Why Is My Shih-tzu Acting Differently

Shih tzu is acting REALLY strange?

We have a 4 year old female shih tzu. On Thursday we took her to the kennel to have her hair cut. She LOVES the kennel. She gets to play with the other dogs, etc. SHe has been acting strange ever since. Kind of depressed.

Well today my husband worked from home and called me while I was at work. She just sat there looking at him and shivering. She wanted to go outside several times today so he let her out but she just sat on the front step. At one point he left her off her leash to see what she wanted and she ran right for the garage. I should mention that we live in MN so it is quite cold. He had to go outside to get her because she wouldn't come in.

She was fine when I got home from work. She is eating like normal and going to the bathroom after she eats like normal. Well tonight around 8pm she just stood at the top of the steps (inside) with her tail down shivering. We both let her outside a couple times but she is refusing to come back in. I swear she wants to go someplace. She is ALWAYS In the same room as us and she is refusing to leave the back door. SHe is inside but just sits by the door. She doenst have to go to the bathroom because we have let her out a million times and she just sits at the top of the steps. if we let her off her leash she will go to the garage.

Can a dog WANT to go someplace? What do we do???? I miss my fun loving puppy!!! Help!?!?!

My 2 year old shih-tzu has been acting VERY aggresive toward me when I scold or spank him?

He is reacting to the punishment. Punishment causes fear aggression.. You should never spank, yell, hit, throw or do anything to hurt your dog.

Since your dog is now aggressive towards you you will need to speak with a behaviorist to learn how to get your dogs trust back and not to fear you.

add: this aggression has nothing to do with its genetics or that it was bought from a pet store..it is purely fear aggression towards being punished.

Add: Please do not roll your dog onto its back...this is a very dangerous action and should never be done by anyone professional or not to a dog.

Why is my 9-year-old Shih Tzu acting scared all the time?

Shih Tzu is sensitive. They can often be found curled up in a corner and therefore owners should be careful lest they hurt them accidentally. They might even suffer from stress related disorders if they do not get enough attention from their owners for a considerable period of time. You can find more info here.

I think my one year old shih tzu is pregnant?

She can have an immediate GRAVID spay (will abort a litter already underway) - which I would recommend if she was bred by her father AND in that she is still a puppy/juvenile & not mature enough to have a litter, nor has either parent been tested/screened for, any of the breed's most common genetically caused problems. Toy dogs often need C-sections & they can cost up to $2,000.

Why your mother would suggest you separate the mother & puppies (and YOU try to raise them by bottle feeding) is BEYOND any reasonable understanding of animal husbandry and is a shockingly BAD and totally inappropriate idea, provided the mother survives the birth.

In that neither of you know the first thing about whelping (problems) how to do it, how to raise puppies, the costs involved in a litter, the supplies needed - I again strongly recommend a gravid spay to prevent an INCESTUOUS & extremely INBRED litter, that is HIGHLY likely to have health problems. (It could possibly saddle you w/ high veterinary expenses, & unhealthy pups you CANNOT find homes for) and will add to the already high, overpopulation of dogs.

I have a 7 y/old shih tzu and her stomach is making a lot of weird noises should I be worried?

She could be having gas problem, she could be hungry, or if she's just eaten - then it might just be her stomach digesting her food.

If this continues A LOT, and she's acting differently, I suggest taking her to the vet.

But, that's last resort - because this is completely normal.

How do I know if my Shih Tzu has a renal failure? Her groomer thinks she does.

What does a veterinarian have that groomers don’t have? Many years of schooling and the ability to run blood work! If your dog is otherwise healthy, ignore the groomer. If your dog is acting abnormal in any way, see your vet. It is worthwhile to ASK the groomer WHY she thinks the dog’s kidneys are failing. Be especially alert to excess thirst and excess urination, in addition to weight loss.

How long should a healthy six year old Maltese Shih-Tzu have a walk for each day? She gets tired after fifteen minutes.

Your dog falls in the category of brachycephalic dogs. These dogs often have a wide skull, but short noses. Dogs with short noses don’t require a lot of walk time because their short snouts limit their ability to process oxygen. 15–30 minutes max per day. If your dog gets tired after fifteen minutes, that’s probably enough for her.Don’t overdo just because other people have dogs that can go on long runs with them. Those dogs probably have long noses or were bred to run fast or long distances (e.g., greyhounds or herding breed dogs).
