What's so bad about Yahoo! Answers?
I have to disagree that it's the worst thing in the world. It has shortcomings for sure. But Yahoo Answers serves the masses, while Quora still serves the niche. Quora has a strong following in Silicon Valley and in general among internet entrepreneurs, software geeks, etc. But that would hardly be 2-5% of the masses. I have to believe that average intellectual level of the community on Quora is pretty high and I would not expect them to use Yahoo Answers. If you somehow bring the 100 million users of Yahoo Answers on Quora then they are likely to create a significant amount of spam on Quora as well. No community moderation can stop that. Turns out that what is "spam" for a few of us, is actually entertainment for millions out there. People actually visit those pages (in millions) and click on ads as well! Yahoo does not pay or promote people to create spam. In fact, a lot of research goes into how to tactfully deal with spam without hurting the community. I love Quora and spend a lot of time on it. However, I find it very hard to get answers to non-tech questions on Quora. I have to turn to Yahoo or Aardvark for them. I believe both Yahoo Answers and Quora can coexist like any other niche and mass products in the world.
Why is Yahoo Answers so stupid?
Because of yahoo making stupid counter intuitive site changes to it 4–5 years ago and the fact they’ve slowly been pulling support for anyone on the site who wanted to report/control all the undesirables on it over the past few years (even with the massive increase in them over the past few years) basically leaving it to people who just want to screw around/not bother googling stuff rather than ask any intelligent/serious questions.The biggest problem with Y!A was that the site was always USER moderated, with yahoo only getting involved in report appeals. And while that worked for a while it doesn’t anymore since they’ve either sold of or abandoned supporting any of their site’s other sections (news, personals, sports,etc). So it naturally allowed all the trolls/spammers/idiots to basically do whatever they wanted with no way to stop them….. so naturally anyone with any intelligence who had been using the site, left. (like me)
Why Does Yahoo!Answers Suck So Bad?
I am sooo friggin peeved right now! I had invested nearly 45-60 minutes to making the case for my argument in someone's question, doing all the research for my references. I know poeple will say I should've answered quicker, and so be it. But when I hit the "Preview" button I was asked to verify my password. When I did it sent me to a screen that said "preview" but it was not previewing my answer, there was no "next" or "submit" button. So I used my back button to go back to the "enter your question" page and it was as if I was going to it for the first time. My friggin answer was gone! All the time invested in it was POOF! Damn stupid Y!A.....asking me to verify my password! I never logged out! I've been using the SAME pc with the SAME ip address and it asks me to verify...these guys are friggin morons! Yeah, yeah...I'm sure I'll get flamed and I'll get the "You're retarded not Y!A!" bit, and the "This is not a question!", but again, so be it...
Why are people in Yahoo Answers so rude?
Not everyone on yA is rude, but it is a platform for many to vent their problems on others, and not have any accountability.I used to use YA until realizing most of the responses I got were from cynical, judgemental people just looking to rustle feathers and diagree with you. I asked a q once about my dad who never worked most of his life. I got an answer from a guy who said I dont know what my dad before so don't judge. The guy didn’t want to help answer my question (which wasn’t relative to his answer) but he spoke like knew me and my father…like he knows that I dont know what my father did before - it was absurd. You realize how hypocritical people are that they criticize you for your question, then give you a self-righteous answer. They contradict themselves because they are basically saying u are wrong (and an idiot) and theyre right. It doesn't take much to see the insecurity in people who act like this… and it's actually quite pathetic when u think about it. What sad lives people have to invest their day putting someone else (who they will never know) as a means to better their day.It is a sespool for the uninspired.
Why is Yahoo Answers so full of badly written answers as well as amateurs and teenagers who treat it as if it were a chat forum?

Why is Yahoo answers full of idiots?
Several reasons:The poor moderation encouraged new users to make pointless questions, usually to irritate others.The closure of Yahoo Groups and the chat sites in December 2006 encouraged more trolls to flood into the site.Many other sites may have kicked them out for their misconduct, so it is usually trolls (mostly right-wing, though there are some left-wing trolls too), racists, spammers, and conspiracy theorists who go there to take advantage of the poor community moderation system, ruining the website for those who really needed help.Some people also post intentionally ridiculous questions to see how will the trolls react.
