If the question is “Is it possible to find a person’s location with a text message to their phone”, the answer is NO.I believe this comes from some confusion on the matter.In order for telecom operators to get the updated location of a cellular phone, they “ping” that phone (as correctly stated by David Fred ) and this ping is done by sending an SMS type 0, or silent SMS.On doing so, the target phone replies updating its position so that, if someone is able to intercept that update by using cell network core vulnerabilities, then that someone will be able to read that update and thus, know the exact position of the phone.What Eric Arthur said is only valid in the U.S., where cell phone numbers have a sort of “area” code. It is not valid elsewhere.What Edward Anderson said is correct and, more generally, refers to any app that has to be already installed on the target phone and can react to a text message by providing its location. There are plenty of those apps and you can find them in each app store, depending on the phone brand.But, I assume, the question relates more to the possibility to track a phone without the owner being aware of being tracked and, of course, the answer is yes (not just with a silent text message but with a silent text message and some access to the SS7 core network).Last but not least, as Kian Bayno wrote, about 50% of attack vectors are delivered through SMS. YES. Some school wifi blocks certain texting app. One of them is TextFree. You may get 0 connections or only part of the text will be sent. How do i know? Cuz i downloaded that stupid app and it didn't work well. Get GoogleVoice. It works sooo much better than TextFree. All you have to do it make a Google Mail account. Then you go to GoogleVoice (search it on google) and log in with your email. You can choose a LOCAL Number (the number for your neighborhood). One problem is that it wants an actual phone number to confirm. U can use the house phone or a friend's number. And bam. go to AppStore in itouch, download GoogleVoice. Sign in. Then you can text. it Might be a little hard at first to get used to how u use googlevoice, but it is sooooo much better. and it recieves/sends/update texts WAY FASTER than textfree.
Will it cost money if I text a friend who is in Greece when I am in Ireland?
Hello!!!! I am going to Ireland this summer and live in New York and my friend is going to Greece around the same time. So, I was wondering if I text her from my Verizon phone to her AT&T phone if it will cost money? I don't know if it would still be international because we are both in Europe???? Like I know it would cost money if I was in New York and texted her while she was in Greece. But do the same rules apply for if I am in Ireland and she is in Greece. THANKS!!!!!!! :)

Textfree Calling Not working?

Can a pinger number be traced back to the real phone number or the email linked to the account?
So as immature as it is me and my friend decided to catfish this guy we started talking to him on a dating website and used some random girls pictures on the profile but with a fake name and fake info. We used a textfree app pinger to text him. Finally he reversed the images and figured we were fake and starts flipping out saying he knows who I am and has all my info and that he is a cop and he is going to go to local news about me and also go to the cops and get me arrested for impersonating someone apparently. I do not know if he is just messing with me because he is mad or could he have tracked down who I really am through my pinger number somehow or the email that is linked to the pinger account? Is there any way for this man to know who I am. Me ans my friend were wrong but honestly there was no financial benefits or harassing going on we just stood him up thats all and he went into a fit.
