Why Is My Real Name Used When Sending Mail

Do you have to use your real name on a sending letter?

You don't have to use your own name. You can use a nickname, or make up a name, or you can even use someone else's name, so long as you're not trying to defraud anyone.

If you sent someone a mail pretending to be someone else for purposes of fraud, that's 'mail fraud' which is a very serious federal crime.

But there's no requirement that you use your own name. You can even sign contracts, checks, credit card slips, etc. with a different name, and so long as it was you that signed them, you are responsible. Again, just as long as you aren't meaning to commit fraud.

A question about sending mail with a fake name?

I want to send a letter to a friend. I put their regular name and address, and I put my regular address in the return address part. Instead of my actual name, I wrote "An illegal alien" because I like making Hispanic jokes against myself. (I'm seriously a citizen though.)

But I was having second thoughts... Is the government gonna start checking me and my family out to see if we're legal residents? I mean, we all are, but I don't want people bothering me over a stupid joke... I've used fake names with my real address in the past (like Harry Butts) which I know isn't a big deal, but I thought this alien thing might alarm somebody.

What do you think?

•My name is displayed as "false" to my friends when I send them any mail. My actual name is "Narayanan Ramacha?

Yahoo has changed the settings menu around.
It used to work like "Barclay Hound" instructed, but not anymore.

This is the New way to change the "from line" setting.

Mail page>>options>>mail /more options>>Accounts (from the list on the left)>>then click on "Yahoo Mail" (middle of page).

Now you'll need to erase whatever is showing, on the "From line" and type in something else---a nickname---or anything you wish-----then click "save" changes at the top of page.
.........................................
You CAN'T leave that line blank---otherwise Yahoo WILL insert something there, that you might not want. (sometimes the word False)

Is it illegal, in the US, to make a fake email with a fake name and use it to email someone to get innocent info anonymously (i.e. career advice)?

There is no law I am aware of in the US prohibiting you from using a pseudonym of your choosing when making a new email account. There is also no law I am aware of in the US prohibiting you from using anonymous internet access from locations such as coffee shops (Starbucks, etc) while doing so.It is rather difficult to make such an account on a service like Gmail, though, without giving Google a real phone number (most if not all of the popular throwaway phone number services are known to Google and disallowed). They claim this is only to stop spammers from making untold numbers of fake accounts. However, it’s quite possible to get a phone and a new, anonymous prepaid SIM card, and use the small amount of credit on a brand new prepaid SIM card to set up at least three such Gmail accounts. There are also less-known services that simply do not care to do this level of account verification; finding them is an exercise left to the reader. What is against the law is using someone else’s real name to make an email account and using that account fraudulently (fooling others into thinking they are that person). Texas specifically amended their harassment law to cover this some years ago, for example, though it could easily run afoul of fraud or deceptive trade practice laws as well.If you claim it is per se illegal to make an email account with a pseudonym in a given US state, please cite the law. Outside the US, you’re on your own.

Do you need a name to mail a letter?

You can drop mail in a mailbox anywhere without posting a name and return address. However, this is highly frowned upon in this day and age where the mentally ill send powder packages, illegal materials and the like sent through the mail. This could cause investigations on the receiving end, if something suspicious is found to be in the package. And it is likely the receiving party will be able to identify the identity of the friend who sent it.

Do you need to give Venmo your real full name, or can you use an alias?

I am using Venmo. My friend is sending me quite a large amount of money. I have my real bank account added on there but am using a fake name.

I'm wondering, if he sends the money using my username, will I have any trouble transferring the money to my bank account because I'm not using my real name?

Does a P.O. box require the same name to be on incoming mail as the name registered for the box at USPS?

The rules are specific for individual vs business Post Office Boxes. Fraud prevention methods are used for PO Boxes. If the name on the package doesn’t match the name on the box the Post Office has the option of either sending the package back as “Addressee unknown” or to notify the PO boxholder that there is a package. The Boxholder will have to bring in the named person along with 2 forms if ID to pick up the package.Rules for Individually rented PO Boxes:The owner of the POB is the person that brought the form in and provided 2 forms of ID. The spouse of the boxholder has to present 2 forms of ID as well. This person has to pay the rent. Any other person trying to pay will automatically close the box. The owner may close the box. And on closure, is the only person that may forward their mail to a new address. The boxholder is the only person allowed to buy a new key for the PO Box.Anyone else that may get mail in another’s PO Box is considered a rider in that box. They have to be brought into the Post office with the boxholder and also show 2 forms of acceptable ID to be added. The rider may get mail in that PO Box now. Riders may not forward out of a PO Box, pay the rent, close the box or buy a key. They may access the mail with a key only that will be provided by the boxholder.Business PO BoxesAny and all names with the correct PO box number will be delivered to the business address.Only signed and designated agents on the PO Box application may close, pay, buy keys.Only the Business named may forward mail out of the closed PO Box. Individuals may not forward mail from a PO Box.These are the basics for Renting a PO Box.

Does Royal Mail allow post to be sent without the recipient's name included on the envelope and just the address?

In the vast majority of cases the answer is yes. Royal Mail is a postal service with a Royal Charter and is bound by law to deliver mail as addressed. many people every day get mail addressed to 'The Occupier' A name would be requested by the post office when sending a Special Delivery Item. The name can be a company name. The name that Royal Mail need when delivering a Special Delivery Item would be the name of the person who signs for that item at the delivery address. This does NOT have to be the person named on the address label! But the person MUST be at the address. Royal Mail staff are told not to deliver to people on the street (as in 'hi, my name is Soandso, have you my mail for number 42')  they could in theory face disciplinary action for this even if the know the person. This emphasises the role of Royal Mail to deliver all mail as addressed and diminishes the importance of a name on the label or letter. Hope this helps
