Why The Cat Suddenly Bit Me

Why is my cat suddenly biting me?

Perhaps another person moved into your apartment with a cat of their own. He could be feeling anxious about his territory. Or he knew you were leaving when he saw you packing for your vacation and that made him anxious. And his reaction to being anxious could be to start biting. Since he is an older cat he could be in pain from something. This pain might make him anxious or more aggressive and so cause the biting. Or he could overly excited by you leaving and coming back. Some cats when they get over stimulated will nip.
I assume that the bites aren't very hard and he lets go right away. If he is trying to take a chunk of flesh out of your hand he is then horribly stressed and could be horribly ill.

A tip is to gently encourage him not to bite. Don't yell or give a big reaction. Just gently push him away or stop him and otherwise ignore the behavior. Cats will continue a behavior if you give any strong reaction whether positive or negative. So ignoring it will teach him that there is no payoff to the behavior. You can also try playing with your cat with an interactive toy. A toy on the end of a string or stick is good so he can't bite your hands. Giving him a good solid 15 minutes of play time every day will drain his energy in a positive way and leave less energy for biting.
If the biting gets worse and doesn't improve, I would consider taking your cat to the vet for an exam. Otherwise it's probably because the vacation upset him.

Why do cats suddenly attack you?

My cat used to do that (now she's gone). . . we'd be playing and all of a sudden she'd take the attack pose and try to scratch me. . .I assume it's part of their nature, being hunters and all I think half way through playing they realize the true purpose of play, which is to build skills and then they attack you as they would a fellow cat.

Why did my cat suddenly bite me? She never has before, and it came out of nowhere.

Hello - I am the maker of this question, and I have some follow-ups on it to help with the situation. It was around 10 PM, and I was ‘laying’ on the couch, when my 7 year old cat came and layed on top of me. This is pretty normal, she usually sticks around me - all the time pretty much. We have a very good relationship. She is sterile, and last August she had 4 teeth removed. She has changed a bit since then, but only in her behavior - she has been staying inside the house a lot more.Anyway, she was laying on top of me, and I had my arms wrapped VERY loosely around her like I always have, when all of a sudden she turned around - like she has done before some times, where she just all of a sudden turns and licks her behind aggresively (this is only something she has done sitting next to me - of what I have seen.) But this time, she growled and turned at the same time, to then bite me. And not just love-bite or “that’s enough warning” bite. She full on bit me. She didn’t remove her teeth aswell. They stayed on my arm for quite some time - I had to remove my arm from her. She bit so hard blood was drawn - not a lot, but a tiny bit. But the thing is, she didn’t run away afterwards. She just went down from my stomach and layed herself beside me and went to sleep. It’s the fact she growled and bit so hard that concerns me. Especially because that made me think about her behaviour during the day. She had been running from wall to wall in my room, like she normally does when we play with her laser toy. But there was nothing for her to chase. She had just been running and making small sounds as if there was something. So what should I do about this? I have an appointment soon as a follow-up on the teeth, and I thought I should mention it to the vet. But that appointment is in 2 months, and I don’t know if it would be a better idea to contact the vet about it now?also, I have another cat if that helps, and my mom said they did have a hefty stand against eachother like an hour before the incident.

Why does my cat suddenly bite me and run away while I'm petting him?

Even though he's our family cat, he actually is my daughter's cat- you know how pets claim one person as theirs? He put the claim on her. Well she's always been his fav. person, and she played with him like he was a wild cat, when they were both young. Sometimes he has actually stalked her as she's climbed the stairs and jumps up and bites her leg. Now, she's 22 and he's 14 & still does this on rare occasions. It's really strange. I've never had a cat that behaves like he wants attention and then bites. If we try to play, sometimes he will, but other times he'll get mad and attack our hand, so we just leave him alone, then. I think she made him like a wild cat by playing that way when they were little.

Why has my female cat suddenly started to bite my hand and wrap herself around my arm?

