Why Would Anybody Want To Shoot A Bear Or A Wolf Or An Elephant Or A Lion

Can you kill a full-grown grizzly bear with a shotgun?

If anything bleeds enough, then anything can die. Fred Bear killed a Grizzely with a recurve bow and a broad head arrow! This was bordering on insanity in my humble opinion. At least he was backed up by two other men sporting .416 Rigbys. BUT, is it advisable to use small caliber weapons or a bow? Heck no! That is a good way to die a horrible death! I saw a grizzely get shot right through the heart with a .300 Winchester magnum (that's a big gun for those of you that don't know guns) and it ran full speed 100 yards Before expiring. Had it run our way it could have easily killed us since we were only 55 yyards away from it When it was shot. The shotgun with slugs is ones of the best guns one can use for protection from an attacking bear. The slow moving heavy lead slug has good penetration and is not so prone to ricochet. One rarely should aim for a bear’s head as it’s skull shape is prone to a to ricochet. If one chooses to defend themselves from a bear with a handgun then it should be a .44 magnum (or preferably larger) with a hard cast bullet (No hollow points because bears can take shock without much problem. ) One should shoot to break the bear down and then attempt to kill it such as shooting for the shoulder and then through the heart/lung area. There was a bird hunter that was attacked by a grizzly bear here in Montana a few years back, and all he had was birdshot in his shotgun. He had no chance to break the bear down. He shot the bear as it was charging in the face and blinded it and continuously kept shooting at close range with his shotgun at its neck until it was dead. It Took many shots for the spare to finally die. This man was lucky and wise for he knew the bird shot pellets had very limited penetration. He was also an experienced birdhunter because he continuously kept reloading at a very high rate of speed. I suppose when one has an enraged grizzly bear at close quarters in front of them it is a huge motivation to keep reloading at a high rate of speed!

What caliber can kill an elephant?

Can kill versus can reliably and humanely kill an elephant with reduced chances of it not succumbing right away and initiating a charge. Two huge differences. Almost any caliber can kill any animal i.e. a 22LR pipsqueak can stop a brown bear if shot in the right place via luck. But reliable and often used calibers by professional hunters in Africa against the African dangerous game big 5 (elephant, rhino, lion, leopard, cape buffalo… and hippo in this category too) are what you should be thinking of using. For elephants they need to be solid bullets that don’t expand quickly and usually have a jacket i.e. FMJ. Have high cross sectional density, high velocity (2000 fps is a threshold that you see among all elephant cartridges), lot of bullet weight and generally a large enough rifle caliber to cause massive tissue damage. 375 H&H is the most often used and well known of dangerous game rifle calibers and should be a STARTING POINT for elephant hunting. Other well known calibers include 375 Ruger, 416 rigby, 416 ruger, 404 jeffery, 458 win mag, 458 Lott, 450/470/500/577/600/700 nitro express, weatherby magnum cals (375, 460, several more), 505 gibbs, 500 jeffery. A few others I forget.I’ve shot 375 H&H, 458 win mag and 460 weatherby mag before. The 460 weatherby magnum will probably penetrate an older tank armor as it is almost up there with anti tank heavy deployed rifles in energies. I’ve seen hardened AR500 steel plates (hardened for target shooting) 5/8′’ thick penetrated straight through by a 460. It’s probably one of the few rifle calibers that can be put into a 10–12 lb hunting rifle that can be an anti tank rifle and doesn’t require head shots against an elephant to be truly effective. A broadside shot will probably do fine.ps. I do not support killing elephants, they are endangered and they have the emotional and intellectual capacity like that of humans, they can remember you 50 yrs later, truly mourn their dead and even paint their own image. Killing an elephant is probably like killing a human being.

How did noah fit 17.4 million animals on the ark?

I worked in logisitics (scheduling and transport) so I'm going to look at this from that point of view.

SUPPOSE there were 16,000 animals on the ark.
SUPPOSE you could care for each "pair" as easily as one...in other words, the male and female of the species would share food and drink. This is NOT always the case, but let's just say it is.

SUPPOSE you had to feed and water the animals twice a day. This is normal for domestic animals, or animals in stressful situations (as in a confined space on a rocking boat).

SUPPOSE it took one minute to locate, transport and deliver the food, and do some routine cleanup during each feeding, and move on to the next animal. Anyone who has ever owned an indoor cat knows that it takes a lot longer than a single minute to do this, but let's just suppose this is what it takes.

For 8,000 pairs of animals, that would mean 16,000 minutes, or 266.66 hours per day.

SUPPOSE there were 8 people on the ark, Noah, his three sons, and their wives.

SUPPOSE they each slept 6 hours a day, and otherwise devoted an hour a day to themselves in terms of feeding and bathing themselves, preparing food and eating it, washing their clothes, sex, waste elimination, staff meetings, planning, and etc. That would leave 17 hours a day for taking care of the animals.

