Why were most women in the past denied education, power, a place in history, property and jobs and the vote?

It's simple - men do not want to share power. They want women to be subservient, including in the realm of sex. You can call it patriarchy, you can call it sexism, you can call it idiocy. All those terms are correct. What you can do is join with other feminists and help to change men - even when they resist.

Why do men hate feminism when it's them that caused it in the first place?

Because, deep down, they are terrified. If they can no longer be the dominant gender then they will have to rethink the entire concept of masculinity. The little boxes are no longer neat, the edges are blurring.

For the first time in history men now have to deal with women as equals and, if they want to have a long term partnership, they have to give up their automatic position as primary driver.

Who stays home to look after the kids? Who does the housework and the crappy jobs? Who has financial power?

At work, there are similar issues: women are being promoted alongside men. There is more competition for the plum roles and discrimination is no longer accepted. An equal footing means more competition and, when a woman wins, they need to rethink their approach to female authority.

We are beginning to question whether male approaches are the only viable approach to management, risk taking and strategy, more and more, society is recognising the value of feminine input.

Sexist behaviours (whether explicit or implicit) are no longer tolerated and, if extreme, are actively discouraged and even prosecuted. Some men feel persecuted.

The truth is, they see the power, automatic opportunity and kudos slipping from their hands and it scares the living crap out of them.