She is just under a year old and is not fixed.. its really expensive for us right now.
anyway.. shes been going in and out of heat now for about 3 months.. (poor thing.. its so pathetic to listen to her scream in pain) she is normally a very playful kitty, and likes to randomly pounce on you..
your feet mostly when you walk.. but lately.. only when she is in heat she will mount my arm(holding on litterally.. i can lift my arm and she wont let go) and start to bite my hand and make weird chirping noises. and when i push her off she gets all like *raaawwwrrr* and then proceeds to do it again..
not sure if this is a sexual thing or a playing thing..

Why has my cat suddenly started to bite me? He used to do the "love bites" but now once or twice a day he'll bite my arms really hard and pull. He'll whine if I won't let him bite me. The vet said not to worry but I'm worried anyways.

Is he getting enough play exercise? Pent up energy can make a love-nipping cat bite harder.Get a fishing rod toy and laser pointer and give him a couple of good, hard play sessions a day, where he runs and jumps and tires himself out.Is he neutered? Male cats grab females in their teeth when mating, so if he's intact you may be getting those instincts redirected.

Why does my cat suddenly hate me? He bites and hisses at me whenever I pick him up. He is neutered. What can I do to make him like me again?

It is in my experience that when a cat behaves this way he has picked up on a “new scent” that has been close to you and he is showing his territoriality .He is letting you know he is not familiar with a scent you have somehow have acquired on yourself (maybe another animal you have been near) and your cat does not approve or you have been feeling unusually stressed out and your cat is picking up those emotions from you .From your question/ comment that is what I picked up from first ; although there is a specialist in case I am having trouble with a diagnosis that I turn to and he has not been wrong on anything I have questions about when it comes to cats .Jackson is very intelligent and believes in hands on experience .

Why does my cat suddenly bite me hard enough to draw blood with no cause?

I assume this is not a feral cat you have tamed. I assume this is a house cat that doesn't normally bite but has suddenly done so. I assume you have had that bite attended to. ASAP.What are you doing JUST before your cat has this “sudden” urge to perforate you? That is almost certainly the answer, if your cat is not feral. They don’t have much to communicate with. Vocal noises are acquired, not “natural” feline behavior, beyond hissing and mating noises. There are documentaries galore of cats in the wild, from barn cats to lions and tigers. Other than territorial announcements, cats are silent hunters. They make little noise. But they do use their mouths in many other ways. My cat Rufus carries things around and fetches. I didn't teach him; he demanded it of me. And when he gets overstimulated, he bites. When he gets wild and playful, he bites. He never breaks the skin, but he can emphasize his opinion quite painfully if he wants. Is your cat biting you or are you tearing your skin by removing your hand too quickly? This may sound dumb, but there are many times Rufus could have “made” me bleed if I had ripped my hand away from his moth while he was “"holding” me with his teeth. He had a grip on my hand, but no skin would be broken unless I moved. Is your cat maybe trying to grip your hand and you pull away? One of two things is happening. You have a cat with a serious problem or you have a cat trying unsuccessfully to communicate. I guess the latter, just because cats don't usually just suddenly start biting without a reason. I suspect somehow, you are overstimulating the cat.Watch when you pet your cat. Be aware of how you do it and for how long. Is your cat purring? If not, stop now. That's what we pros call a “clue” to your cat’s mind. Purring almost always means good stuff. It can be a self-comfort when in pain, or in fear, but usually it means “oh yeah!”But if you don't watch and listen, you can easily make your cat uncomfortable. Static sparks off fur in the winter or dry weather, for example. Or petting in the exact same way over and over. Ever had someone mindlessly stroke your skin? It gets annoying fast. Your cat agrees, and biting may be how it's telling you.I assume you are not deliberately provoking your cat in some way. If you are, you deserve to bleed for taking advantage of your pet. Do not think cats are harmless. If you push your animal too far, it will HAVE to hurt you to get away. Shame on those who would do that.
