Why Is Obama Talking About Racism In The Zimmerman Case

Why is the Trayvon Martin / George Zimmerman case such a hot political topic anyway?

Help me out with this, because I'm struggling to figure out why this case is a battle of conservative vs liberal, and why this whole thing has become so political.

I mean, let's get real for a moment. There are black teenagers getting smoked in South Central LA all the time. Where's the media attention? Why is THIS such a hot topic? Because Trayvon Martin was black and because George Zimmerman is......(what is he anyway?) He's not white, so you cant' say this is a hate crime. Or can you?

I guess my question is WHY we're all arguing over this case as if it has ANY political relevance whatsoever? Guilty or innocent, this doesn't affect me in the slightest. Or any of you for that matter. Especially if Florida "hold your ground laws" don't apply to you in whatever state you live in. So why all the hub-bub?

Why do people call George Zimmerman a racist when his mother was born in Peru of a black and mixed race?

What he did is a dead giveaway, isn’t it?Also, it is a complete fallacy that racism doesn’t exist in one ethnicity of another. Racism is a reaction of tribal nature and tribalism is a primate thing that as modern humans we are (rightly) reasoning away of importance so we can all work together and cooperate in this smaller and smaller world. So it’s part of the wiring of the human brain, which means it can be anywhere the environment has fostered it or the individual has decided it is okay.By which I mean, you can be any color and ethnicity and be racist. Some cultures are less focused on race than others, but sadly, any individual can have the tribal bit turned on for any reason and be a racist.Luckily, education and repeated positive exposure to what you fear to make it familiar seems to do the trick to eliminate racist feelings. Our human brains are amazing and flexible like that.

A lot of Americans seem disappointed in Barack Obama's handling of racial tensions and relations in the United States, but what could he have done?

What can anyone do about racism, other than call out instances of it and ostracize the offender? Anything above and beyond that causes more racism and I’ll explain why. When Obama says there’s a “justice gap” (a direct quote) by race, he is ascribing racism to non-specific white people across society. In other words, he’s slandering an entire race of people rather than calling out individuals which have committed racist acts. Why does he not call out individuals? Because he has no proof, but proof has never gotten in the way of a good narrative. When Obama weighs in on the Trayvon Martin case by saying “If I had a son, he’d look like Trayvon Martin,” he is attempting to tap into the tribal instincts of black and mixed race people and create resentment. These tribal instincts (ingroup-outgroup) exist within every person, and they can be exploited. That’s what he did. What he said had nothing to do with the facts in the case whatsoever - it was a sentimental and emotional appeal to prejudice disguised as compassion.Saying that we as a nation have high levels of racial tension is a self-fulfilling prophecy. If people believe there are a lot of racists, that will negatively affect their perception of other races and inevitably will spill over into the way they treat them. If you want to talk about racism, expose actual racists. It’s really not rocket science, and it’s the way things have worked ever since the Civil Rights era. It is really only during Obama’s term, and specifically ever since the Trayvon Martin trial that the media and people in this country have been obsessed with talking about race and how racist this country is. And I don’t think that is them catching up with what the reality already was, I believe the current reality is catching up to their rhetoric…..I’m happy to be shown to be wrong though.

Why is the Trayvon Martin case so big?

1) Because there was a street altercation where one man shot another, yet there was no arrest whatsoever. George Zimmerman, the shooter, claimed that Trayvon Martin, the victim assaulted him; so Zimmerman was let go without charge due to the 'Stand Your Ground' law enacted in Florida. Race was brought into question because Trayvon Martin was a young black man; guns rights/Stand Your Ground were an issue as well, because Zimmerman was on an unofficial 'neighborhood watch', reported Martin to the police (basically for being suspicious), and got out of his car, despite being told to stay in it.
2) The altercation and shooting occurred on 26 Feb 2012. After the story of Zimmerman's non-charge went viral, it was commented on by President Obama. Florida investigated the matter and finally did bring charges on 11 Apr 2012.

There are a lot of details to this case, and Answers isn't the best place for a detailed recounting of it. Wikipedia has a pretty good page on the incident.

Is president obama racist?

The way he expressed him self over the Zimmerman case makes me fee like he is racist. Im hispanic And I feel like he is choosing groups of people instead of standing up for all the people.

Is Jesse Jackson stupid, or is he smart by talking his nonsense to....?

.... stupid people?

JACKSON: --- " Trayvon Martin case: 'Blacks are under attack,' says Jesse Jackson. "Why has it taken so long for everyone else to recognize the chronic injustices that African Americans face?" http://www.latimes.com/news/nation/natio...

FACT CHECK 1: --- "blacks are 13% of the population, but commit 51.2% of the murders, indicate that blacks commit a seriously disproportionate number of murders.
http://www.hhscenter.org/bonbstat.html

FACT CHECK 2: --- 90.1% of all Black victims are caused by Blacks committing the crimes.

http://www.hhscenter.org/bonbstat.html

I guess Jackson thinks that we're all stupid.

===> Well....here's what one black man says.....
" "Let me tell you something, your dirty laundry gets out of school at 2:30 every day, it's cursing and calling each other the N--word as they're walking up and down the street. They think they're hip. They can't read; they can't write. They're laughing and giggling, and they're going nowhere. I can't even talk the way these people talk, 'Why you ain't,' 'Where you is' ... and I blamed the kid until I heard the mother. Don’t blame white people, they didn’t raise your child, you did”! ---- Bill Cosby

Why is the media race baiting so hardcore?

It's gotten out of hand. Yes the Trayvon Martin thing was a very big deal because of how Zimmerman was just released like nothing happened. The Michael Brown thing was also something worth looking in to.

But nowadays I see a new race story all the time. The latest one just blew my mind, Michelle Obama crying racism because a white woman asked her to reach something on the top shelf while she was in Target...

It's not cute anymore. Not every distasteful interaction between a white and black person has to be rooted in racism. Do these people think us white people are all happy and smiles with each other all the time?
