Why are people still crazy for BBM on Android?
Curiosity.In my case, having never really, for practical purpose, used BBM myself, wanted to see how this technology was implemented on Android as well as its "features".Honestly, I think now BBM on non BlackBerry platforms is too little, too late and the overall BBM 's "value proposition" has been superseded by many other alternatives such as WhatsApp, Google Hangouts, and, even Twitter and Facebook messages.BBM for Android, in my... well.. Android devices have been or will soon be deleted as it is just an unnecessary battery hungry app running in there.
Why didn't the BBM app get as famous on Android & IOS as it did on BlackBerry?
By the time Android and iOS versions of BBM were released, messengers like WhatsApp and Viber already had made their fair share of users and the "complexity" involved in adding new contacts to BBM, which is in fact the core security/privacy feature of it, was not welcomed by the masses who were used to the rather simple way of doing it in other messengers. On top of that, BBM brought nothing new to the party other than supporting multiple file types that can be shared with other users, to convince people to change over. Initial versions were buggy as hell too! By the time stable versions were made available, the ship had sailed.

Why are people downloading BBM for iPhone and Android when good messaging services like whatsapp exist and are being used extensively?
Because it allows you to message with people who own a BlackBerry? Most BlackBerry users got their phone for work, and therefore cannot install apps like WhatsApp - so to exchange messages with friends they either have to send SMS (expensive, and the company might object) or buy a private phone (also expensive).Now they can message with friends and colleagues from the same device, BBM is no longer a closed ecosystem and thus will attract more people (or so BlackBerry hopes).If it works, maybe Apple will finally get a clue and open iMessage and Facetime to the World.
