Why Is My Saint Bernard Scabby And Itching

Saint Bernard itching constantly?

Can you tell me what food you are currently feeding and what food you were feeding? Also how long have you been feeding the new food?

Dogs dont need anything but meat bones and organs in their diets. Anything other than that is extra.

I recommend trying a different meat such as solid gold hund-n-flocken or taste of the wild.

For your dog, you want to stay with kibble that contains 23% protein or less(does not apply to raw diet). You also do not want to feed puppy food or large breed dog food. Here are a few others along with the above option:

What's wrong with my saint bernard?

It may be what's reffered to as "hot spots". My lab used to get them all the time. It's like a rash, and like with us, rashes itch and hurt. So because the pup doesn't know any better it'll scratch that itch, usually until it's worse than before.
We were fortunate enough to catch Maggie's spots before they got out of hand. Take your St. Bernard to the vet and they will more than likely give you cream for it if it's what I'm thinking of.
Though he may be without some fur for a while ^^ as they need to cut the hair around the infected areas to get the cream on the skin. ^^
Also ask about food allergies. It could also be that. Dog's and all animals tend to show their allergic reactions differently than us humans. Maggie (when she eats any chicken) gets horribly wax filled ears, and since the hot spots stopped we're thinking it may have been related. Talk to your vet, they're your dog and yours best friend for information.
Good luck and I hope this helps.

My dog has a large scab on her chin...?

Hello. I have a 2 year old smooth coat st. bernard. I was out of town last week and took her to a new boarding facility that came recommended. I picked her up yesterday and I just noticed that she has a scab about the size of a half dollar on her chin. If I were to guess I think it is a hot spot, but she has never had one before. It does not seem to hurt her and she has not been itching it but it is pretty gross. Is there anything I can do at home to treat it? Should I use some sort of antibiotic ointment?

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Itching all over, is it Staff or Scabbies?

A friend has these kinda like mosquitos bites on his feet, knee's elbows. And this crazy itch on the back of his wrist, and on his fingers and the moist part between the fingers itchest also.
His inner thighs, hamstring and bottom check of his bum also itches. Would this be a case of STAFF or scabbies.
Doctor said, back wrist looks like scabbies and front of his feet looks like staff.
Also when he lays on the couch, the itch gets worst. And now a relative has catched the same too. Itch on elbows, back wrist, feet and back.. Same symptoms as the host, anyone have any idea??
10 pills of 500MG, were given to the guy and 8 have been consumed, still no progress..
Sucks, this has been going on after my ACL and meniskus reconstructions. Could of catched it anywhere,
Also, he has sex with a girl who had scabbies, b4 and got fired
from her job for it. Could she had givien it to him???

PLEASE! Help me, there's something wrong with my dog!!!?

I have a St Bernard dog who is about 3 years old Last winter he got these itches on his back just above his tail. He would scratch so much it would tear open the skin and it would bleed. We called our vet he said it could be an allergy but they went away on their own. This year they came back again and we got the vet to look at it he said it was an allergy most likely, and gave us some pregnezon pills (not sure on spelling) So we changed his food and his bedding and they got better, but they keep coming back! Now they are all over his back and he is always scratching at them! It looks terrible and I feel bad for him because nothing we do helps we bought some itch relief spray and that helps but before it sinks into the skin he licks it off or rolls in the snow. Hes got a few bald patches so you can see the scabs and he licks at it so the fur around it freezes in the cold. We give him the pills and it gets better, he stops itching and usually allows the sores to heal but our vet says we

My dog has big scabs on her lower back?

Bathing every week is way too much. Bathing strips the skin and coat of healthy oils that keep the skin moisturized. This can cause dry skin, itching and dandruff. Stop bathing and groom regularly.

Feeding a lower quality food can cause skin condition changes, for example, artificial colours, preservatives and flavours can contribute to hair loss while ingredients like chicken by-products dont provide the same levels of omega fatty acids as chicken or chicken meal. Omega 3 and 6 fatty acids are important for skin and coat health.

Finally, if your dog is allergic or sensitive to ingredients like corn or wheat, then a lesser quality food might be irritating this sensitivity which would cause the scabbing. If these ingredients are present in your current food, they can also cause your dog to be overweight since they are not very digestible. I would transition to something more digestible like Natural Choice Wholesome Essentials which contains real chicken as the first ingredient, no corn, no wheat and no soy protein. It also contains high levels of omega 3 and 6 in combination which zinc which is why it is the only company that guarantees an improvement in skin and coat.

Hope she feels better soon,

I was petting my dog when I noticed he has a big scab on his back, it is mostly healed, but is there a way to prevent my dog from opening the wound because he is itching it a lot?

In the first place, a dog does not itch himself. An itch is the feeling the dog gets when the place gets irritated. The action the dog takes is called scratching. So the dog scratches an itch, he doesn’t itch an itch. I would recommend an ointment of some sort such as Neosporin. But do not used an ointment with a pain reliever, as the pain reliever is a narcotic and could harm the dog when he licks the sore spot.

Can herpes-2 appear anywhere on your body?

You can have chickenpox or shingles (both are caused by herpes simplex virus 3 - HSV3) which appears as a rash or bumps all over the body.

However, HSV2 generally stays in the genital area and can sometimes affect the mouth and lips.

You should see a doctor and get some antiviral medication ASAP if you indeed have herpes. Only a doctor can properly diagnose you and offer/provide treatment. Good luck!
