How can we prevent Quora from turning into Yahoo! Answers?
With all due respect, I sometimes think they should be stricter.I feel sad when I read things, that in MY opinion contain underlying racism on the part of the questioner.Things like: Why does everyone think Australian aboriginals are ugly? There are hundreds of variations of this question and for some reason I get asked to answer these types of questions. Quite honestly it makes me feel like crying.Or the: Why does everyone think an average white girl is beautiful and a beautiful black girl ugly? (It sickens me to even write this).Don’t the writers of these questions notice how insulting they are? Are they trying to provoke the 0.01% of the population that are probably racist and hate everyone. Are they trying to prove that white people are racist without noticing how racist their own question is?And also, as a question, it is a flawed question, a sub-par question, and definitely an ignorant question because it’s based on an fictitious assumption that the questioner has just dreamed up in their head.I mean, is it a forgone conclusion that everyone thinks that an aboriginal is ugly?? NO, NO, NO, then why is that question allowed in a quality site such as Quora. It belongs on a hate site.I don’t think anyone would miss my existence on Quora if I left it, but whenever I read such ignorance I really feel like giving it up. It kinda ruins my day.
What are the Pros and Cons of Political Correctness?
We've always had political correctness. We don't tell women they look fat, or that men have small penises. We don't tell our hosts that their food tastes terrible even if it does, or tell a co-worker you hate that you hate them. Political correctness didn't always include treating non-whites and women like equals, because for the longest time it was just accepted that they weren't. Once we started doing that it gradually became less and less acceptable to perpetuate stereotypes based on notions of inferiority, until it finally became as unacceptable as any other form of bad manners. White conservatives, who are about 50 years behind the present at any given time, are upset with this, so in response they are decrying "political correctness" as a new thing spread by the mainstream media, when in fact it's just an evolution of politeness.
Do Australian's call a television a television?
I know that sounds simply ridiculous, but I read on this one website that they call a television an Idiot Box. I just wanted to make sure that this was correct...
Am I too stupid for college if I can't write essays?
When I was in grade school and beginning middle school I was seen as good at writing because we just made fake stories. When we started writing essays or personal stories I started becoming bad at writing. I never got a good grade and teachers would just tell me that I need to write deeper and think more they'd give me tips that worked for the other kids really well. I try really hard. I sit for hours on end in front of my prompts but never come up with anything. When I do though I always get really low grades. I got a 31 on my act but my GPA is a 3.3 due to my low English class and History (lots of essays) performance. I had mostly honors and Aps with this senior year being the first time I'm taking a regular English class. I guess I'm kind of good at math (sorry I I come off as a bit conceited :/) I'm in multivariate calculus and I got 4s on my application computer science and calculus be tests and I had an A in physics. I'm applying for colleges as a computer engineering major and they ask for all these essays I can't come up with answers to any of them. Does this mean I'm mentally handicapped or something? Should I give up on college? Is there anywhere for someone like me? I'm really lost and don't know what to do. My parents want me to go somewhere big like M.I.T but won't accept the fact that I'm almost guaranteed rejection. They even want my sister to write my essays for me but I don't want her too because it's not right.
