Why were Africans used as slaves instead of Native Americans?

It was largely a matter of logistics and socio-political influences. A summarized list of these elements would be as follows: Lack of immunity to diseases; high mortality rates made Natives a poor investment as slaves (e.g. they died off in greater numbers) Military strength of tribal nations sufficient enough to be a threat to the young colonies; taking Native slaves could be risky and sometimes costly endeavor. The African slave market was more convenient and cost-effective, compared to warring with tribes and trying to enslave a people that would either die quickly in bondage, or could escape more readily. Suicide was vastly more common at the point of enslavement. This was a sort of macabre market force. Those African slaves that made it through the gauntlet - being captured by slave raiders, amassed in horrific staging areas, and then taken across the sea in slave ships, were less likely to kill themselves after they arrived in the Americas. Natives being captured in their homelands and enslaved would often kill themselves (just as Africans were more prone to commit suicide in Africa during the initial stages of their enslavement). This is precisely why the Indian slave trade that did exist from the late 1600 until the early 1700s, actually sent the majority of Native slaves to the Caribbean, ironically, often in exchange for African slaves. The same principle was at play though...when the Indians arrived in these locations where Blacks made up the majority of the population, they had nowhere to run and seek freedom.Page on nih.govAfrican slaves, once brought to the Americans, were presumed to have slave status by the nature of their racial identity. Thus, it was easier to maintain the perpetual slave status of Blacks. There were few places an escaped Black slave could run and hide out, and nowhere to effectively maintain this freedom for any length of time (Maroon communities in North America were always of a fleeting nature). Natives were being treated as sovereign nations during the colonial era, and their individual freedom was acknowledge by default. Racial views varied, and Europeans saw Native Americans in a slightly more positive light - even as they sought to dispossess them and destroy their cultures. This question is similar to:Why were Native Americans never or not widely enslaved in America despite being coloured?

From a secular point of view, why did Biblical Hebrews start to believe only in one god?

The question has been asked by many, over a long period. Today, this is the best we can do to answer it:Yahweh:Bronze Age originsThe Israelites originated as Bronze Age Canaanites, but Yahweh does not appear to have been a Canaanite god.[12][13][Notes 1] The head of the Canaanite pantheon was El, and one theory is that the name Yahweh is a shortened form of el dū yahwī ṣaba’ôt, "El who creates the hosts", meaning the heavenly army accompanying El as he marched beside the earthly armies of Israel.[14] But Yahweh's earliest possible occurrence is as a place-name, "land of Shasu of YHW", in an Egyptian inscription from the time of Amenhotep III (1402–1363 BCE),[15] the Shasu being nomads from Midian and Edom in northern Arabia.[16] In this case a plausible etymology for the name could be from the root HWY, which would yield the meaning "he blows", appropriate to a weather divinity.[17][18]There is considerable but not universal support for the view that the Egyptian inscriptions refer to Yahweh.[19]Many today see a connection with:Akhenateni. an Ancient Egyptian pharaoh of the 18th Dynasty who ruled for 17 years and died perhaps in 1336 BC or 1334 BC.ii. In Year 5 of his reign, Amenhotep IV took decisive steps to establish the Aten as the sole god of Egypt: the pharaoh "disbanded the priesthoods of all the other gods...and diverted the income from these [other] cults to support the Aten".One problem with that is how would later authors have known of all this? The pharaohs tried to hide Atenism.Jewish sacred texts begin to be composed with the release from captivity in Babylon in 538 BCE; how would these authors have known of the more ancient Canaanite and Egyptian gods (for the Aten, that’s 800 years)?Because the Jewish captives were in Babylon and then were released by Iranians (to where numerous of them then moved), we can see how they picked up local myths, to then turn them into their own.I like to be practical, to deal with what is possible; we don’t have a method for these Jewish authors to know of these ancient times, so this is a puzzle to me. I guess that somebody - perhaps in Egypt (or Babylon even) - knew of this early, Egyptian history and somehow communicated this, and then it became mythologised.Just maybe the transmission came from the Jewish troops stationed by Iran in Egypt:ELEPHANTINE - Encyclopaedia IranicaJewish Temples of Onias & Elephantine in EgyptJohn Bartram's answer to How were the Jews treated in Ancient Egypt?