8 people times 17 hours a day adds up to 136 hours a day ... which is 130 hours short of what is needed, minimally, EVERY DAY!

And we're not even factoring in this too: Maintenance. 16,000 animals in cages or rooms or whatever will require a lot of routine maintenance. A staff would be working on it hours a day, as any zoo will tell you. Furthermore, the ark itself, would require a whole crew of people working on it non-stop to keep it afloat. Anyone who has owned a boat can tell you that. Some of the responders seem to think that having a bigger ark someone makes the whole story seem more feasible, when in fact having a bigger ark -- which requires just that much more maintenance -- makes the story even more implausible.

Do hunters feel remorse after killing animals? Not trying to condemn anyone simply curious?

No. I don't feel remorse after eating a steak or fried chicken either, or eggs, or bacon, or fish, etc. Get the picture?

Do you?

Can a 9mm bullet kill a lion?

Not likely, but possible. But not quickly enough to save your life.A few years ago, a Texas dentist shot a lion with a .375 H&H magnum - not .357 magnum pistol, but a powerful .375 rifle. The legal minimum for elephant. The lion sprinted over the 70 meters between them and bit down on the rifle. The wood stock broke in half, the scope was crushed and the steel rifle action was bent like an elbow. The man’s arm, holding the forestock, was almost severed. At that point, the guide fired both barrels of a nitro express big game rifle into the cat’s heart and lungs. The lion was still able to claw off a good chunk of the dentist’s face before it expired.

What animals can kill a lion in one to one confrontation?

Few animals can face a lion in a one on one confrontation. First ones that come to mind are animals that are big and willing to face a lion. An elephant is large enough and strong enough to face a lion alone. In fact it takes a whole pride of lions to bring down an elephant and even then there’s a low chance of success. Elephants are also known to sling logs or trees at what they think is a threat… I shouldn’t have to explain further.A giraffe can take a single lion and they have been known to kill lions by swinging their heads like a golf club with the lion being the golf ball. This attack does a tremendous amount of damage and if done right, it can shatter important bones in a lions body. They also have long powerful legs which could deliver deadly kicks.A hippo and a rhinoceros. I put these in the same paragraph because both are fairly aggressive and are not afraid to take on one lion or a few for that matter. They are both strong and pretty fast for such large mammals. The rhino of course has that horn which I shouldn't have to explain the damage that can do if a rhino charges (this can be up to 40 mph). The hippo has humongous teeth and has the bite force to crush small boats and crocodiles for that matter.A crocodile could take a lion but only if the lion goes into the water. Out of water the crocodile is dinner because the lion is too fast. Some land predators that could take a lion would include a tiger, a grizzley bear (full grown), and a polar bear. Bears are slightly slower but they make up for it with all the excess fat and fur they have. They are like tanks. One grizzley bear will fight off a pack of wolves for a carcass. The reason why? That fur and fat helps protect them against the strong jaws of the wolves. Since a polar bear is much larger and has little competition for food, it most probably won’t be afraid to fight the lion. After all some polar bears have been known to pull beluga whales out of the ocean when they are trapped under ice and need to come up for air. That’s brute strength at its best. A tiger is naturally bigger than a lion and is used to fighting on its own. Therefore, I imagine it would be much tougher and much more willing to kill the other big cat.In conclusion, a lot of animals that are bigger and bolder are most likely to fight a lion one on one and win.

Which animal can beat a grizzly bear in a 1 on 1 fight?

There are animals much larger than bear that could kill it without much difficulty.A rhino. The largest bear is on average still much smaller than a rhino. A rhino’s horn can pierce the metal on a car door, much tougher than the flesh on a bear. A bear hitting a rhino with its claws wouldn’t do enough damage to spot it hit, if it does any real harm at all, and its powerful jaws will only do anything if bites around the neck, which it’s not going to since if goes anywhere near the front of the rhino it will get gored or trampled.A hippopotamus. Much like a bear it is absolutely cute until it shows its teeth. Slightly larger than a rhino, it has a stronger bite than a bear that will drive its tusks right into bear’s skeleton and crush it. Like the rhino it is too big for the bear have a reasonable chance of killing. An elephant. This should go without saying. The elephant is more than ten times the size of a bear. They have been known to destroy cars and have been reported killing rhinos. If a bear were pit against an elephant all it could do is run, fighting back would be like attacking a trying to attack a tree.A Nile or Saltwater crocodile. They are larger than a bear and have the strongest jaws in the world. They kill prey larger than the a bear so if they did bite down it they would tear it pieces.Edit:Updated to include something that has actually been known to kill grizzly bears, the American bison. I refer to Who would win a fight between a bull bison and a male grizzly? for Joshua James’s answer, but the long and the short of is, bison are much larger than grizzly bears. Grizzlies have preyed on bison, but mostly calves. Attacks on adults typically end with the bear getting chased away or beaten to death.
