Why won't my Kindle Fire play YouTube videos?
The Kindle Fire is set up to play several video formats (MPEG-4 MP4, 3GP, VP8(.webm), for example). Unfortunately, YouTube’s format is not always one of the supported formats (FLV). There is a fix for this. There is a YouTube app for Android, but it’s not available on the Amazon Kindle’s app store. To get it, you do the following:Set your Kindle Fire to accept app downloads from unknown sources. From the top main menu, select ‘More’. Under ‘Device’ select the option to allow such downloads.Go to the Amazon Kindle app store and download & install a file explorer. (I use ES File.)Use your browser to go to Google Play and download the YouTube app for Android.Open the file explorer and locate the local downloads. There should be a file there that is the YouTube app. The file name will end in .apk.Select the file. It should give you the option to install it. Click install.Once it is finished you should be able to see an icon for YouTube on your main screen.Use this app, not your browser, to view YouTube videos. (Note that even with the app installed, Kindle won’t let you subscribe to YouTube channels.)
Do you allow your children to watch YouTube videos?
I do, but she has to be controlled with it. She quickly becomes obsessed and it’s all she wants to watch if she has the choice, which I’d be fine with if she picked anything educational. But instead she watches spoiled children opening piles of toys, endlessly, and adults opening blind bags just to see what’s inside and then discard them and move onto the next ones.Now, I’m not saying that everything she does in life has to be educational. Downtime is important and mindless viewing is fine, but she would literally watch that all day if she had the option. It’s like an addiction.So she’s only allowed to watch YouTube if we have been out being active and doing things all day, and she has an hour or two before bed. It’s fine for her to wind down watching YouTube at the end of a busy day.If she’s watching TV in the morning, I don’t want her lost in YouTube, so she’s asked to watch a show with an actual plot that can be followed - something to get her brain working a bit.
How can I change the resolution of a video to 1080P on YouTube TV?
If the video was uploaded and is available in 1080P, you can adjust it with the wrench icon in the lower right hand corner of the video. Most of the time YouTube automatically determines what the max resolution of the video is and what your display device can handle. I recently got a 4K iMac and YouTube automatically selects the higher resolution, 4k, if the video is in 4K.I have noticed multiple videos that say they are 4k, but are only available in 1080p. This is because the person who uploaded the file to YouTube chose to do so as a 1080 video and not 4k. The same is true for 1080 videos, which may have been captured in 1080. but are uploaded as 720p or less. In these cases there is now way to watch in a higher resolution.
Why is the VLC video app choppy?

For most Android and iPhone users, the most interesting announcement that came out of Google I/O last week was Google Photos.The cloud service side of Google Photos was carved out of the Google+ Photos component. It may have to do with the fact that the video data file is compressed for delivery and the data loss varies depending on the file format you are using.The file is decompressed for transfer just as a music file is compressed as an mp3 file. However using a .flac file instead of mp3 requires a larger file but as the name implies .flac is a fully lossless audio so the result is much better quality.The video file is stored in a container which is a bundle of files and determines what type of codec support is allowed, as well as whether or not subtitles and other features may be used.The codec is the software which compresses and decompresses the file and ultimately determines the video quality.Using a media player such as VLC which allows for greater availability of codec options and configuration settings on the android device, and recording the video in a higher quality format will result in much better results.Try recording in with H.264 format instead if Mp4, you may download varying codec files depending in the specific model of iPhone, as compatibility between the device used to record and the device used to play the video must be the same.A video file recorded using MPEG-1 of say 25MB would be roughly 4GB in size using an RGB24 format but the RGB24 is much better quality.Also the delivery method is important.Uploading the file to Google Drive instesd of just attaching the file to a text message or email and then sending the file-link to the android device will allow the quality sole-use of the file and downloading priviledges when displayed on the android device will be higher.
