Why Was There War In Korea

Why aren't there any korean war video games?

Because it wasn't declared a "war" by the U.S. It was called a "police action", and it is widely considered to be the most forgotten war in U.S. history. My dad is a Korean vet, and he has told me it certainly fit his definition of a war. He was in a foxhole, bullets buzzing by his head, his buddies beside him in the foxhole getting their heads blown clear off Yeah, it fits my definition of a "war" too. If you are talking to a Korean War vet, and you call the war a police action, pardon my language but, be prepared to get your a$$ kicked by a 75 year old man. It was a tough war, mostly fought in below freezing temperatures. Just in the last 5 or 6 years, the U.S. FINALLY built a Korean War Memorial. Don't expect a flashy video game anytime soon. And out of respect for all the people like my dad, read up on the Korean War, and remember their sacrifices as equally as any other veteran of any other war.

Korean war?

i graduated from highschool last year and was talking to someone the other day.. and came to the conclusion.. we were never taught anything about the korean war?? what was it about?? how did it start?? and why wasnt i taught it?!

Was there a draft during the Korean War?

After WW-II the US ended the draft and did a huge reduction in force (RIF). My father served in WW-II and was stationed in Japan as part of the occupation force when he was rifted and sent home. When the conflict erupted in Korea he was immediately recalled to active duty and found himself serving in Korea for the entire conflict.

Besides recalling thousands of trained and seasoned troops back to active duty, the US also restarted the draft. Our forces at the start of the Korean War were an empty shell of what was once the mightiest military in the world. Without a draft we would have lost in Korea... badly.

Why was Korean war Ok, but Vietnam war wrong?

No, I don't think that is it.

Basically, the WW 2 generation (or their slightly younger little brothers) fought in Korea. Their kids fought in Vietnam.

The baby boomers were in general a spoiled, self centered lot. Many of their best and brightest young leaders spent their time justifying why the Vietnam war was wrong. A lot of that justification came down to them not wanting to sacrifice anything for the country.

Many of the critics you are hearing from on this issue came of age back then, or have been influenced by that thinking.

Korean War vs Vietnam War?

Korea is called the Forgotten War. You probably don't know about all the Korean War movies because you weren't around. There are many more good movies about Korea then Vietnam. There are only 4 or 5 accurate movies about Vietnam, We Were Soldiers, Bat , Hamburger Hill, The Fog of War (documentary), The Path to War (documentary), The Killing Fields. The rest are trash.

There are several good Koran War movies, Fire and Ice, Our Time in Hell, Pork Chop Hill, Men In War, The Bridges at Toko-Ri, and The Hunters.

The Vietnam War has the Wall as its memorial because that is what was selected. The Korean War has a memorial depicting 19 service members and a mural wall. The men who fought in Korea were too long in getting their memorials.

There are memorials to Korean war and to the veterans of the Vietnam war across the country. One which I am familiar with is a statue of Vietnam aviators in Enterprise, AL, near Ft. Rucker.

Personally, I think the Korean War was harder on the men who fought it. My uncle was a marine in Korea and I was a marine in Vietnam. I don't think we went through anything as bad as they did at the Chosin.
