Why Would A College Or University Deny Admission Because Of Ones Race

During the past top schools and even smaller schools made a habit of picking white students over colored students purely because of their race. Race was made part of the public admissions and quotas were set to level this playing field to force schools to admit students of color who reach their admissions requirements. If we take away race from the admissions process we might be taking multiple steps back from the advancements in civil rights. Those who are wealthy (often white) are well known for getting their children into universities based on legacy and donations made to the institution.

College Admission denied because of MySpace content?

Never heard of it, but it wouldn't surprise me. Work places do it, so I can see college admissions boards doing it as well.

After all, the people who run colleges don't like being known as a party school or the hangout of immature brats. Particularly the more prestigious ones. Not every school can afford to interview every applicant they get, so a quick myspace or yahoo search of the name is a cheap and effective way to see if a kid has any skeletons that he's choosing to show to the world.

If you want to brag about that stuff, fine. Just don't expect everyone to agree with it.

Why are college admissions so unfair? What is fair vs. unfair is usually just subjective. That is, what is fair for me might not be fair for you. Or as a friend put it once, using a baseball metaphor, “Everyone has different foul lines.”That said, in the US, there is a place for just about everyone in college. There are a handful of prestigious colleges that admit just a handful of students, but compare that number to the 4,000 other colleges, and you soon realize there are many colleges that will be an excellent fit for you.The worst thing about the whole college admissions process is that some students (and their families) get obsessed with brands, have a “dream school,” and “fall in love” with this or that college. This sort of attitude is really damaging, and people need to put that crazy consumerist emotional stuff behind them.

College admissions?

I am currently a community college student in California, however with the way my schools schedules it's classes and the fact that often times only one section of certain courses will be written into the schedules I don't see myself graduating from there within even the next year. So, I've been looking at different 4yr. schools which offer what I want to major in. So far the ones I really like are Adelphia, NYU and The American University of Paris. I'll be majoring in French with a possible minor in either music, or politics. I took the SAT way back in '04, and plan to retake it and take the ACT.
My GPA is about a 2.5-3.0...I was in Student gov. for a semester and SIFE for two...and, yes I have taken French courses.(since I was 12.)

My question is, what would I need to get into all three of those schools? My top choice being AUP.

Please, only o have gone through the admissions proccess to at least one of those three schools.
And please no chatspeak.
Ex: "U R gr8."

College admission question?

Colleges will receive a copy of your high school transcript when you apply so they will usually see the cumulative (as it is the cumulative that is on your transcript). Ask your school registrar for a copy of your transcript and see whether it's cumulative or not. You can also ask if the college that you plan on attending looks at a cumulative or a separate GPA. Also, you should strive for those high GPA since a high GPA applicant is more likely to be picked than a low GPA applicant. As for the admission essay, that plays a very important role whether you're applying to a large state university or a small liberal arts college as the essay is really the thing that separates you from the rest of the pack. Hope this helps.

Can I be denied admissions to Furman University if my GPA falls a little bit?

i ought to point taking your gen eds first, yet confirm they are going to flow. I had some difficulty shifting some summer practise at a community college lower back to my college. pay attention for instructions which have some parts (i.e. calculus a million, 2, 3; physics a million, 2; gen chemistry a million, 2). i ought to both take the set of educating at CC or IU, do precisely no longer chop up them up. it genuinely relies upon on even if when you're prepared to pay the more advantageous $$. And it relies upon on even if in case you imagine of you should get a particular attending to comprehend journey from one or the various. Oh and ask the school about getting conventional into this device after one 3 hundred and sixty 5 days at IU, that is an exquisite popular difficulty to take position.

A question about college admissions...?

For Stanford and U.Chicago, you would need a crystal ball. Schools are so competitive that they are regularly turning away students with similar stats. (And you don't say what her SAT scores are.) Schools are looking for a combination of everything: great scores and grades, glowing recommendations, a high level of participation in a few different extra-curriculars, and fabulous essays that show what a glowing person the applicant is. And with so few spots, a person can have all of these things and still not get into the top schools. Berkeley is also extremely hard to get into out-of-state. And it doesn't matter if she takes 50 APs--they want to see that you've done well on the tests as well.

Notre Dame might be easier. But with so many people vying for so few spots, everything is up in the air for the next few years. The best advice for your cousin? Reach for the stars, but choose several colleges--ones that she has a small chance of getting into (Berkeley, Stanford, U.Chicago), ones she has a decent chance of getting into (Notre Dame), and ones she is pretty much guaranteed admission to.

Could College discriminate and even deny you admission for my radical political belief?

I am currently a rising senior at a high school. I am planning to attend colleges and universities after high school. I know that most college checked social media (facebook's profile) to determine whether a person could be accepted or denied into a university. I do not swear, cuss, post any bad picture, and post negative comments. Due to my creatively giftedness, at an early age, I had become interest in politics. However, I had an extremely radical political belief which I post on my Facebook. I am a libertarian socialist and bash authoritarianism, power, and hierarchy. Would colleges discriminate or even deny me for my radical political belief? I'm not curtain...and I think that they would not discriminate me through it, but I am not 100% certain.
P.S. I also identify myself as an "independent" with description of "libertarian socialism" on Facebook

It’s unclear what’s being asked, but in many cases, questions like this are (often intentionally) missing the point. In many cases, gender and race are considered because societal bias would otherwise consider them inferior candidates. We know this, because we have a long history to look at, where brilliant people have been denied the educations (and jobs, and homes, and many other things) they deserved because of bias. The reality is that the college isn’t actually using race and gender as admissions criteria, but using rules to prevent using race and gender as admissions criteria, benefitting the already-dominant group (white men, in most of the West) at the expense of people who have been systemically hindered from success for too long.