Is Xi bringing China back to the Mao era?

In 1982, Deng Xiaoping one of the PRC’s most important leaders after Mao, stated “It doesn’t matter what colour that cat is as long as it catches mice”. After Mao died and Deng took power, he would open up China to the world and lay key foundations that would make it the global power that it is today. Deng put China on a path of economic and political pragmatism which has worked & China has never looked back since. However under Mao, the colour of the cat catching the mice mattered. It had to be red, Maoist, and revolutionary, regardless of whether it caught mice or not. In other words under Mao, China could only be led one way, the Mao way, regardless of whether the Mao way worked or not.Anyone looking at China’s economic policies and the way it conducts it’s business globally will know for sure that it is anything but Maoist or revolutionary. Infact it is simply state capitalism with fancy Marxist Leninist lingo slapped onto it by the CCP for show. Xi Jinping has carried on Deng Xiaoping’s economic and political pragmatism, which has resulted in state capitalism and infact expanded on it much more. Mao would’ve hated this and this is why during the Cultural Revolution he had Deng & Liu Shaoqi purged because of their pragmatic economic policies at the end of the disastrous Great Leap Forward & Famine. So no, Xi Jinping is NOT leading China back to the Mao era, his family (specifically his father) experienced first hand the terrors of the Mao era and I doubt he wants to take China back to that. Also China and Chinese people (at least most) have become addicted to capitalism and consumerism, something the Mao era didn’t encourage in the slightest. I doubt they want to go back to the Mao era either, 1+ billion angry people isn’t something the CCP wants. Sure, Xi Jinping has become increasingly powerful and is being praised by the CCP more (i.e. recently enshrining Xi Jinping Thought) in the Chinese constitution, however his power is nowhere near that which Mao had. In addition, this Xi Jinping Thought, which in my opinion is just State Capitalism under Xi Jinping, is nothing like Mao Zedong Thought.

When the Israeli did not mess them up while paying in cash.
After world war two.

Ever wonder why the late Yasser Arafat left behind a six billion dollars question on "What is an x-files" to knock their heads together in making a mess out there.
Without the young one being aware of it.

What is the relationship between history and geography?

Geography determines history; this much is the simple answer.Carrying this further, one example of how geography determines history is this: A city next to the ocean has access to better trade than a city without an ocean. Another example is how the vikings struggled to grow crops in the permafrost, so they were forced to go on raids.Napoleon, Hitler, and the Swiss all discovered that Russia is difficult to invade because the spring and summer bring liquid roads, deep mud, thawed rivers, and an overall logistics nightmare, while fall and winter freeze everything and will kill an unprepared army.China was given the chance to develop because it had a desert and mountains to the west as well as an ocean to the south and east. The north was basically unprotected; that’s why they have the Great Wall of China.Egypt developed around the Nile River because that was a place where farming was possible. The Viet Minh were able to use guerilla tactics against the United States because of the Ho Chin Min trail. The United States wasn’t allowed to bomb it, so instead we used Operation Popeye - Wikipedia to make it rain year round on the trail, as well as dropping soap pallets on the trail in order to soften it for the rain. Ultimately, it should have worked, but the Spring Offensive caught us off guard.America as a country has essentially been surrounded by water for most of its life. This has not only made it easy to trade with surrounding nations, but it has also made it difficult to invade. With the exception of the 1812 war, the USA has been almost immune to European invasion and has done a fine job of enforcing the Monroe Doctrine.Japan has been able to maintain it’s isolationist policy because it’s essentially an island. However, this same water that made it also immune to invasion, just like the USA, made its isolationism end when the Great White Fleet visited the Japanese.Though I didn’t exactly elaborate, I hope these examples helped you.
