Why do so many filipinos insist on calling their nation "conservative"?
The Philippines is perceived as a conservative nation not because of the culture or how the people live per se. That term is reserved "for outsiders looking in" or the international arena. What they mean by being a conservative nation is that in a sense we are "perceived" as conservative by some of the laws, resolutions or lack of it, mainly owing to the Catholic Church who never stops meddling in the affairs of the country's governance. I won't go into those hypocritical issues related to those reasons, Filipinos know all that already. Some examples would be is that we have no divorce, and the Catholic church calls for abstinence & condones all forms of birth control. Don't mention same sex marriages or the death penalty, just that two on their own can give foreigners a sense that we are a "conservative" country. Unless "our" Catholic Church release their claws or their paws, we won't be called anything else I'm afraid.
Why do people hate America? ?
I understand your pain. I went to Dakar, Senegal in Africa this past Summer, and when I told alot of people that I was American, they accepted me because I was Muslim like them, but many of them told me that America is "No good." They do try to copy American culture. Many of them watch our channels and attempt to dress like us, but they believe what they see on the television and think that we are all rich, corrupt, immoral, and ill-behaved. One man told me everyone here owns a gun and we are constantly going to jail for killing one another. As Americans, we can be ignorant and have the tendency to enforce this "my way or the highway" lifesyle on other countries. We think that if people are not like us, then they must be living wrong. We are somewhat terroristic if you ask me. Why are we killing innocent people in the Middle East? Do you know what the Iraqi military uniform looks like? Neither do I because they aren't killing soldiers. They're killing actual citizens and innocent people! This is one reason why we are not liked. We also come across as spoiled. We have everything when most have nothing, and yet we complain. We're running out of gas while others are running out of food. you see what I mean? Jealousy is also a part of it, but only ignorant people would base it entirely on that. In Senegal, they were somewhat jealous because they would criticize our lifestyle and then try to mimic it. They were somewhat jealous that they cannot live like us and look like us due to lack of resources. So instead they call us "fat" and "ignorant." Some of the accusations are true, but not all Americans are bad people. I proved that to them during my vacation.

How can I tell if someone is jealous of me?
I had a colleague who was very jealous of me, at least that is what people told me when I complained of her behavior. Here is what I experienced:She would copy me. If I got a new piece of jewelry then she would get something very similar shortly afterward. If I traveled somewhere, she would go on a trip also to some place similar.She would be very nice to me to my face but them put me down behind my back. People would tell me about some of the things she said I was doing. Not of it was true.She was constantly complaining about others. No one was very competent in her opinion. I was one of them when my back was turned.We were friends outside the work place. But she would like to purposefully exclude me and tell me about where she went and what she did.She would never compliment me or ask about a trip.I always had the feeling that she was trying to “ put me in my place”.These things went on for quite a few years. I tolerated it because I worked with her and wanted to keep my work environment as peaceful as possible. She must have taken this as permission to keep doing it. Finally, the last straw came. I had golfed with her and a couple other ladies for about 8 years on Wednesday afternoons in the summer. She had recently been particularly difficult to work with and had alienated several other people with her negativity and complaining. She was going to schedule a tee time for the following week. I asked her to just let me know. She never told me and I found out that our group had gone without me. I finally confronted her about it and told the entire group that I would never do anything with them again. They were not “friends” if they were going to treat me like that. At work I had asked to be reassigned to a different area so I wouldn’t have to work with her again.After breaking it off with her I realized a few things… Her negativity had unconsciously rubbed off on me. I had to work on not criticizing and complaining about others. She really had been toxic. I developed better friendships with other, more positive people. I was so much happier!
