Why Would My Car Be Having Slow Accerlation When I Hit The Gas And Engine Light On

Slow acceleration...Whats wrong with my car?

I have a VW passat 2003. It just started taking a long time to accelerate. Its really slow when i try to press on the gas and it kinda gets loud. I practically have to press on the gas all the way down before it takes off. But when I get normal speed everything is okay. I dont have a check engine light on or anything so I'm not too sure whats wrong with it. Tried to take it to Auto zone for a free diagnostic, but they wont look at it without a light on. Does anyone know whats wrong with it?

Poor idle/ acceleration after washing car's engine, what could be wrong?

First of all if you are going to wash your engine you should leave it running while you are washing it. It sounds like its too late for that though. You most likely have gotten water on an electrical component of some type. If it is dieing after you get it started it could be your distributor cap, plug wires, plugs or any other electrical part. If it runs and looses power when accelerating though it is most likely a bad belt or you could have damaged the alternator. You could have gotten water in the fuel system also. To check the alternator, turn it on and have it parked where you can see the headlights shine. Then start turning on accessories and see if the lights dim. If they dim - it's either the alternator or belt. Check your local auto parts store to see if they run electrical diagnostics on car power systems. Most will do this for free now so they can sell you something. The test can tell you if it is your battery, alternator or something else. You have to be able to start the car and turn it off and restart it to use this test. Also a damp air filter can bog down a car, check to see if it got wet.

Check engine light flashing slow acceleration help please!!!!!?

Okay so I have a 96 corolla yesterday it was raining really bad and when I went to crank my car it started like jolting. I put it in reverse and again it jolted really bad well then I went to leave and the acceleration was very slow. I went to work and the guys from work told me to check the transmission fuel.

I did and it was low so I put some in and it seemed to fix it. It drove fine all day However today it started raining again while I was in the store and when I went out I cranked it up and again it was jolting and slow acceleration. When I left work it was fine I stopped again and started it up and agin it was jolting.

Except this time it was really really slow and the engine while in park was very Loud and a weird sound. My check engine light began blinking it has never done that before! I got home only went 30 mph and something smelt really hot.

What could this be?! Is there a way I can check for whatever it is by myself I am just a senior in high school who works a minimum wage job and barely makes enough to pay this sucker off so I really don't want to spend a whole bunch of money any help?!

2006 chevy impala ls-engine hesitates during acceleration,NO check engine light. What could be the problem?

Rockele, change the fuel filter 1st then if you have never done so change the gas cap. both are important for the fuel system presure and emissions. I suspect the fuel filter is the issue though due to no lamp code. its a common problem and with the poor fuel quality many stations actually have its a wonder were not all parked on the road sides. this filter should be changed every 6 months minimally. you may even add a bottle of chevron techron fuel treatment to clean up the system. unfortunately there is another possability after these and that the electric fuel pump in the gas tank. chevys are notorious for this. if the car has cranked a long time before starting up this is most often the problem.

What causes slow car acceleration?

2001 Nissan Altima GXE was fine until check engine light came on. DTC said MAF malfunction. Replace MAF and check engine light off. But car now still slow at accelerating and has poor engine power. Feels like the car is towing an extra load even when cruisng with foot off the pedal. Brakes are fine. Replaced plugs, air and fuel filter, distributor cap/rotor and wires. Car does not sputter. Just overall sluggishness at any speed and RPM. Thanks for any help.

Integra drinking gas and acceleration slow?

I'd have somebody run the codes for your car, see why exactly the check engine light is on.
My guess would be a bad o2 sensor. The o2 sensor is what tells your car how much gas, and air, is needed to keep your car running at 100% efficiency. with the new exhaust system depending on how much was installed, and how close to the o2 sensor the exhaust was welded, the o2 sensor(s) may have been affected. Depending on where you live some car part stores will hook your car up to the computer and check your codes for free, just as long as you buy your parts from them. Other wise taking your car to a shop and having them run the codes can cost you $40 or even a lot more.
The catalytic converter if it goes bad, 9 times out of 10 the car will be extremely under powered and will often dye on you due to the lack of exhaust being allowed through the system. But it will not cause the car to run rich. Running rich on a computer controlled car is normally an o2 sensor, and occasionally a m.a.f. sensor.

My car sputters, acceleration is slow and it has a strong gas smell. what is wrong?

the smell of gas is dif than a rich condition smell, yes a leak is apparent, may have snagged a line under the car on rough road or if you ran some thing over, if smell is from engine compartment, its a fuel feed or return line, or leaking pressure regulator, i have replaced many regulators for leaking, the reason it sputters is it does not have the proper amount of fuel lean condition from air being introduced into fuel system, if its a defective part its covered by warranty but if you ran over something to cause damage it will cost you for repair

What would cause my car to accelerate slowly when I press down on the gas?

Assuming that’s the only abnormal symptom and that the symptom appeared suddenly instead of gradually dropping acceleration over a long time, and assuming that there are no other obvious problems like oil leaks or unusual smoke from the exhaust, it’s most likely your engine not operating properly.Keep in mind the 3 things your engine needs in each of the cylinders to work:airfuelsparkSo, I would troubleshoot in this order (easiest/cheapest fix first).check air intake and make sure there are no obstructions. While you’re there check that your air filter is clean.Check your engine, transmission and differential oil levels. Top them up if necessary. Change them if they’re dirty or due for a change.Check all fuses.Check that fuel filter is clean.Check that spark plugs are working. (there are tutorials on the web on how to do this). if there’s a fault, it could be the plugs, cables, dirty distributor, faulty ignition coil.Check fuel pumps are working and the in-tank fuel filters are clean.Check fuel injectors are working.Check throttle body is clean, unobstructed and the butterfly flap is moving smoothly and freely.**NOTE** In the past, whenever I’ve encountered this problem it’s always been a faulty spark plug. one cylinder was not firing and hence the loss of power. If it’s not any of the above, and you have an EFI engine, it could be the maf sensor or the engine management computer or software. These can be much more expensive to fix and need specialist tools.

What causes a vehicle to hesitate on acceleration after stopping at a stop sign?

hesitation can occur when your engine is starved for something it needs. When stopped fully, accelerating to pull away uses more power than cruising or just driving at constant speeds. Your car will need more power which it gets from air, fuel, and properly timed and delivered spark, the combustion trio. It could be getting just enough to run OK at cruising but not enough when under hard acceleration. At higher than normal demands, any of these can be reduced by the following:dirty or corroded or worn out spark plugs, bad spark plug cables or improper engine computer timingplugged fuel filters or dirty or plugged fuel injectorsdirty air filter, dirty throttle body (see throttle tip hesitation)Bad sensors for air flow, fuel flow or exhaust or engine timing or position.
