Why My Windows 8.1 Boot Slowly Now

Why does Windows boot slowly after dual boot with Ubuntu?

Windows has a function called Fast Start that speeds up the boot process. However, this function causes issues with dual boot and should be disabled when dual booting.Other than that, I’d suggest to clean up your computer, reduce auto-starting entries and go through the usual misery involved with tinkering a Windows system.Enable/disable Fast Start in Windows 10

Why is my laptop with Windows 10 slow on reboot but fast on first boot?

When you shut down your system, Windows 10 doesn't actually shut down completely and it's in a kind of a deep sleep state. Thus when we power on, it wakes from that state and hence is boot time is very low. This is popularly called as “fast startup”. This concept emerged with the Windows 8 and many users prefer it because of the greatly enhanced boot time.On the other hand, when you restart your system, it closes all the processes and services and it’s completely shut down. It takes some time to load all the processes and services and hence, the boot time is longer during a restart.Note : This fast startup or hybrid startup can be manually toggled on/off. Also, fast startup must be turned off for the smooth functioning of dual boot.

My Windows 10 is running slow. How do I fix it?

Windows 10 is one of the most optimized OSs. It is known for it’s simplicity and smoothness. The reason that you are not able to run windows 10 smoothly may be because of your hardware. Upgrading your RAM, changing your CPU or upgrading your existing HDD with a faster SSD will bring noticeable changes. If that’s something that you do not wish to do, then here are a few tweaks that you can try out to improve your PCs performance. To improve booting speeds:Open Task Manager and go to the Startup tab. Disable all the applications that you think are useless.Search and open Power Options. Click on Choose what the power buttons do on the left side of the window. Click on Change settings that are currently unavailable and tick Turn on fast startup under the Shutdown Settings menu.To improve general performance:Go to Power Options and select the High Performance power plan.Search and open System. Click on Advanced System Settings on the left side of the window. Click on Settings (under Performance). Select Adjust for best performance.Download and Run CCleaner.Search and Open Notifications and Action Settings. Disable all notifications.Open Cortana Settings and disable everything.Search for %temp% in the Start Menu. Delete all files present in the folder that pops up.Defragment your drives regularly using Disk Defragmenter.Clean your drives using Disk Cleanup.Hope this helps!

Windows 8 wifi password is too long to put in textbox?

Depending upon the type of encryption your router is using then password lengths differ.

For WEP, the password can be 5 or 13 characters long.

For WPA and WPA2, the password can be 8 to 63 characters in length. WPA2 is the most secure, and the password should be as long and obscure as you can manage. I tend to go for WPA2 passwords of at least 25 characters including letters (upper and lower case), numbers, spaces and punctuation. For example the word 'password' might be 'pA55w0*D' to make it difficult to guess.

As for the Windows 8 problem, providing you are entering the password for the same encryption mode as the router, then Windows should accept it. I have not set up WiFi in Windows 7 or 8, but on XP, the password has to entered twice in two boxes. It appears in each box as a string of asterisks, hence the need to enter it twice to ensure it has been input correctly. The box does not hold all the characters that the password contains, but it works. I tend to open Notepad and type the password there, then copy and paste it into the boxes. It works although fewer asterisks are displayed than characters that appear in the actual password.

I cannot imagine that Windows 8 will not work in a similar way to earlier versions of Windows and not accept long passwords, even if they are not fully displayed.
