra Virgin Italian Olive Oil to his food, in which case you may give only 1 of the above-mentioned two medicines.Happy Sainting! My baby is a pure bliss - the most well-behaved, lovely, loving and sensitive doggie I’ve ever had.

Why is my Boston Terrier shedding SO MUCH all of a sudden?!?

When I first brought my BT puppy home, I was amazed at how little she shed. I was like, OMG! Why aren't these guys on any of the low shedding dog lists? I'd sit there and brush her and would get one piece of fur every five minutes. Now, she's shedding like crazy. It's beyond excessive. She makes my cat, who is a shed monster, look like a saint. Is she blowing her puppy coat? She is only three months old. What's going on? Should I be concerned?

Why is my English Mastiff shedding so much?!?

Mastiff puppies usually blow their puppy coats around four or five months of age, so he most likely already had his adult coat when you got him. But as Mastiffs grow, they often suddenly turn into shedders around this age. (Well, maybe not "often," but it's not uncommon.)

A lot of Mastiffs shed differently. Some shed very lightly, some shed like there's no tomorrow all year round, and some shed seasonally. Though this is just a guess, of course, I think it sounds like you have a seasonal shedder on your hands. If so, you'll probably go through this twice a year for his summer and winter coats. Or, you might just have a heavy shedder!

Make sure he's on a good diet that's rich with healthy fatty oils. Here are some great diet suggestions:

These healthy fats and oils promote healthy skin and fur. You can even add more to his diet through fish oil:

Try using a FURminator brush on him. They're high quality tools so they can be very expensive, so buy one on eBay for a fraction of the price. Then, try to brush him out thoroughly as often as possible. FURminators do a great job of getting dead fur from the undercoat, so expect a mess of fur!
