Are the Sherlock Holmes books good and worth reading?

Depends on what type of book you like. The Sherlock Holmes novels were written a very long time ago. The language is advanced and difficult- you’ll learn loads of new, archaic words. This does make them a little hard to read if you’re not used to that kind of thing. If you devour classical literature, you’ll love the Sherlock Holmes stories. If you can’t sit through a book written before the 1960s, you’ll hate them.Once we’re past the language, the four novels and fifty-six short stories are all well-written and exciting to read. My personal favourite plot-lines are The Valley of Fear, The Final Problem, The Adventure of the Engineer’s Thumb and The Adventure of the Red-Headed League. The characters are phenomenal. Holmes himself is always a joy to read: brusque, intelligent, polite, sarcastic, and a bit of a show-off. Watson narrates the stories and is an excellent character in his own right; but offsets Holmes perfectly: emotion to his intelligence, heart to his cold. Good character stories include The Dying Detective, The Adventure of the Empty House, and The Adventure of The Devil’s Foot.Another thing to bear in mind is that Book Sherlock is not, in my experience, like TV Sherlock (excluding Jeremy Brett). If you hope to read about the adventures of sassy, sarcastic Sherlock with John, Molly, and Lestrade, you’ll be disappointed. All in all, the Sherlock Holmes books are well-written, interesting stories with great characters and some brilliantly outlandish mysteries, your enjoyment of which may be slightly hampered by the difficult language. They’re worth a try, at least. Who knows, you may love them.

Do you have to read the first book of the hardy boys to understand the rest?

The Hardy Boys books aren't a series, really. They are all entirely different stories, and the numbers just denote what order they were written in (unless you find that a particular mystery is broken into Part 1 and Part 2). The only thing you might run across is that the boys might make mention of an old mystery and compare the way they've solved them both.

What is The Best Matthew Reilly Book To Read ?

I'd suggest starting with 'Ice Station'. Very fast-paced, and if it turns out that you like it, a few of his other books follow on from that one. It's always good to start at the beginning of a series.

If you really love science fiction, though, you'll probably prefer 'Contest'. Humans and aliens in a gladiator-style competition.
