Why My Backtrack Ip Don

Can the police track down your Ip address?

Yes, for most regular users if the police have co-operation from network providers. All IP addresses have an owner. Owners can be tracked. For most cases, the owner assigns an IP temporarily to you when you use their network. If you have a permanent IP address, game over.Otherwise, when you use their network, behind a firewall or not, you will likely already have had some form of agreement/login with the network provider. Your device also has a unique identifier, known as a MAC address, which the underlying network software uses to map the IP address onto, and most providers will keep a log of what IP address are assigned to what MAC address. In fact for most cases IPv6 addresses use part of the MAC address which can be used to confirm your device’s access of a particular service, assuming the police physically have your device. If you are accessing some service (FB, Twitter, Google, etc), that provider will have your IP address, and the “relevant authorities” can usually trace you down from these records, but they will need the co-operation of the network providers to do so. That is where tracing you down falls rapidly apart. If you have been following the news, providers are usually reluctant to give out that information, and will require a subpoena, so regular police without resources will fall over there. Also, networks cross borders, so you will need co-operation from authorities in that other country, as well as the providers. In the UK, the Investigatory Powers Bill - nicknamed the Snoopers' Charter - became law in 2016 which, et. al. required ISPs to retain records of sites visited by their customers for 1 year. This was fortunately successfully challenged and deemed unlawful in Jan this year as it conflicted right to freedom and privacy laws in the EU , and 2 days ago the UK government were given to 1 November 2018 to fix it.Big Brother? That’s it right there! If you are a little more informed, there are free anonymous proxies, or VPNs, which you can hide behind. These will perform the network operations on your behalf, so the IP address the authorities may have could be shared by several thousand other users at the same time. And then there is the dark web…

Undertale Genocide route: Can you backtrack to the beginning of Waterfall right before the fight with The Heroine?

Hi, I'm doing the genocide route in Undertale and I am at the save point right before the Monster kid / Undyne fight scene. I was wondering if there was anyway to backtrack to the beginning of Waterfall or maybe Snowdin? The little bird isn't there so I'm kinda dumbfounded, I really don't want to have to restart or hack the save file.

Thanks for your time!

Is it possible to backtrack an SMS spoof?

Yes,  it is possible to backtrack a SMS spoof (i.e. trace the message to determine who the actual sender of the message was).  The first thing to know is that all SMS messages are delivered by a machine called an SMSC,  and every SMSC requires a unique address;  they need a Global Title which is similar to a telephone number and a Point Code which is similar to an IP address in SS7 terms.  In order to obtain these unique addresses a company is required to apply for them through a country regulator who will do background checks to ensure the company is legitimate.  As a consequence every single SMS message sent can be traced back to the company that has been permitted to send a message by a regulator. This company will then be able to trace the message down the value chain, and through its customers, and the customers of its customers and so on and eventually determine who the legal sending party was.At this point it is very likely that the message was sent through what is called an SMS portal,  which allows anyone to sign up and send a SMS after buying credits with a credit card and agreeing to simple terms and conditions.  If a legitimate credit card was used, then you have found the guilty party,  if a stolen credit card was used,  then this becomes a little more difficult and using IP addresses and a variety of other digital forensic information could lead you to the guilty party.99% of spoofed messages are sent via legitimate networks without trying to subvert the identity of the SMSC and as such the above is relatively easy to achieve in a few days after the message is sent.  In rare circumstances a spoofed message could be sent in combination with another type of fraud; GT spoofing,  which is a way of masking the identity of an SMSC.  This is a very complex fraud,  and is difficult but not impossible to trace,  but requires the co-operations of a number of parties in the value chain and could take months to figure out.  If you are victim to a spoofed message,  contact your carrier immediately and report it.  They will run through the above procedure to ensure the offending party is blocked.  In rare situations,  where a crime is committed within the spoofed message e.g. death threat,  then this should also be reported to local law enforcement who will investigate together with your carrier using the above process.

Can you be traced by your IP address if you are using Tor browser?

No security expert will ever tell you that any opsec is foolproof -- the only way to not ever get caught on the net, for sure, is never use the net and hope no one frames you for anything. ;)That said, Tor use with an updated Tor browser -- I might recommend on TAILS (not Windows) -- seems pretty secure.  Unmodified (no browser add-ons).  Best we know.  Today.Keep updated.  Don't be a dumbass and use Flash,  PDFs, js, etc.Don't enable cookies.  Don't give personal info in clear text on http.  Or just to contacts.  Most people you hear about, arrested using Tor, are caught due to poor personal discipline around opsec leading to normal forensics tripping them up.Usually vanilla criminals -- not activists/journalists/human rights workers.  In my time running the project I came to appreciate that petty criminals often have issues with impulse control.  If you do,  don't engage in risky behavior using software requiring opsec discipline.  Or, do, and risk getting caught.Frankly,  it let me sleep better at night,  knowing the record of sketchy folks getting caught using Tor -- more to the point, the blank absence of people getting caught among those we designed it for.But that's my white hat showing. ;)

Oops, my chapstick is broken D: Help it wont twist back down!?

May I ask what brand of lip balm it is? I know you said "chapstick" but people often confuse the difference between chapstick and lip balm. Chapstick is a brandname while lip balm is the proper term.

The softest (fragile) lip balms that come to mind are SoftLips. I know that Burt's Bees has a strong stability.

If trying to push the product down while at the same time turning the dial isn't working, you might want to try removing everything from the tube, and into a small container. Such as a big metal spoon. You can try ***SLOWLY*** melting the lip balm in a big metal spoon over an oven fire. I say slowly because overheating or heating too rapidly can affect the performance of the lip balm. Turn your empty lip balm tube all the way down, or however down you think it needs to be and pour the melted lip balm back into the tube. Let it cool down at room temperature for about 20 minutes. For room temperature cool downs, I've heard its better to let it set for a few hours after it solidifies.
You can speed up the process by placing it in the fridge (while it is melted) as another alternative. Please note, that I've also heard some people say that rapidly cooling the product may affect it's ingredients.

P.S. I don't like SoftLips :x every slim tube I purchased, came broken. I dial the product up, it never goes down. I try to push it down, it smushes! It is way too soft. Some ChapStick lip balms do that too. It won't go down, but Chapstick usually doesn't get smushed unless its really hot. Same with Blistex and Carmex. Burt's Bees (having a beeswax base) should never get smushed.

P.S.S. Some lip balms, although in a tube, seriously do not deserve to be in a tube. I don't know what some companies are thinking when they put an extremely soft and mashed potato-like lip balm in a tube. These "butter" lip balms should be put in a jar. Only lip balms with strong stability should be placed in a tube, while buttery lip balms are in a jar, and semi-liquid lip balms are in a squeeze tube.

If you have a small container that can be closed (eye shadow container) that is empty and clean, you can pour the contents into that container. That way, if the lip balm really is too soft or you fear it may break again, you won't have to worry.
