Actually, Charles Darwin never wanted to be a scientist. His life-long dream was to be a prima ballerina, but he wasn't adapted to such an environment (his toes wouldn't fit into those wooden torture chambers), so had to adapt from an unfavorable environment to a more favorable one, which in his case was science. This was evolutionarilly to his advantage, since he was able to father children and pass on his DNA to future generations (along with a couple of ratty stretched out tutus).

Full scale slave revolts were few and far between. However, in 1831, Nat Turner, an educated slave, led a revolt of nearly 100 slaves around Southampton County in Virginia. He believed that God gave him visions and told him to kill his enemies. Beginning on August 22nd, Turner and a band of several dozen slaves and free blacks that he had gathered began their rebellion, using knives, hatchets, hammers, and other improvised weapons to kill any white person in their way and freeing any slaves they found. However, the rampage was short lived, being broken up the following day with about 60 whites killed. The rebels were executed while hysteria led to the executions of up to another 200 blacks. Nat Turner himself was able to evade capture until November when he was hanged.Soon after the rebellion, what few rights held by slaves and free blacks were curtailed across the south. Among other things, education of blacks was prohibited and freedom of assembly and the right to bear arms were ended
